I will play any inhouse capper before I play any capper from this thread.

VANDERBILT +9 - While Connecticut is playing some of the best ball in the country, this line seems grossly inflated to me given the quality of this Commodores team. Vanderbilt is now 23-9 S/U on the year, winning their games by an average of 9.0 points. One knock against them over the years is that they have been a poor road team, but the are starting to change that image as they are now 6-2 S/U in their last 8 games away from home. They showed some grit in their near-miraculous comeback win over a good North Carolina State team on Sunday, and they have the perimeter shooters to shoot over this tough Huskies defense. In fact, Vandy may be the best outside shooting them that Connecticut has seen all season. Yes, the Huskies won the Big East Tournament and have looked impressive in the first two rounds of this tournament. However, none of the teams they have faced during this run was capable of hitting their outside shots, and we feel that Freije & Co. will draw the Connecticut defense out a bit in this game, taking them somewhat out of their element.

Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Sweet Sixteen's East Rutherford bracket gets underway, with the number-three seed, Pittsburgh Panthers battling the second-seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Continental Airlines Arena at New Jersey. The Panthers are making their third straight Sweet Sixteen appearance and come into this contest as the nations winningest team, with a 31-4 mark. They have won six of their last seven outings, including tournament wins over Florida and Wisconsin. The Cowboys are looking for their 30th win of the year. They come into the game, winners in 19 of their last 21 games. The Cowboys advanced to the semifinal round, with wins over Eastern Washington and Memphis. The Panthers lead the all-time series 3-2, but the teams haven't met, since the Cowboys won a preseason NIT tilt 74-63 in 1991.

There isn't much the Cowboys are lacking. Eddie Sutton has the making of a champion, but they'll face a club with the same makeup. The Cowboys guard play has been as good as any in the land. Co-Big Twelve Players of the Year, Tony Allen and John Lucas are tough to stop, even for the defensive minded Panthers. Allen paces the club with 16.0 points per game, while averaging 50-percent from the floor. Lucas has the better range. A three-point threat, Lucas is averaging 15.3 points per game. He does a fine job handling the ball as well. Daniel Bobik is another long range shooter, that can feed off double teams against Allen and Lucas. The frontline is without a true center, but Ivan McFarlin and Joey Graham are both big guys, who don't mind physical play. Both are averaging just over 12 points per contest. They will be up against their toughest test all season and could be the difference in this game. The Cowboys average 78.3 points per game and allow just 62.8. They have held four of their last six opponents under 60 points.

Defense, defense and more defense is what makes the Panthers go. They are holding the opposition to a mere 56.2 points per game. The last time an opponent scored more than 61 points against the Panthers was on February, 15th when Connecticut put up 68 points. That's a span of 10 games. Offensively, all five Panthers starters are averaging double figures, but it's still not always easy for the Panthers to score. They have made some crucial shots during the tournament, but still are averaging just 56.0 points per game through the first two games. Guard Carl Krauser paces the team, with 15.6 points per game. Julius Page starts with Krauser, but has been off the mark of late. Page will continue to shoot, while still being a force on the defensive end. The frontline has been strong and has an advantage over the Cowboys thin interior. Center Chris Taft could see the ball on a regular basis, especially early on to establish the inside game. Jaron Brown is a solid scorer from the wing and underneath, while Chevon Troutman can score around the basket. All three crash the boards. The Panthers outrebound the competition by an average of 5.5 rebounds per contest.

The Cowboys are a two point favorite in this game. They are 14-10 ATS when playing the favorite role this year. Overall, the Cowboys are 15-12 ATS. The Panthers are 16-11 ATS. They are 4-0 ATS as an underdog. The last four Panthers games have gone under the Vegas total.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Syracuse Orangemen

The defending National Champion, Syracuse Orangemen continue to defend their crown and have moved to the Sweet Sixteen, earning a date with the Alabama Crimson Tide, which are back into the round of sixteen for the first time in 13 years. Alabama is looking for its 20th win of the year. As an eighth seed, the Crimson Tide had to defeat Southern Illinois and top seeded Stanford, which they did last weekend in thrilling come-from-behind fashion 70-67. The Orangemen have won eight straight NCAA Tournament games, including a first round win over BYU, 80-75 and a second round victory over Maryland, 72-70. The Orangemen have won seven of their last eight games.

The Crimson Tide seems to be benefiting from one of the toughest schedules in America. They come into this game confident and poised. Taking care of the basketball has been a major factor in their tournament run. They committed just eight turnovers against Stanford last time out. Forward Kennedy Winston leads the club offensively, with 16.8 points per game. He netted a team-high 21 points in the win over Stanford. Junior guard Earnest Shelton is averaging 15.8 points per contest, but is inconsistent from outside and doesn't drive much to the basket. Point guard Antoine Pettway has done a fine job quarterbacking the team during the first two games of the tournament. Forward Chuck Davis can get physical inside and has been a threat offensively underneath. Emmett Thomas plays small forward and is one of the Tide's better perimeter shooters. Coach Mark Gottfried can go big, but that also means going very young.

It's been guard Gerry McNamara and forward Hakim Warrick leading the way for the Orangemen. Though the two have been the main principles, the Orange are getting production from center Craig Forth, swingman Josh Pace and freshman forward Demetris Nichols, who has been a great surprise down the stretch. McNamara's outside shooting has opened things up down low. He must be guarded from beyond the arc. The smooth sophomore scored 43 points in the first round win over BYU. Warrick (19.8 ppg, 8.6 rpg) did most of the damage versus Maryland, as he scored 26 points and pulled nine rebounds. Pace and Nichols are adding offense, while Forth is a solid defender and shot blocker in the middle.

The Tide are 10-3 ATS as underdogs and will be getting 1 1/2 in this game. Overall, the Tide are 17-9 ATS and 7-1-1 ATS over their last nine contests. The Orange are just 12-15 ATS, but have been better of late, covering five of their last six outings. The Orange are 6-12 ATS when favored. Seven of the last eight Orange games have gone under the Vegas total.
