Thursday's CFL betting preview and odds: A doubleheader to open Week 2
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ricky Ray, who missed 15 games with shoulder issues in 2015, was handed the keys to the offence, but the veteran quarterback struggled in Week 1.

Ottawa Redblacks at Montreal Alouettes (pick, 54)

Ottawa looks to build on its impressive Week 1 victory when it makes the short trip to Montreal to face the Alouettes on Thursday. The Redblacks pulled out a thrilling 45-37 overtime victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in a rematch of the 2015 Grey Cup, but the win came at a cost as star quarterback Henry Burris suffered a finger injury and was placed on the one-game injured list.

Free agent acquisition Trevor Harris, who led the league with 33 touchdown passes last season with the Toronto Argonauts, filled in admirably for Burris and gets the start in Week 2 as the Redblacks hope to the beat the Alouettes for the fourth straight time after sweeping the season series in 2015. Montreal opened the season with a morale-boosting 22-14 victory on the road against Winnipeg after a tumultuous 2015 campaign, which saw the Alouettes miss the playoffs for the first time in 20 years. Veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn, who was acquired via a trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders late last season, showed the poise you'd expect from a 37-year-old while Montreal's defence came up big with five sacks, and the Alouettes' hope for a repeat performance as they search for their first victory over Ottawa since a 23-17 triumph Oct. 24, 2014. "I've got a lot of confidence in this group," Montreal wide receiver S.J. Green told reporters. "It feels like we're taking steps in the right direction."

          LINE HISTORY:
The point spread for this one opened at a Pick and remains a Pick two days after release. The total opened at 54 and has also not moved off the initial number. Check out the complete line history here.

          ABOUT THE REDBLACKS (1-0, 1-0 ATS, 1-0 O/U):
Burris, who was the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2015, went 23-of-31 for 251 yards and a touchdown before suffering an injury to his throwing finger midway through the third quarter. Harris completed his first nine passes, including a 71-scoring strike to Chris Williams on his first snap, and finished 17-of-19 for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Williams picked up where he left off last season as he caught eight passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns while Chris Milo kicked four field goals, including a career-long 55-yarder, which forced overtime.

          ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (1-0, 1-0 ATS, 0-1 O/U):
Glenn completed 30-of-42 passes for 332 yards and a touchdown and Brandon Bridge became the first Canadian-born quarterback to score a rushing TD in the CFL since Giulio Caravatta in 1996. Duron Carter was stellar in his Montreal return after spending last season with the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad as he caught eight passes for 96 yards, and had a touchdown nullified because of a holding call while Green had five receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown. Nik Lewis had six catches for 51 yards to move into ninth place (12,044) on the CFL's all-time receiving yards list.

          TRENDS:

          * RedBlacks are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
          * Alouettes are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games in Week 2.
          * Over is 7-1 in RedBlacks last 8 vs. East.
          * Under is 19-3 in Alouettes last 22 games in June.

          CONSENSUS:
58 percent of the public is picking the home team Alouettes and Over is grabbing 52 percent of the totals wagers. Check out full Consensus data here.

Toronto Argonauts at Saskatchewan Roughriders (-2.5, 51.5)

Saskatchewan looks to bounce back from a disastrous 2015 campaign when they open the season at home against Toronto on Thursday. The Roughriders fired coach Corey Chamblin and general manager Brendan Taman after an 0-9 start and finished the year 3-15, but pulled off a major coup in the offseason by luring Chris Jones, who won the Grey Cup with Edmonton in 2015, to Regina with the dual role of coach and general manager in an effort to turn the franchise's fortunes around.

Saskatchewan, which did not play in Week 1, welcomes back veteran quarterback Darian Durant, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in the opening week in 2015, and he hopes to rediscover the form that made him an all-star two seasons ago. The Argonauts are left to pick up the pieces after suffering a disappointing 42-20 setback to Hamilton in the first regular-season game at BMO Field. Ricky Ray, who missed 15 games with shoulder issues in 2015, was handed the keys to the offence after Trevor Harris was allowed to walk away in free agency, but the veteran quarterback struggled in Week 1 and hopes to improve as Toronto vies for its third straight victory against Saskatchewan after completing the season sweep in 2015. "I've got to play better throughout the whole game especially the first and second quarters," Ray told reporters. "We just have to play better if we want to be the team we can be."

          TV:
          10 p.m. ET, TSN, ESPN2

          LINE HISTORY:
The Roughriders opened as 2.5-point favorites at home and the line hasn't moved at the time this preview was published. The total opened at 51.5 and also hasn't moved. Check out the complete line history here.

          ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS (0-1, 0-1 ATS, 1-0 O/U):
Toronto safety Jermaine Gabriel was stretchered off the field after suffering what looked like a serious neck injury against the Tiger-Cats but the 26-year-old is expected to make a full recovery. Wide receiver Kevin Elliott, who had eight touchdown catches in 2015, suffered a dislocated shoulder and will be sidelined for at least two weeks while linebacker Marshall McFadden strained his MCL and will be out for a month. Wide receiver Vidal Hazelton seems poised to have a breakout year as the former USC Trojan caught seven passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns against Hamilton.

          ABOUT THE ROUGHRIDERS (2015: 3-15):
Durant struggled in his first action back since his injury as he went 11-of-19 for 153 yards and two interceptions in the 25-11 preseason loss to Edmonton. "It's not about me it's about this team and us getting better each and every week," Durant told reporters. "Hopefully I'm there through the whole process." Saskatchewan beefed up its defensive line by bringing in free agents Justin Capicciotti and Shawn Lemon, who combined to record 18 sacks with Ottawa last season and upgraded its linebacker corps by adding 2015 East Division all-star Greg Jones.

          TRENDS:

          * Argonauts are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
          * Roughriders are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in June.
          * Under is 6-1 in Argonauts last 7 games overall.
          * Over is 6-1 in Roughriders last 7 games in Week 2.
          * Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.

          CONSENSUS:
The home favorite Riders are picking up 65 percent of the Consensus picks and Over 51.5 is grabbing 57 percent of the totals wagers.

            B.C. Lions at Hamilton Tiger-Cats (-6, 50.5)

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats look to win their fourth straight home opener when they welcome the BC Lions to Tim Hortons Field on Friday. The Tiger-Cats opened the season in impressive fashion as they posted a 42-20 victory over Toronto, and hope to pick up where they left off by beating the Lions for the fourth consecutive time at home.

Jeremiah Masoli proved to be an adequate replacement for injured star quarterback Zach Collaros, throwing for 318 yards and three touchdowns against the Argos, and looks to pick apart a Lions' defence that struggled in Hamilton's 52-22 win on Aug. 15, 2015. Wally Buono made a triumphant return to the sideline as he guided BC to a 20-18 comeback victory over Calgary. Buono, who is the winningest coach in CFL history, seemed to be heading for a defeat in his first game back since winning the Grey Cup with the Lions in 2011, but Chris Rainey returned a punt 72 yards for the go-ahead touchdown and BC hopes to ride that momentum to its first win at Hamilton since July, 18, 2014. "When you look at Rainey's return that was the difference maker," Buono told reporters. "Going into Hamilton is always going to be tough but if we want to be a championship calibre team we need to win those kind of games."

            TV:
            7 p.m. ET, TSN

            LINE HISTORY:
The Tiger-Cats opened this matchup favored by a converted touchdown at home. They have been bet down slightly to the current number of -6. The total has also been bet down slightly, going from the opening number of 51 to the current number of 50.5. Check out the complete line history here.

            ABOUT THE LIONS (1-0, 1-0 ATS, 0-1 O/U):
Jonathon Jennings, who was expected to share snaps with veteran Travis Lulay, played every down but missed several throws downfield as he finished 24-of-42 for 248 yards and no touchdowns in the win over Calgary. Linebacker Solomon Elimimian - the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2014 - recorded three tackles in his first game since rupturing his Achilles tendon on Aug. 15, 2015. Special teams ace Rainey, who had two 103-yard kick-return scores against Calgary last season, scored two touchdowns, including a 1-yard jet sweep en route to 157 total yards in Week 1.

            ABOUT THE TIGER-CATS (1-0, 1-0 ATS, 1-0 O/U):
Hamilton added former Notre Dame and Florida State quarterback Everett Golson to the practice squad Monday after third-string QB Jacory Harris was placed on the six-game injured list last week. "He's a talented athlete with a strong arm and can also pull down the ball and run," Hamilton coach Kent Austin told reporters. "He played at a high level in college and we'll see how quickly he can pick things up." Simoni Lawrence was named one of the CFL Top Performers of the Week after recording seven tackles, two sacks and an interception return for a touchdown in the win over the Argos.

            TRENDS:

            * Lions are 1-7 ATS in their last eight Week 2 games.
            * Tiger-Cats are 1-5 ATS in their last six games versus a team with a winning record.
            * Under is 4-0 in Lions last four games overall.
            * Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings.

            CONSENSUS:
The public is siding with the favorite in this all-cat matchup with 63 percent of wagers backing the Tiger-cats. As far as the total is concerned, bettors think it will be a high scoring affair with 57 percent of wagers on the Over 50.5.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Calgary Stampeders (-10, 49)

The Calgary Stampeders look to bounce back from their first season-opening loss in five years when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday. The Stampeders blew an 11-point lead in the 20-18 setback against BC to spoil Dave Dickenson's coaching debut, and they hope to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time since July of 2012.

"This is my first time losing a season opener since I've been here," Calgary defensive back Fred Bennett told reporters. "It should be a wakeup call and I hope this loss puts some fire behind us and we go in the right direction from here." Winnipeg's slew of free-agent signings failed to produce the desired results as they dropped a disappointing 22-14 decision to Montreal in Week 1. The Blue Bombers created a buzz around the league with the additions of all-stars Andrew Harris, Weston Dressler and Justin Medlock but the new-look offence failed to live up to the pre-season hype and Winnipeg fell to its 22nd loss in its last 28 games dating back to 2014. "Of course you want to come out with a win but I don't think there's any dampening of enthusiasm," Winnipeg defensive end Jamaal Westerman told reporters. "It's only a damper that we didn't get the win."

            TV:
            10 p.m. ET, TSN, ESPN2

            LINE HISTORY:
The Stamps opened as big 8.5-point home favorites, but bettors still didn't think that was enough with the line moving all the way to -10. The total has been bet down slightly, moving from 49.5 to the current number of 49. Check out the complete line history here.

            ABOUT THE BLUE BOMBERS (0-1, 0-1 ATS, 0-1 O/U):
Dressler caught three passes for 22 yards before being knocked out of the game in the first quarter with a head injury but Winnipeg coach Mike O'Shea is hopeful that he will be cleared to face the Stampeders. Harris, who was born in Winnipeg, was one of the lone bright spots as he rushed for 80 yards in his Blue Bombers' debut and Medlock connected on a 58-yard field goal in the loss to the Alouettes. Winnipeg added former New Orleans Saints' defensive back Terrence Frederick to the practice squad on Monday in an attempt to shore up the secondary.

            ABOUT THE STAMPEDERS (0-1, 0-1 ATS, 0-1 O/U):
Calgary kicker Rene Paredes, who made 41-of-47 attempts last season, missed two field goals including a potential game-tying kick from 43 yards with 3:43 remaining in the fourth quarter against the Lions. Kamar Jorden had the most productive game of his CFL career as he caught three passes for 73 yards and a touchdown while Lemar Durant had two receptions for 56 yards before suffering an ankle injury in the third quarter. Former Oklahoma Sooners' star Roy Finch impressed in his debut as he finished with 89 kick return yards, including a 59-yard sprint that set up a touchdown in the third quarter.

            TRENDS:
