                      COLLEGE BASKETBALL

                      Sunday, March 7th

                      KANSAS (19-7 SU/9-14-1 ATS) at MISSOURI (15-11 SU/9-11-3 ATS)

Kansas visits Missouri for a Big-12 Conference game. Kansas is coming off a 78-67 home win over Nebraska on Wednesday as -8½ point chalks. Junior forward Wayne Simien led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting to go with five rebounds. J.R. Giddens added 13 points and grabbed two rebounds, while Jeff Graves scored 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting and pulled down four rebounds. Simien, the Big-12's number-two scorer and number-three rebounder, announced after the game that he would not enter the NBA draft and will return for his senior season next year. Kansas closed out the first half on a 15-4 run and led 43-31 at the break. Kansas started the second half on a 10-0 run en route to the win. The Jayhawks shot 50.8 percent from the field for the game and outscored Nebraska 36-18 in the paint. Kansas is scoring 74.5 ppg and allowing just 66.7 ppg. Simien leads the team in both scoring (17.4 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg). Keith Langford adds 16.0 ppg, while Giddens chips in with 10.6 ppg. Point guard Aaron Miles is the quarterback of the offense with 9.2 ppg and a Big-12 best 7.3 assists per game.

Missouri is off an 87-76 loss at Texas Tech on Wednesday as +4 point underdogs. Arthur Johnson scored 24 points and Jimmy McKinney added 14 for the Tigers, who lost for just the first time in their last seven games. Missouri led 44-41 at halftime, but the Red Raiders opened the second half with a 19-6 run to take a 60-50 lead with 13:41 remaining. The Tigers then went on an 18-9 run to get as close as 78-74, but Tech pulled away for the win. The Tigers turned the ball over 16 times which led to 27 points for the Red Raiders. The loss stopped the Tigers' six-game win streak, which included a 93-92 overtime win over 8th-ranked Oklahoma State on February 24th. Mizzou averages 74.5 ppg, while allowing 71.8 ppg. Rickey Paulding leads the team in scoring with 15.8 ppg and also grabs 4.2 rpg. Johnson averages 14.9 ppg, a team-high 7.5 rpg and has a team-best 46 blocks. Travon Bryant adds 10.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg and has 42 blocks. Kansas is coming off two straight wins at home both SU and ATS, however, prior to that Kansas was on an 0-5 ATS slide. Mizzou is rolling lately, as they are 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games and come in 48-11 ATS in their last 59 SU wins. The Tigers are 6-2-2 ATS the last ten meetings with Kansas and take note that the Jayhawks are an amazing 0-47 ATS in their last 47 conference losses and 0-4 SU and ATS in their last four Big-12 road games. Lay the small number.

                      SELECTION: MISSOURI (minus)

                      VIRGINIA (16-10 SU/12-10 ATS) at MARYLAND (15-11 SU/11-11 ATS)

Virginia takes a short trip across the border for an ACC Conference game with Maryland. The Cavaliers are off an 84-82 home win over Wake Forest on Tuesday as +5½ point underdogs. Devin Smith and Derrick Byars led Virginia with 15 points each, Todd Billet had 13 points and Elton Brown added 12 points for the Cavaliers, who won for the fourth time in five games and beat their third ranked team in that stretch. The Cavaliers trailed 55-50 early in the second half before going on an 11-2 run that gave them their first lead of the night. Virginia shot nearly 61 percent in the second half en route to the narrow win. The Cavs are averaging 74.8 ppg and allowing their foes to score 75.0 ppg. Brown is leading the team in both scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg). Smith averages 12.7 ppg and grabs 5.3 rpg, while Billet adds 10.2 ppg on 39.2 percent shooting from downtown.

Maryland comes off an impressive 70-69 win at NC State on Wednesday as +6½ point road 'dogs. John Gilchrist scored 21 points and Jamar Smith had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Terrapins, who bolstered its hopes for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament with the win. Gilchrist was benched at the start of the game for arriving late to a team breakfast and did not enter the game until the 14:51 mark of the first half. He scored six points in an 11-2 run that gave the Terrapins a 28-14 lead with 7:53 left in the first half. Maryland led by as many as 17 points in the early going before taking a 44-34 halftime lead. Maryland is averaging 76.3 ppg, while holding opponents to just 70.7. Gilchrist leads the team in scoring with 15.0 ppg and also grabs 4.3 rpg and dishes out a team-high 4.8 apg. Nik Caner-Medley (13.0 ppg), Smith (12.3 ppg) and Chris McCray (10.3 ppg) give the Terps plenty of options on offense. Smith currently ranks second in the conference in rebounding with 8.9 boards per game. Virginia comes in on a current 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS run, with big home wins coming over Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Wake Forest. However, the Cavs are a mere 10-30 ATS when taking to the road in ACC play. This is a must game for the Terps, who can ill-afford a home loss to the Cavs. Lay the points.

                      SELECTION: MARYLAND (minus)

                          5* Kings
3* (which is classified as an opinion) Missouri

                          ************
ASA has had several major plays this year in the Colonial conf so I suspect their 10* GOY will be in one of the two games this aft in that conference tourney. ASA's very high rated plays are much stronger than their smaller plays. If anyone get this pick, a post would be appreciated.

Also, Special K hit its 10* total yesterday for what it's worth.
