Two plays for Saturday:

Utah State at Pacific (+1) - 7:00pm Pacific
I definitely underestimated the Tigers when playing against them vs UC Irvine. All this team does is win. They have now won 7 straight games and 12 of their last 13. Head coach Bob Thomason is in his 16th season at Pacific (longer than any current Big West coach) and does a fine job here. He had to mold 3 good JC transfers in with a solid nucleus of returnees. The team struggled a bit and started just 4-6 but since have only lost once at Utah State and they will have a chance to avenge that tonight. The Tigers are 11-1 in Big West play, their best start in 37 years. This is despite playing 7 of their first 11 conference games on the road.

The target on Utah State's back has been getting bigger and bigger throughout the season. They come in with a perfect 12-0 conference record and are ranked #23 nationally, a rarity for a Big West school. Head coach Stew Merrill says he has never received so many phone calls from national media than he did this week. There is definitely pressure on this team and their bubble could be ready to burst. Merrill himself says that 9 of the teams 19 wins could have been losses. While Pacific played 7 of their first 11 conference games on the road, Utah State played 7 of 11 at home. It could be argued that Pacific is in a better position right now to win the regular season conference title.

Utah State has lost its last two games at the Spanos Center and I would argue they had stronger teams while Pacific had weaker teams the past two seasons. Big West teams traditionally play Thursday & Saturday. Playing at Pacific on Saturday has to be one of the toughest road trips in the Big West. Pacific is 7-1 at home in this situation the past three seasons with wins over UC Irvine by 15 and UCSB by 20 this season. In addition to the two teams being separated by a game in the conference standings and already having an intense rivalry, Utah State is hated even more than usual this season as it is their last season in the conference. They will move to the WAC for both football & basketball starting next season. No one in the Big West wants to see Utah State go undefeated in conference play and bolt. Needless to say, the crowd will be in a frenzy.

Pacific 1 UNIT


UTEP at Nevada (-7) - 7:00pm Pacific
The Wolfpack are clearly the WAC's best team. They are currently only in third place but that is due to a few very tough losses and an unfavorable conference schedule. Nevada's four conference losses have all come on the road by a combined margin of 9 points. They have been dominant at home going 10-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play. They own a convincing 14 point over Kansas here and only one opponent (Louisiana Tech) has even come within 9 points here in Reno. The Wolfpack play three of their final five games at home and will get shots at both UTEP and Hawaii, the two teams ahead of them in the WAC standings, here at home.

UTEP is having a fine season, but they clearly are not nearly as good of a team on the road as they are at home. The Miners have only played 7 road games all season and just 5 of their 12 conference games on the road thus far. For some reason the schedule called for them to play a 6 game homestand right in the heart of league play. In conference play they are 3-2 in road games, but the three wins have come against winless San Jose State, second to last Tulsa in a 3 point nailbiter, and on Thursday in a 3 point nailbiter over a depleted Fresno State team. When playing the WAC's better teams on the road, UTEP has not been competitive, losing at Hawaii by 22, and at Rice by 16. The back to back road game situation that they face today following a tough game at Fresno will not help.

After a promising start to the season that featured a respectable showing in nationally televised trip to UConn, a road win at instate rival UNLV, and a double digit win over Kansas, the Wolfpack have their sights set solely on an NCAA birth. Nevada's Kirk Snyder is the most talented player in the conference. Wolfpack have won 6 of 7 games with only loss coming by 1 point in overtime at SMU. They have been unreal at home and will be fired up for revenge situation and visit from first place team.

Boston College +2 over Providence
The Eagles wins over NC State & Seton Hall look better and better as the Wolfpack & Pirates keep on winning. BC has won three straight and five of their last eight. The three losses in the span came at Pitt, vs UConn, and narrowly at West Virginia. Wins include NC State, Seton Hall, and Notre Dame. If you look at BC's schedule this is a game they have to have. Good chance at a mild upset.

Sorry I havent been here for a while guys, my login was not working for some reason..I think it had to do with the cokies or somethin in the computer. I dunno much about computers. I posted most of the picks over at Ultimate Capper cause I know a bucnh of you go over there, so I see people have been gettin em on here.
