Oklahoma State (2 ½) 72 Saint Joseph’s 69
Using all games this season for both teams would yield a fair line of pick in this game, but St. Joe’s upped their rating by blowing out bad teams by more than expected and didn’t play as well against better teams. My tournament ratings, which are based on games against decent teams or better, favor Oklahoma State by 3 points and there is no reason for me to deviate from that prediction. St. Joe’s is a very good team on both ends of the floor, but Oklahoma State is the nation’s best shooting team (52% FG) and knocking down 49% of their shots against Pittsburgh is incredible. St. Joseph’s will need to have another good shooting game from beyond the 3-point arc if they are going to win this game, but chances are that it won’t be quite good enough to beat the Cowboys. In case you’re wondering, #1 seeds that are underdogs to lower seeded teams are just 1-4 ATS in the NCAA Tournament the last 14 years.
Alabama (+8 ½) 68 Connecticut 76
I’ve been right on every one of Alabama’s 3 tournament games so far, but this one is a bit trickier. The Crimson Tide are still underrated, as my ratings favor Connecticut by only 5 points and the Huskies have played just 5 ½ points better than Bama in 3 tournament games, but Alabama qualifies in a negative 1-19 ATS NCAA Tournament situation. Connecticut, however, qualifies in a negative 5-17-2 ATS round 4 situation, as lower seeded teams tend to have their way in this round. The situation against Alabama is clearly stronger than the one against U Conn, but I can only favor Connecticut by 7 ½ points after adding in the value of the situations. So, I’ll still lean a bit with the underrated Crimson Tide.
