This is my play for Tuesday night.......
3 STAR: NEW JERSEY (-4.5) OVER Detroit
The Nets are on an 8-0 straight up and against the spread run, and look like a new team since Byron Scott was replaced as head coach by Lawrence Frank. The Pistons on the other hand have been struggling. Detroit is 1-3 straight up and against the spread in February and the Pistons are struggling as a team to deal with the cloud of uncertainty that hovers above them as the trade deadline approaches. The NBA trade deadline is February 19, and Detroit is trying to get under the salary cap enough to re-sign center Mehmet Okur this summer. As a result, high paid role players such as Bob Sura, Corliss Williamson and Chucky Atkins are on the trade block. The Nets have had the better of this match up recently when Detroit was focused, winning 5 out of the last 6 meetings straight up and posting a 4-1-1 record against the spread in those games. The Pistons are also only 5-12 against the spread this year against good defensive teams that are allowing 91 or less points per game. I'll lay the points with the hot team here!
NBA SYSTEM PLAYS RECORD
5 STAR RECORD 6-6 (-3.0 UNITS)
3 STAR RECORD 9-5 (+10.5 UNITS)
2 STAR RECORD 16-7 (+17.5 UNITS)
1 STAR RECORD 13-16 (-6.8 UNITS)
OVERALL RECORD 44-34 (+18.20 UNITS)
A $100 player would be up 1820.00
