    Grey Cup Preview
    David Schwab

Heading into Sunday’s 107th Grey Cup Championship, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will try and end a 20-year CFL title drought as East Division Champions. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be looking for their first league championship going all the way back to 1990 after winning the West Division title.

Hamilton rolled to 36-16 victory on Sunday against Edmonton as a 6 ½-point home favorite in the first of two division final showdowns. The total stayed just UNDER the 52 ½-point closing line. Out West, Winnipeg stunned Saskatchewan 20-13 closing as a 2 ½-point road underdog. The total in that game stayed UNDER 45 ½ points.

    Sunday, Nov. 24

Hamilton (16-3 SU, 13-5-1 ATS) vs. Winnipeg (13-7 SU, 14-6 ATS)
    Point-spread: Hamilton -3 ½
    Total: 52

    Game Overview

The Tiger-Cats posted the best straight-up record in the CFL this season and they now have a chance to prove they are the best team with one final victory on Sunday. This was their first East Division title since 2014 and the win was paced by a defense that added two interceptions and one fumble recovery to the winning cause. This unit also posted three sacks while limiting Edmonton to just one offensive touchdown.

Dane Evans played one of his best games of the season at quarterback. He completed 21-of-36 passing attempts for 386 yards and one score against one interception. His top target was Bralon Addison with seven receptions for 130 yards. The Tiger-Cats added 50 yards running the ball on 14 carries. David Watford’s two rushing attempts went for four yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Hamilton is 7-1 against the spread in its last eight games. This includes a 33-13 road win against Winnipeg on Sept. 27 as a five-point underdog. The Tiger-Cats won the first meeting 23-15 in mid-July as two-point underdogs at home. The total stayed UNDER in both contests.

The Blue Bombers started the season with five wins both SU and ATS. A second-half swoon resulted in a SU 2-4 record over their last six regular season contests while going 3-3 ATS. They beat Calgary on the road 35-14 as four-point underdogs to advance to the division finals round. The total went OVER in their previous four games before staying UNDER on Sunday.

This will be Winnipeg’s first appearance in the Grey Cup since 2011. One of the big reasons for the West Division crown was Zach Collaros at quarterback. He got a second chance this season to show he can play at a high level after missing most of the year due to injury. On Sunday, he put the ball up 25 times with 17 completions for 267 yards and a score. He completed passes to six different receivers.

Andrew Harris was the CFL’s leading rusher this season with 1,380 yards and four touchdowns on 225 carries. He added 41 yards running the ball on 10 attempts in Sunday’s win. The Blue Bombers’ defense also rose to the occasion by holding Saskatchewan to just nine points in the second half. It also closed out the game with crucial goal-line stand.

    Betting Trends

-- Hamilton is riding a SU five-game winning streak and the total has stayed UNDER in five of its last six contests. The total has also stayed UNDER in five of its last seven games played away from home.

-- Winnipeg has covered ATS in its last five games with the total going OVER in four of those five games.

-- Head-to-head in this inter-division matchup, the total has stayed UNDER in the last nine meetings. Over the past 10 matchups, the Tiger-Cats have the slight 6-4 edge SU with a 6-3-1 record ATS.

CFL Grey Cup Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers: odds, picks and predictions
        Rohit Ponnaiya

Quarterback Dane Evans leads the Hamilton Tiger-Cats into their Grey Cup matchup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday. Hamilton is currently a 3.5-point betting favorite.

The 107th Grey Cup takes place on Sunday to crown the champion of the 2019 CFL season. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who finished the regular season with a franchise record 15 wins, are 3.5-point favorites against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who are aiming for their first title since 1990.

Since this is the big game in Canadian football, keep an eye out for a ton of available betting options at your sportsbook. Some books are even taking wagers on the length of the national anthem and whether Nicole Kidman will be shown on camera.

The game will be held at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta with kickoff scheduled for just after 6:00 p.m. ET.

We break down the odds for the Grey Cup with our best bets and predictions.

HAMILTON TIGER-CATS VS WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (+3.5, 52)

The turning point for both teams this season occured in Week 7 when they faced off against each other with the Ti-Cats winning 23-15. The Bombers entered that game 5-0 but lost seven of their next 12 contests to stagger into the playoffs, where they had to win on the road as an underdog in back-to-back games to book their ticket to the Grey Cup.

The Ti-Cats lost All-Star quarter Jeremiah Masoli to a season-ending injury in that Week 7 matchup with the Bombers. But they came together as a team, vaulting to the top of the CFL standings thanks to backup QB Dane Evans and a dominant defense. Hamilton has won seven games in a row, with five of those victories coming against playoff-bound squads.

        QUICK HITTER

Hamilton got out to fast starts in both games against Winnipeg during the regular season, jumping out to a 14-0 advantage against them in the first meeting and building a 24-7 lead in the second quarter during Week 16.

The Ti-Cats have the No. 1 passing attack in the league, piling up 313.3 passing ypg during the regular season, and Evans has thrown for a whopping 373.9 passing yards per game over his last eight starts. Winnipeg has a strong defense, especially against the run, but they have been susceptible to the pass. They give up 8.3 yards per pass attempt and 303.4 passing yards per game through the air.

Expect Hamilton to air it out early and back them to get the first score of the game on a touchdown.

        PICK:
First Score Method - Hamilton Touchdown (+300)

        FIRST HALF BET

Both of these teams have strong defenses. Hamilton's stop unit had 54 sacks and 22 interceptions during the regular season, and could make life difficult for Winnipeg QB Zach Collaros who joined the team mid-season and has started just three games as a member of the Bombers.

Winnipeg's defense is led by the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in defensive end Willie Jefferson, along with last year's winner of the same award in linebacker Adam Bighill. The Bombers D piled up 48 sacks and 24 interceptions while holding opponents to a league-low 64.2 rushing yards per game.

Winnipeg, led by running back Andrew Harris, is the most run-heavy offense in the CFL. They average a league-high 24.6 carries per game (almost 3 carries higher than second-place Saskatchewan), while ranking at the bottom of the league in both pass attempts and passing yards. They will have to successfully run the ball if they want to win this contest, so expect them to lean on their ground game early to try and control the clock. Take the 1H Under.

        PICK:
        First Half Under 26

        TEAM/PLAYER PROP

As our NFL writer Josh Inglis likes to point out, kickers are people too, and we're focusing on a couple of big (and reliable) boots with this prop.

Hamilton kicker Liam Hajrullahu is 26 for 28 on extra point attempts this season while Winnipeg kicker Justin Medlock has connected on 54 of 55 conversions. With just three missed XPA between both teams, taking the "No" on will either team miss an extra point attempt has terrific value at -120.

        PICK:
Will either team miss an extra point attempt - No (-120)

        FULL GAME TOTAL

Hamilton has the highest scoring offense in the league but they also have the top defense allowing just 19.1 ppg, including just 16.2 ppg over the last two months. They stuffed the Bombers in both games in the head-to-head this season, holding them to 15 points in Week 7 and 13 points in the second meeting.

Winnipeg had one of the top defenses in the league for most of the year, limiting opponents to 19 ppg through their first 12 games of the season. They went through a rough stretch towards the end of the regular season but have bounced back in the playoffs holding the Calgary Stampeders and the Saskatchewan Rough Riders to a total of 27 points.

With the championship on the line we like this to be a low-scoring battle. We're leaning towards the Under.

        PICK
        : Under 52

        FULL GAME SIDE

Hamilton has looked like a team on a mission this year, not just winning games but destroying opponents like some sort of Canadian version of the Buckeyes. They've gone 8-1-2 ATS in their last 11 games and have an average scoring margin of plus-11.9 ppg on the year.

The Bombers have been inconsistent this season, looking great at times and really bad at other times. There has to be some concerns with a QB that's only started three games in this offensive system, and a defense that gave up 30.2 ppg over a six-game stretch towards the end of the campaign.

When it comes right down to it the CFL is largely a passing league and Hamilton has the big edge in the passing game - both on offense and defense. Winnipeg's secondary will have a difficult time slowing down Ti-Cats receivers Brandon Banks and Bralon Addison who have combined for 3016 receiving yards in 17 total games this year. And if Hamilton builds an early lead the Bombers will be hard-pressed to play from behind with their run-focused offensive gameplan.

Take the Ti-Cats to win and cover.

        PICK:
        Hamilton -3.5
