NFL Picks Against the Spread Preview for Thursday, October 20, 2016,: Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers
Opening Betting Line: Green Bay-9 Opening Betting Total: 47
Game time: 8:25 PM ET
Location: Lambeau Field
NFL expert picks insiders preview the Thursday night match up between the Green Bay Packerss and Chicago Bears as both teams are coming off home losses on a sort week. The Packers and Bears both come into this game will glaring issues but the most surprising problem is the play of Akron Rodgers who is coming off 294 yards passing verses the Dallas Cowboys that included one touchdown pass, an interception and a costly fumble in the red zone. Rodgers has his lowest completion percentage of his career this season and has been consistently missing wide open receivers all year causing this offense to sputter.
The Bears are starting journeyman quarterback Brian Hoyer who replaced Jake Cutler due to injury two weeks ago and actually performed well against a very poor Jacksonville Jaquar team passing for 302 yards on 30 out of 49 completions in a 17-16 loss in a game which they had the lead late into the fourth quarter. The bears who came into last weeks match up fourth in the league in yards per game due to the fact they have been playing from behind and facing prevent defenses all season was pleasantly surprised by the performance of wide receiver Cameron Meredith who had 11 catches for 113 receiving yards to follow up his previous week performance of 130 yards receiving and a touchdown. The play of the wide receivers including Pro Bowl wide out Alshon Jeffery could pose a threat to the Packers struggling secondary but without a run game they will be one dimensional against a touch Geeen Bay front seven and force Brian Hoyer into mistakes. Chicago’s run attack is led by Bears rookie running back Jordan Howard who only averaged 2.3 yards per carry on just 15 attempts against a bad Jacksonville defense.
Green Bay had 372 total yards verses the Cowboys but struggled to put the ball in the end as Arron Rodgers was only 1 out of 4 passing in the red zone with a fumble while the run game only had 78 yards rushing on 24 carries that included a banged up. Eddie Lacy, who only produced 65 rushing yards. Green Bay is only giving up 72.4 yards rousing which is third in the league although they were absolutely dominated by the league best offensive line and run game in the Dallas Cowboys who put up 191 yards rushing this past Sunday in Lambeau.
WHO WILL WIN?
The Green Bay Packers who are coming off a rare loss at home and a very lackluster performance by quarterback Aaron Rodgers who turned the ball over in key situations and was sampling missing targets will rebound from overall bad game from the offense and defense. The Bears are 30th in the league in scoring efficiency and will have to count on an inconsistent back up quarterback in Brian Hoyer to get the ball down the field without a run game which will spell a lot of three and outs and turnovers in this match up. The Bears who only were able to score 16 points at home against one of the leagues worst defenses last week that gave them multiple turnovers in which they couldn’t capitilize on will at best score 13 points. Rodgers and the Packers had opportunities to score more points last week but were there own worst enemy making costly mistakes but look for the Packers who scored 34 and 23 points a home this season before last week to bounce back with a much better offense performance. We expect Arron Rodgers to bounce back from his worst game of the season and lead the Packers to at least 24 points which is enough to covers against the 30th ranked offensive team in the NFL.
BETTING PREDICTION AGAINST THE SPREAD: Take PACKERS-9
