NBA FREEBIE: NY/DET OVER The Knicks ride into Motor City with a star on the rise. We know all about Allan Houston’s 22 PPG and Latrell Sprewell and his 16.8 but Kurt Thomas is truly beginning to turn some heads. He’s averaging a modest 14.5 PPG and 8.6 RPG but lately has turned it up a notch. In the Knicks home and home turnaround win against the Bulls on Tuesday the 6-9 center scored 24 and added 13 boards for his 12th double-double of the season. In their last 5 games NY has scored 95.4 PPG and given up the same on the defensive end of the floor. The Pistons are misers when it comes to points, both scoring and allowing, but lately have looked like the old “showtime” Lakers of the 80’s…well maybe not but in the last 5 games they have averaged a shade above 5 PPG more than their seasonal average of 90.1
