      • No. 19 Iowa beats Nebraska 27-24 on DuncanĆ¢??s late FG
        November 29, 2019
        By The Associated Press

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Brady White threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns and No. 17 Memphis beat 18th-ranked Cincinnati 34-24 on Friday for the TigersĆ¢?? third straight American Athletic Conference West title and the right to host the league championship - and the Bearcats again - next week.

This will be the first time that Memphis (11-1, 7-1, No. 18 CFP) will host a conference title game in program history.

And the league championship will be a rematch between these teams after Memphis snapped a nine-game winning streak by the East Division champs. Cincinnati (10-2, 7-1, No. 19 CFP) hadnĆ¢??t lost since being routed by Ohio State on Sept. 7.

Joseph Dorceus and Bryce Huff had two sacks apiece, and Memphis finished with five. The Tigers came up with three turnovers, including an interception by Sanchez Blake Jr. with 1:35 left.

Memphis also forced Cincinnati three-and-out after Ahmad Gardner intercepted White with 7:49 left with the Tigers up only 27-24.

The Tigers led only 20-17 when they put together their longest drive, going 83 yards over nine plays capped by a flea flicker. Patrick Taylor took the handoff, handed to Kedarian Jones who flipped the ball to White, and he hit Damonte Coxie for a 46-yard TD with 13:22 left.

Antonio Gibson scored on a 29-yard TD run with 3:16 left for the final margin for Memphis.

        NO. 19 IOWA 27, NEBRASKA 24

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Keith Duncan kicked a 48-yard field goal with a second left to lift Iowa past Nebraska and keep the Cornhuskers out of the postseason for a third consecutive season.

The Hawkeyes (9-3, 6-3 Big Ten) overcame a sluggish second half offensively to beat the Cornhuskers (5-7, 3-6) for a fifth straight year and second year in a row on a late field goal. Last year, they won on a 41-yarder as time expired.

Iowa, which had its 14-point lead wiped out in the third quarter, started its final possession at its 26 with 32 seconds left. Stanley had a long pass to Nico Ragaini overturned to incomplete on video review, but then completed a pair of 22-yard passes to Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Sam LaPorta to bring on the reliable Duncan.

The Huskers called two timeouts before Duncan drilled the winner down the middle,

Nebraska, down 24-10 at half, tied it with back-to-back touchdowns in the third quarter. Luke McCaffrey entered the game for a play in place of quarterback Adrian Martinez, rolled to his left and hit JD Spielman with a perfect 39-yard TD pass.

IowaĆ¢??s Kirk Ferentz moved ahead of the man he replaced, Hayden Fry, on the Big Ten list for career conference wins. Ferentz has 97, behind only Ohio StateĆ¢??s Woody Hayes (153), MichiganĆ¢??s Bo Schembechler (143) and the University of ChicagoĆ¢??s Amos Alonzo Stagg (115).

NO. 20 BOISE STATE 31, COLORADO STATE 24

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Jaylon Henderson accounted for three scores, defensive tackle David Moa came up with a big late sack and Boise State beat Colorado State to finish undefeated in Mountain West Conference play for the first time.

Boise State (11-1, 8-0, No. 20 CFP) will host Hawaii next week in the Mountain West title game.

Henderson ran for a short score early in the fourth to give Boise State some breathing room. He also threw two TD passes, giving him eight over the past three games as he fills in for banged-up starter Hank Bachmeier and backup Chase Cord.

Garrett Collingham hauled in one of HendersonĆ¢??s TD passes and ran in another as the Broncos head into the leagueĆ¢??s championship game with a head of steam. They host Hawaii on Saturday.

Patrick OĆ¢??Brien threw for 289 yards and two TDs for the Rams (4-8, 3-5). They are 0-9 against Boise State.

        NO. 22 APPALACHIAN STATE 48, TROY 13

TROY, Ala. (AP) - Zac Thomas passed for 326 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for a fifth score to lead Appalachian State past Troy in the regular-season finale.

The win assured the Mountaineers (11-1, 7-1 Sun Belt Conference) of hosting the league title game against Louisiana next Saturday.

Thomas, Darrynton Evans, Thomas Hennigan and others all delivered big plays for Appalachian State, which reached the end zone on each of its first five possessions against the Trojans (5-7, 3-5).

Thomas was 28-of-34 passing with his final attempt a 25-yard scoring strike to Evans to start the fourth quarter. He had a 12-yard touchdown run.

Evans also scored on runs of 52 and 9 yards and gained 82 yards. Hennigan gained 140 yards on 11 catches and Malik Williams caught two short touchdown passes.

        VIRGINIA 39, NO. 23 VIRGINIA TECH 30

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Bryce Perkins put up 475 yards of offense, Brian Delaney kicked a go-ahead 48-yard field with 1:23 to play and Virginia sealed it with a defensive score, beating Virginia Tech to end a 15-game losing streak in the rivalry and earn the CavaliersĆ¢?? first trip to the ACC championship game.

Virginia will represent the Coastal Division against No. 3 Clemson in the ACC championship next Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Perkins ran for two long touchdowns and passed for another for the Cavaliers (9-3, 6-2), who became the seventh school in as many years to claim the Coastal Division. Delaney also kicked a 25-yard field goal for Virginia, and his last kick made up for a missed extra point early.

Hendon Hooker ran for one touchdown and threw for another for the Hokies (8-4, 5-3), who came in having won six of seven games to surge into championship contention.

              Saturday’s List of 13: Wrapping up a busy Friday…..

              13) Virginia 39, Virginia Tech 30— Cavaliers go to ACC championship game for first time, while ending a 15-game losing streak to their in-state rivals.

              12) Michigan 82, Gonzaga 64— Wolverines win the Battle of Atlantis, as Juwan Howard begins his head coaching career by winning his first seven games. Thursday’s OT win over Oregon probably took a lot out of the Zags.

              11) Marquette 101, USC 79— Markus Howard scored 51 points, his teammates scored 50 as the whole team advances to play Maryland in the finals of the Orlando tournament Sunday. This game was 57-36 at the half; Trojans beat Fairfield 57-48 the day before.

              10) Penn State 85, Syracuse 64— ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla basically said without saying the exact words that this is the least talented Syracuse team in decades. Orange are 4-3, with all three losses by 14+ points- their best win is over Colgate.

              9) Wake Forest 88, Long Beach State 75— Danny Manning’s Deacons move on to the finals of the Wooden Legacy, will play Arizona in the final Sunday.

Early in this game, kid on Long Beach hits a 3-pointer in front of the Wake Forest bench, and gets a technical for woofing at someone on the bench. Long Beach takes the kid out; the head coach snaps at him a little, then the assistant coach goes over and smooths things over, getting him ready to go back in the game.

              8) San Diego State 83, Iowa 73— Aztecs trailed by 17 at one point, improve to 8-0, winning tournament at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

              7) Through Week 12, NFL teams with most plays of 20+ yards:
Cowboys 58 (before the Buffalo game), Lions 57

Through Week 12, NFL teams with least plays of 20+ yards:
Dolphins 27, Redskins 29, Bears 31 (before Thursday)

              6) Through Week 12, NFL teams that allowed most plays of 20+ yards:
              Bengals 69, Raiders 66, Arizona/Miami 58

Through Week 12, NFL teams that allowed fewest plays of 20+ yards:
              Patriots/Rams/49ers, all 29

              5) Iowa 27, Nebraska 24— Hawkeyes kicked a FG with 0:01 left to end Nebraska’s season at 5-7; this is third year in row that Cornhuskers won’t go bowling.

              4) West Virginia 20, TCU 17— Horned Frogs lose as a 13-point home favorite and don’t become bowl eligible. Sad way to end the season.

              3) Patriots kicker Nick Folk had an appendectomy, was going miss this week’s game in Houston and then come back, but New England cut him Friday; former Redskins kicker Kai Forbath will be his replacement.

Moral of the story: Don’t have an appendectomy during the season.

              2) Philadelphia Eagles signed OT Lane Johnson to a 4-year contract extension worth $72M, with $54.595M of that guaranteed.

              1) Reds’ pitcher Trevor Bauer’s $300,000 McLaren sports car was totaled while it was being stored at a Houston McLaren dealership. On Tuesday, a tire fell off of a semi truck, rolled across six lanes of traffic on a Houston highway, struck a wall, and crashed thru a double-paned glass window at the dealership and wrecked Bauer’s car.

Thats an expensive day; luckily, no one was injured.

              • Iron Bowl Betting Preview
                November 29, 2019
                By Brian Edwards

No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 15 Auburn Tigers
                Venue/Location: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, Alabama
                Time/TV: Saturday, Nov. 30, 3:30 p.m. ET
                Line: Alabama -3, Total 49

Auburn will host Alabama on Saturday afternoon in their annual slugfest. Gus Malzahn’s team would love nothing more than to spoil the Crimson Tide’s hopes of returning to the College Football Playoff.

There could be bigger stakes in play for Malzahn, the head coach who is seemingly on the hot seat every season. Just like in 2017, the Arkansas job is open and its former offensive coordinator could be one of their top targets. Two seasons ago, Malzahn beat previously-undefeated Georgia and Alabama in a three-week stretch to win the SEC West.

With the Razorbacks in hot pursuit, Auburn’s former president pushed hard and got Malzahn a lucrative new contract. This time around, however, that president is long gone (he was paid handsomely to go away this past summer) and the fan base – one that’s constantly tortured by the success of its in-state rival – remains restless.

On the other side, Nick Saban’s team is fifth in the College Football Rankings this week. Therefore, it needs a win at Jordan-Hare Stadium and some help from its other competitors, many of whom can pad their resumes with another quality win and a conference title next weekend. The Crimson Tide won’t have that chance, though, so it wants to pick up as many style points as possible on The Plains. As of Friday afternoon, most betting shops had Alabama (10-1 straight up, 6-5 against the spread) installed as a 3.5-point road favorite with a total of 49.5. The Tigers were +150 on the money line.

‘Bama lost star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a season-ending injury in the second quarter of a 38-7 win at Mississippi State two weeks ago.

Mac Jones had started in a 48-7 win over Arkansas as a 32-point home favorite, when Tagovailoa was recovering from an ankle injury suffered in a 35-13 non-covering home triumph over Tennessee. Twenty days later after Tagovailoa underwent tightrope ankle surgery, he started in a 46-41 home loss to LSU.

As we explained to you in our LSU at Alabama preview using quotes from Dr. Michael Gilmore, who had performed three of the same tightrope procedures the previous week, Tagovailoa was “75 percent healthy at best.” This fact was evident, especially on a fumble deep in the red zone on the Tide’s opening drive. Nevertheless, Tagovailoa played valiantly against the Tigers, but it wasn’t enough.

Saban decided to play his Heisman Trophy candidate the following week in Starkville, even when his team comfortably led 35-7 late in the second quarter. Tagovailoa sustained a hip injury on what would’ve been his final possession of that day.

Jones played well in last week’s 66-3 win over Western Carolina as a 58.5-point home favorite, but there’s no doubt that the CFP committee will judge his team – as it is with him under center – based on how it looks in hostile territory against a top-tier opponent.

Jones completed 17-of-20 passes for 275 yards and three TDs without an interception against the Catamounts. Jaylen Waddle had three catches for 101 yards and one TD, while DeVonta Smith had four receptions for 94 yards and two TDs. Najee Harris had a 12-yard TD reception, and he also had 66 rushing yards and one score on 14 attempts.

For the season, Jones has connected on 71.4 percent of his throws for 841 yards with a 7/1 touchdown-to-interception ratio. However, we should note that those numbers can be a little deceiving. Jones is making more high-percentage throws than Tagovailoa, with his NFL-level group of wideouts producing lots of YAC (yards after catch). To be clear, though, there’s nothing wrong with that. It can be extremely effective, but this offense isn’t nearly as explosive without Tagovailoa.

Harris has 942 rushing yards, 10 TDs and a 6.0 yards-per-carry average. He also has 23 catches for 278 yards and seven TDs.

Smith has 60 receptions for 1,120 yards and 13 TDs, while Jerry Jeudy has 66 catches for 933 yards and six TDs. Henry Ruggs III has caught 32 balls for 620 yards and six TDs, and Waddle has 28 grabs for 455 yards and three TDs.

Alabama is unbeaten in three road assignments, going 2-1 ATS. The non-cover came in backdoor fashion in the final seconds of a 47-23 win at South Carolina as a 25-point road ‘chalk.’ The Tide’s best win of the season in a 47-28 triumph at Texas A&M.

Auburn (8-3 SU, 8-3 ATS) has won five of its six home games, going 4-2 ATS. All three of Auburn’s losses came in heartbreaking fashion against Top-10 foes. AU lost a 24-13 decision at Florida, 23-20 at LSU and 21-14 vs. Georgia two weeks ago.

Malzahn’s bunch owns quality wins over Oregon (27-21 at Jerry World in Arlington) and at Texas A&M (28-20). The Tigers are off a 52-0 win over Samford as 45.5-point home favorites. True freshman QB Bo Nix completed 15-of-23 passes for 150 yards and one TD without an interception.

JaTarvious Whitlow was the SEC’s second-leading rusher going into the Week 6 showdown against the Gators. He sprained his knee at UF and missed a pair of games. Whitlow saw limited playing time at LSU and vs. UGA, but he appeared to be back to 100 percent last week.

Whitlow had 49 rushing yards and two TDs on seven carries vs. Samford. He also had two catches for 46 yards.

For the season, Nix has hit on 57.6 percent of his passes for 2,193 yards with a 14/6 TD-INT ratio. Seth Williams has 52 catches for 735 yards and eight TDs. Anthony Schwartz is a burner who can take it to the house on any given touch. He has 34 receptions for 378 yards and one TD, in addition to 118 rushing yards and two scores on just 11 totes.

Whitlow has 625 rushing yards, nine TDs and a 4.8 YPC average. D.J. Williams has 371 rushing yards and two TDs, averaging 5.2 YPC.

Auburn is ranked 14th in the nation in total defense, 18th against the run and 11th in scoring ‘D’ (16.2 points per game). Senior DE Marlon Davidson has a team-best eight sacks, while DE Derrick Brown has four of this unit’s 26 tackles of opposing signal callers.

Alabama is ranked 16th in the country in total defense, 13th versus the pass and 10th in scoring ‘D’ (16.2 PPG).

The ‘under’ has cashed in four straight Auburn games to improve to 7-4 overall. The Tigers have seen the ‘under’ go 4-2 in their home games. AU’s games have averaged combined scores of 48.9 PPG.

The ‘over’ is 6-5 overall for ‘Bama, 2-1 in its road assignments. The Tide’s games have averaged combined scores of 64.7 PPG. This is Alabama’s highest total of the year. The previous low was 56 points in a 48-7 win vs. Arkansas that dipped ‘under’ by only one point.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

                **B.E.’s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Illinois could be without its three best players – QB Brandon Peters, RB Reggie Corbin and LB Jake Hansen – for its regular-season finale at home vs. Northwestern. Peters, who missed one game and parts of another with a concussion earlier this season, left last week’s 19-10 loss at Iowa late in the fourth quarter after taking a hard hit to the head. Corbin left the loss in Iowa City with a knee injury, while Hansen has missed back-to-back games with an undisclosed injury and is ‘questionable’ vs. the Wildcats. Illinois has covered the spread in six straight games.

-- Florida is unbeaten in five home games with a 4-1 spread record. As of Friday afternoon, most books had the Gators listed as 18-point favorites vs. Florida State. The Seminoles haven’t lost to UF at The Swamp since 2009, Tim Tebow’s senior season. The Seminoles have lost three of their four road games, going 1-2-1 ATS. Dan Mullen told the media earlier this week that star DE Jabari Zuniga has been cleared to play. He’s missed six of the last eight games with a lingering ankle injury.

-- Virginia snapped a 15-game losing streak against arch-rival Virginia Tech in Friday’s 39-30 win as a 2.5-point home underdog. The win puts the Cavaliers in the ACC Championship Game for the first time in program history. Their reward is a date with undefeated Clemson next weekend.

-- Clemson is a 27-point favorite at South Carolina. The Tigers’ star WR Justyn Ross (ribs) is listed as ‘questionable’ against the Gamecocks, who are set to get RB Tavien Feaster back after he missed back-to-back games with a hamstring injury. We touched on how South Carolina star WR Bryan Edwards had knee surgery last Wednesday. Will Muschamp has said this week that he’s practiced a little bit and upgraded him to ‘questionable.’

-- Oklahoma State is 5-1 both SU and ATS in its last six games as home underdogs since 2015. The Cowboys are 13-point home underdogs Saturday vs. Oklahoma. The Sooners have failed to cover the spread in four consecutive games and are mired in a 1-6 ATS slide.

                • DINK-AND-DUNK DAY?

The Iron Bowl will be must-see TV this year as the Alabama Crimson Tide look to strengthen their College Football Playoff case against the host Auburn Tigers. The Crimson Tide will need an emphatic victory in their regular-season finale to earn consideration – and while they average 7.95 yards per play for the season, that mark is largely due to the big-play ability of now-injured QB Tua Tagovailoa. Mac Jones will play in the regular-season finale, and he's a significant step down in talent – and the Tigers boast one of the stoutest defensive units in the country, limiting opponents to 4.48 yards per play.

The Crimson Tide will happily take four singles over a home run if it means coming away with the win – but it should limit their offensive upside, leading us to favor the Under on their team total.

DEFENSES WITH AN AXE TO GRIND

Who will take home Paul Bunyan's Axe? The Badgers and Golden Gophers both hope to hoist the giant chopping tool as they resume their bitter rivalry in Saturday's regular-season finale – and this game could very well come down to which team makes fewer defensive mistakes. Not only has Minnesota cut its rushing yards allowed by roughly 50 per game from 2018 to now, it also shares the Big Ten lead in interceptions with 14. Wisconsin, meanwhile, ranks fourth in the country in sacks with 39 and ranks inside the top-7 nationally in total defense (270.3 yards per game) and points allowed (14.4).

Both teams will almost certainly sell out to stop the opponents' top offensive option – and that should make points scarce in a game that sees the winner advance to the Big Ten title game. We like the Under.

                  X-FACTOR

The Florida State Seminoles already have issues with their offensive line – and those problems could be magnified in their season finale as they tangle with the rival Florida Gators in Gainesville on Saturday evening. The visiting Seminoles have earned their bowl game eligibility despite ranking 122nd in the country in sacks allowed per game (3.27) and tied for 123rd in tackles for loss against (8.09). Not only has Florida racked up 38 sacks entering the final weekend of the regular season (tied for fifth-most in the country), it will see the return of standout pass rusher Jabari Zuniga (ankle), who has been limited to five games in 2019.

Florida State is in for a long evening courtesy the Gators' relentless pass rush. We're taking the home team to cover with ease.

                  IT’S BEDLAM TIME

Don't be surprised to see the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys let loose as they wrap up their respective regular seasons with the latest chapter of their Bedlam rivalry. Both teams rank inside the top-25 in points per game, and have made a habit of saving some of their top offensive performances for their in-state encounters. The teams are 5-1-1 O/U in their last seven meetings despite four of those games carrying a total of 70 or higher; the list of shootouts includes a wild 48-47 Oklahoma victory last season in which the teams combined for an incredible 1,342 yards of total offense.

With both sides boasting elite-level playmakers and showing no signs of being able to slow down a top-flight opponent, the Over on this game might just be our favorite play of the weekend.

                  DTR A DNP?

The UCLA Bruins might roll with their backup quarterback for their season finale against visiting California on Saturday. Dorian Thompson-Robinson was held out of Tuesday's practice after suffering a leg injury in last weekend's loss to USC; he was re-taped and remained in the game until it got out of hand, but might not recover in time to face the Golden Bears. Thompson-Robinson has had an up-and-down season for the Bruins, completing fewer than 60 percent of his passes with 20 TDs and 11 interceptions. Austin Burton would likely get the start if Thompson-Robinson can't go.

With Cal having already secured bowl eligibility and UCLA having been eliminated, this game won't mean much to either side; we like the Under regardless if DTR plays, but it's an even strong option if he doesn't.

                  BRYAN’S BACK

Standout wide receiver Bryan Edwards could be back on the field for South Carolina's regular-season finale against powerhouse Clemson. Edwards hasn't played since undergoing arthroscopic surgery following a Nov. 9 loss to Appalachian State. Edwards sat out the Gamecocks' 30-6 loss to Texas A&M the following week, but has had an additional bye week to rest up and is listed as questionable for Saturday. Edwards' presence would assuredly invigorate a South Carolina offense that managed just six points against the Aggies in his absence; he leads the team in receiving yards (816) and touchdowns (six).

Clemson shouldn't have to work that hard whether South Carolina has Edwards in the fold or not – but that should work in the Gamecocks' favor from an ATS perspective. We like the home side to cover, particularly if Edwards returns.

                  WHOP SET TO RETURN

The latest edition of the Old Oaken Bucket battle between Indiana and Purdue should have one of its biggest playmakers in action. Hoosiers wide receiver Whop Philyor was held out of a Nov. 16 loss to the Michigan Wolverines while recovering from a head injury suffered a week earlier against Penn State. But Philyor is expected to return after missing just one game as Indiana wraps up its regular-season schedule with a visit to the rival Boilermakers. Philyor has been one of the most prolific receivers in the Big Ten this season, ranking third in the conference in receptions (61) and fifth in receiving yards (863).

Indiana is 4-0 O/U in its last four road games. Purdue has converted the Over more than two-thirds of the time in its past 8+ years worth of home games. And the teams have gone above the total five straight times at Ross-Ade Stadium. Add it all up, throw in a little Whop, and we like the Over here.

                  • Saturday's Essentials
                    November 30, 2019
                    By Tony Mejia

Here’s a look at what must be considered before wagering on Friday's slate in select FBS vs. FBS matchups:

                    Early Starts
Georgia (-28.5/46.5) at Georgia Tech, 12 p.m. ET, ABC:
The Bulldogs have had a much nicer time preparing for the Yellow Jackets than they have in past years since a modernized spread look is much easier to prepare for than a triple option, especially this late in the season. They would love to take care of business without suffering any injuries ahead of next week’s SEC Championship date with LSU.

Georgia hasn’t lost at Georgia Tech since 1999 and figure to help fill out the house by helping pack Tech’s home stadium for them. Clean Old-fashioned Hate has been pretty one-sided and should again feature a blowout where only the spread will be in doubt late. First-year coach Geoff Collins does have his team playing their best football of the season following a 28-26 upset of N.C. State in which QB James Graham, WR Ahmarean Brown and DE Jordan Domineck all took steps forward. Don’t expect any wrinkles to be on display here since Jake Fromm and the offense will be saving those for Atlanta and LSU. For that reason, a vanilla game plan could help land at least a backdoor cover opportunity for the Yellow Jackets if the outcome is in hand come fourth-quarter. Georgia has covered in each of the last two seasons.

Ohio State (-9.5/64) at Michigan, 12 p.m ET, FOX: If there’s an upset in these early games, the Wolverines are most likely to pull it off, coming into their rivalry game with the Buckeyes on a four-game winning streak, having outscored their opposition 166-45 in becoming a very reliable ATS squad, even covering in their most recent loss at Penn State. Both of the Wolverines’ losses this season have come outside Ann Arbor, where Jim Harbaugh has won 13 straight games, last losing to the Buckeyes to close the 2017 season. Harbaugh has dropped all four of his matchups with the Buckeyes, losing the first three to Urban Meyer the first three years and Ryan Day last season by a remarkable 62-39 margin that ranks as the most points ever given up by Michigan. The Wolverines lost at home as a 12-point underdog in ’17 but covered in the 31-20 loss and they actually were 4-point favorites in Columbus when taking that vicious beating last year, so the spread hasn’t meant much in recent years.

With Chase Young back, a fearsome Buckeyes’ defense will look to disrupt Shea Patterson’s rhythm coming off a 371-yard, five-touchdown game against the Hoosiers, giving him nine over the past two games. Ohio State’s Justin Fields has thrown for 43 touchdowns and has been intercepted only once, so this will be his Heisman statement. He’s coming off a thumb injury suffered last week and has been banged up, so Michigan could have a chance at pulling off an upset and snapping a run that has seen it drop 14 of 15 in this rivalry. Rain and snow could be part of the festivities. Temperatures will be in the high 30’s. Game on.

Clemson (-27/50.5) at South Carolina, 12 p.m. ET, ESPN: The Gamecocks haven’t won in this series since Steve Spurrier haunted Dabo Swinney with five straight wins from ’09-’13 after losing to him when he took over in an interim role. Swinney has won five straight, four of which have come by double-digits. The outlier in that stretch is when he took his top-ranked team into Columbia and escaped with a 37-32 win as a 20-point favorite. Trevor Lawrence helped put up a 56-spot in last year’s win in Death Valley and will again attempt to toy with a Will Muschamp defense. His teams have fallen 147-52 against the rival Tigers. Lawrence has thrown 16 touchdown passes without being intercepted and became the first quarterback in school history to throw for at least three scores in six consecutive games.

South Carolina won’t be going bowling even if it pulls off this massive upset, which is wild since they’ve already taken down Georgia in Athens. The Gamecocks were held to a season-low six points last week by Texas A&M but freshman QB Ryan Hilinski has held up decently against the Dawgs and Crimson Tide, defenses on par with what he’ll see today. South Carolina’s leading rusher, Tavien Feaster, opened his career at Clemson and will be returning from an injury. He’ll need to have a big game to keep this close.

                    Afternoon Delights
Wisconsin (-3/47) at Minnesota, 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC:
The Gophers will look to wrap up a Rose Bowl bid and welcome College Gameday to Minneapolis for the first time ever. While it’s not the biggest game of the day – not even the biggest game in their own conference – the battle for Paul Bunyan’s ax is as big as it has ever been. Minnesota won last season to end a 14-game losing streak in the series, which is now even at 60-60-8. Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor is 144 yards shy of 6,000 rushing yards for the season, so getting him a little individual glory will likely be the key to Wisconsin holding serve as a road favorite.

The Gophers are 6-1-1 ATS over their last eight and have seen QB Phillip Nelson and top WRs Rashod Bateman and Tyler Johnson make huge leaps forward. The 15 points that Minnesota surrendered against Wisconsin was the lowest total the Badgers have produced in the series since 1990. Rain and snow will make it difficult for both teams to move the ball. The ‘over’ is 15-4 in the last 19 battles for the ax and has connected in four of the last five games involving the Gophers.

Alabama (-3.5/49.5) at Auburn, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS: The Crimson Tide will look to continue their dominance over the Tigers on the six-year anniversary of their most memorable loss in the Iron Bowl, the unforgettable “Kick Six” game. Auburn also won as five-point underdogs in 2017 and will try and make life difficult for sophomore Mac Jones, who has been thrust into the starting role with Tua Tagovailoa done for the season and kid brother Taulia Tagovailoa not ready to take the reins just yet. The Tigers’ defensive line is among the best in the country, so even though Jones has gotten plenty of experience over the years and looked sharp in a 66-3 win over Western Carolina last week.

The Tigers have been tested plenty this season, defeating Oregon and losing to Florida, LSU and Georgia due to a lack of offense. This Alabama defense isn’t as strong as it has been in years past, so freshman QB Bo Dix may be able to exploit hooking up with Seth Williams. It’s expected to be a warm day on the Plains, so both quarterbacks won’t have to deal with the elements as they look to make the most of their fabulous receiving corps.

Notre Dame (-16.5/46.5) at Stanford, 4 p.m. ET, NBC: The Irish hope to wrap up a 10-win season by ending a drought on the Farm, where Stanford hasn’t lost to the Golden Domers in over a decade. It’s been a disastrous run for the Cardinal this season due to multiple injuries, so this will be the school’s bowl game since they won’t finish with a winning record for the first time since ’08, ending David Shaw’s run of bowls in succession. Notre Dame has dropped five straight in Palo Alto and will look to end that run to win 10 games for a third straight year for the first time since ’91-’93.

The Irish is going out on the road with a patchwork offensive line after losing right guard Tommy Kraemer and top tackle Robert Haisey. There’s a 70 percent chance of rain forecast here and wind gusts are likely, so it might be tough for both teams to move the ball. The Cardinal’s rushing attack has really struggled this season, so unless the weather holds up, it might be tough for either team to move the ball considering QB Davis Mills hasn’t been able to rely on his ground game. Notre Dame was crushed by Michigan last time it played in a heavy rain storm.

                    Late-Night Snack
Army at Hawai’i (-3/54.5), 12:30 a.m. ET, CBSSN: The Warriors pulled out an enormous 14-11 win at home last Saturday against San Diego State to clinch a spot in the Mountain West title game, so we’ll see if they’re able to sustain their intensity in what may be a difficult game to get up for considering next week’s matchup with Boise State. Consider that although Hawai’I has run into a New Mexico team that runs elements of the spread option, Army’s triple-option is very difficult to prepare for and will really test Hawaii’s coaches since they may not want to expose key defenders to chop blocks and a physical grinding style that is required to stop Army.

The Black Knights want to head back to West Point with a 6-6 record so that their game against Navy affords them an opportunity to get bowl eligible in its own right. After dropping five straight games, Army has outscored UMass and VMI by a 110-13 margin, so we’ll see how they handle a step up in competition. Hawai’I has really struggled to stop the run, so if you’re reading this, go ahead and take my freebie for the day and take the points with Army to win in Honolulu, where wind gusts may also aid the cause in keeping the team’s feared passing attack from throwing it around efficiently.

                            BUCKEYES BIG HOUSE BLOWOUT

Ohio State has turned what's known as The Game into ITS Game, making one of the greatest rivalries in sports a one-sided series with little suspense.

Chasing a national championship, not simply beating the Wolverines, is how the Buckeyes measure a successful season.

And under first-year coach Ryan Day, they have put themselves in a position to potentially win it all for the second time since the 2014 season and third time this century.

J.K. Dobbins ran for four touchdowns and Justin Fields threw four TD passes, providing plenty of firepower for No. 2 Ohio State to rout No. 10 Michigan 56-27 for a school-record eighth straight win in the series.

The Buckeyes will head to the Big Ten championship game to face No. 13 Wisconsin next Saturday with a spot in the College Football Playoff in sight.

                            SIZZLING IRON BOWL

Auburn delivered the final blow to Alabama's playoff chances. No surprised the Tigers did it home.

Shaun Shivers scored on an 11-yard run with 8:08 left to put No. 16 Auburn ahead and another failed field goal by Alabama in the Iron Bowl wiped away the fifth-ranked Crimson Tide's playoff hopes in a wild 48-45 victory for the Tigers.

Auburn survived a final, marathon Crimson Tide drive when Joseph Bulovas' 30-yard field goal attempt hit the left upright with 2:00 left.

Auburn couldn't get a first down on JaTarvious Whitlow's three runs while Alabama burned its final two time outs. But the Tide was called for illegal substitution after the Tigers lined up for a punt, setting off a fist-pumping celebration for coach Gus Malzahn.

Auburn fans stormed the field to celebrate another Iron Bowl thriller, filling it from end zone to end zone as they did in the 2013 Kick-Six game, when the Tigers' returned a missed Tide field goal for a game-winning touchdown.

                            NUMBERS

3-Times No. 11 Baylor has won 11 games in a season since the program was founded in 1899, including this year.

517-Rushing yards by Kentucky in its 45-13 win over rival Louisville, a school record.

UTES ROLL IN PAC-12 TITLE GAME

After Utah's lone stumble this season, at Southern California in September, quarterback Tyler Huntley called a players-only meeting.

Huntley is known for his short answers with media and he didn't need to long to get his message across that day. He told his teammates they were a team of destiny and that loss wouldn't define the season.

                            It didn't.

No. 6 Utah clinched the Pac-12 South title and remained in the hunt for the College Football Playoff with a 45-15 victory over Colorado.

The Utes needed a quarter to get rolling in 25-degree temperatures, but romped to their eighth straight victory as Brant Kuithe scored three touchdowns. Huntley was 14-for-17 for 165 yards and connected with Kuithe twice for scores.
