The current line on this contest is Rice –7 ½. We usually don’t like to give this many points on the road, but UTEP is one of the very worst College Basketball teams in the nation.

The Miners are 3-11 S/U to this point, but they have only beaten one Division I team, and that was equally inept San Jose State! In fact, UTEP even lost by 14 points here at home to Alcorn State early in the year. They were swept in their two head-to-head meetings with Rice last season by an average of 10.5 points, and they are 1-4 vs. Conference opponents this year, losing those contests by an average of 10.4 points.

Rice is playing good ball right now, going 8-2 S/U in their last 10 games to raise their overall mark to a fine 10-4. Most impressively, they are 3-1 S/U in their last 4 road games, and they are coming off of a 74-65 mild road upset of Boise State on Thursday as 2-point underdogs. The Owls are also 2-0 ATS in their conference road games this season, as they suffered a narrow 1-point loss at Fresno State in their conference road opener.
