10* Houston (+26) vs louisville---->Why is the line 26?? Not only are they without pitino, but without garcia and dean too!!!!! This line would only be 28 if both were playing and Garcia is by far their best player while dean is their main threat from the outside, and they have all the other distractions we know about. Basically, the linesmaker is saying that Houston is so bad that it does not matter if garcia and dean are out...........sometimes it does not matter, like in the case of wisconsin with tucker, but when your best player is out, and he is the player that makes the team go, it has to be worth about 10 points.........plus, what is the motivation here??? a win is a win in this sport and their is no revenge or anything to get lousiville up for this.. They just came off games against cincy and tennessee on the road, their next 2 games are marquette and memphis on the road, so there is zero reason for louisville to do anything but show up in this. Obviously Houston is bad but they are not atrociuos, they did beat LSU and washington and should be able to keep this below 20.........
7* Northern Iowa (-7.5)vs. Illinois state----->Northern Iowa is hot with 4 wins in a row coming in and they have a very exciting team. Unlike creighton, southern illinois, and swmsu, northern iowa is never this good so they should not have a let down in any game. They have already beaten Iowa and Creighton at home and they know thatthis conference is capable of getting 2 teams in the tourney. This game is for 2nd place in the conference and the line is low here b/c the assumption is that they will be looking ahead to their game at southern illinois on saturday. But i am going to assume their coach will get the point across that if they lose this, that game is irrelevant. This game is very relevant and this team has a shot at the conference crown b/c they are down 2 games to Sou. Ill. and have not played them once yet. Illinois state is not wuite as bad as their record but i think they are on of those teams that the opponent does not ever get up for. I assume No. Iowa will be up here.
5* Wichita state (-1.5) vs sou. ill--->sou. ill. is good, but 9-0 in conference?? i doubt it..........from what i have seen, they may be the best team in the conference, but better teams usually have 2 or 3 losses in coference and i think this is loss #1. Wichita state was supposed to be better than they are but have been playing better of late. Last time these 2 played at Sou. Ill. , wichita led early and was in the game pretty much throughout but never got close enough to make serious run. Home court turns this around and wichita state should prevail.
other opinions::
Miss. state (-10.5) vs. tennessee--->tenn's best player is hurt although it has not seemed to effect him..tenn. is off back-to-back heartbreaking home losses and unless i am missing soimething, mississippi state is playing for a #1 or #2 seed.....this team is awesome
BC (+12.5) vs. pitt---->i really loved this at first sight, but a closer look at BC scared me off a bit.........i still like bc, almost enough to play it as a 5 * for no other reason but for the fact that pitt is so ready for a let down, but with their young coach and all that defensive energy, i think pit may still get near the number........BC's teams have been so odd the last couple of years as smith seems to have replaced troy bell as the guy that scores 20+ every game, but against a team like pitt, he may get shut down...........man, this sounds like a play on pitt but it isn't, still think BC stayswithin
