College Basketball:

Virginia hasn’t won a road game since December 21st at Rutgers when they beat the Scarlet Knights by four points. Curiously, Virginia Tech took Villanova into overtime recently in Philadelphia. We mention that because the same Villanova team scored 110 at Rutgers last Saturday night. The Cavalier defense has allowed 182 points in their last two games and now play their 3rd consecutive game on enemy hardwoods in Blacksburg tonight against the Hokies. The jury is still out on Virginia as they entered this year having to replace three guys that averaged over 41 points a game. The Cavs are hurting in depth right now with center Chris Garnett suspended, center Jason Rogers and guard Majestic Mapp fighting knee injuries. We know the Hokies will be motivated having lost five straight to their cross-state neighbor to the east and coming off a very impressive! wire-to-wire 92-79 upset against Providence on Saturday. Virginia only 11-17 SU on the road the last three years and this year’s team is nowhere near as powerful as 2001 and 2002 editions. We smell an upset. Virginia Tech 3*.

NBA FREEBIE: CLEVELAND That was a helluva finish last night in Philly as the Celtics pop a 3 to win that one SU. Tonight we focus on Gund Arena and the worst team in the history of the NBA the Cavaliers. There are conflicting reports between players as far as the firing goes but even the ones like Tyrone Hill who voiced displeasure over Lucas’ firing has to be thinking it was the appropriate move. Although Bimbo Coles has been diplomatic he compared the team’s atmosphere as “circus like” and stated that some of the younger players did not want to come to the gym and for 19-23 year olds to express disinterest in balling meant something had to give. We feel this firing will go much different than the one in Atlanta at least for the first game. This team sucks and the players know it but there is some talent on hand. How many teams would love to have a healthy C like Ilgauskas and although he’s a thug and total scum in my book Ricky Davis can play. It is a young team and this could provide a short sp! ark for Cleveland. The Magic have given up on Grant Hill and even Mike Miller has been hobbled of late with ankle troubles of his own and in their last 5 games the Magic have been losing by a 101-96 average score.
