Taking Morehead State -2 at UT-Martin. Realize this is a rough road trip and the Skyhawks have had a week to prepare for this one since busting their conference cherry last Thursday against Tenny State. But Morehead has the bulk of their squad back from last season's team that swept the Skyhawks. At 4-2, Morehead stands alone in third and knows that a win here is imperative for them to set up the showdown with Murray on Saturday.
Morehead won just 80-78 in the teams' first meeting at home on Jan. 10, but I think the Eagles were suffering a hangover after the 97-75 drubbing Murray laid on them two days earlier, as they trailed 43-32 at halftime.
In that game, Morehead shot just 3-for-16 from threes and had just 8 assists to 21 for UTM. Still, they were able to overcome and prevail.
Most importantly, this was the only game all year that their Marks or Minard hasn't led the team in scoring. MSU got DD scoring from five players, but it was Quinton Smith leading the way with 17. Minard, Marks and McKnight each had 12 points and Lewis had 10.
Bottom line: Gimmehead's potent duo will NOT be held to 24 points on 9-for-24 shooting again.
They are the better team, and I expect Kyle Macy to fully focus them for the task at hand tonight.
