Game of the Day: Michigan State at Michigan
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michigan has recorded three consecutive shutouts heading into its meeting with Michigan State Saturday afternoon.

Michigan State Spartans at Michigan Wolverines (-7, 41.5)

Michigan has pushed its way back into the national spotlight with three straight shutouts and looks to continue its impressive run when fourth-ranked Michigan State visits for a Big Ten showdown on Saturday. The 14th-ranked Wolverines have allowed only 14 points total in five consecutive victories since losing to Utah in first-year coach Jim Harbaugh’s debut on Sept. 3.

It’s the first time Michigan has strung together three straight shutouts in the same season since 1980 and the Wolverines stand second in the nation in total defense (181.3 yards per game). That unit will be challenged by a Michigan State squad which has won 10 consecutive games and is led by quarterback Connor Cook, who is 29-3 as a starter in his career – 18-1 against Big Ten schools. The Spartans are averaging almost 400 yards of offense and have won six of the last seven games in the series. “We need to play better at certain points,” Michigan State Mark Dantonio told reporters. “But we are undefeated, we’ve found a way to win football games; that’s the bottom line.”

        TV:
        3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.

        LINE HISTORY:
Books opened the Wolverines -6.5, but that's moved to -7. The total is up to 41.5 from the opening 40.

        WHAT CAPPERS SAY:
"The Spartans are still undefeated, but recent wins over Purdue and Rutgers were not very convincing. They have a tough test ahead as they take on the Wolverines at the Big House this Saturday. The Wolverines are coming off three straight shutouts, and two of those games were against Top 25 teams."

        ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE (6-0 SU, 0-6 SU, 2-4 O/U):
The Spartans hope to get standout left tackle Jack Conklin (knee) and tight end Josiah Price (leg, four touchdowns) back for Michigan, but running back Madre London (ankle) is out indefinitely. Tailback Delton Williams, who was expecting to redshirt, has been activated to back up starter LJ Scott (418 rushing yards, six TDs) along with Gerald Holmes. Cook has thrown for 12 touchdowns with only two interceptions this year and his top target is Aaron Burbridge (34 catches, 560 yards, four TDs).

        ABOUT MICHIGAN (5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS, 1-5 O/U):
The Wolverines have coupled their stingy defense with a balanced offense that is averaging 201.3 yards rushing and 189.2 through the air. Jake Rudock tossed three interceptions in the opener at Utah and has three in five games since while completing 62 percent of his passes overall and De’Veon Smith (390 yards rushing) leads the ground attack. Linebacker Joe Bolden keys a balanced defense with 38 tackles while lineman Willie Henry had two of his four sacks against Northwestern last week in a 38-0 win.

Best ATS team in the nation back in action Saturday

The Central Michigan Chippewas head into Week 7 of the college football schedule as the best team against the spread with a 6-0 record.

The Chippewas are just 2-4 straight up but have kept games incredibly close when looking at the closing number. They've covered as dogs of 21, 8, 25.5, 1 and 5 points and as a 20.5-point favorite against Monmouth in Week 2.

This week, the Chippewas host the Buffalo Bulls as 5.5-point home faves after opening -7. CMU defeated Buffalo 20-14 as a 3.5-point road fave last season.

Memphis Tigers riding 12-game winning streak

The Memphis Tigers are one of the hottest teams in the country, bringing a 12-game winning streak into their meeting with the Ole Miss Rebels Saturday afternoon.

Despite the sizzling hot SU streak, however, the Tigers are just a lukewarm 6-5-1 against the spread over those previous dozen games.

Memphis is 5-0 SU so far this season and are 2-2-1 ATS. The Tigers dropped back-to-back games ATS before forcing a push as 7-point road faves at South Florida in Week 5 heading into the bye week.

This week, the Tigers host the Ole Miss Rebels as 10.5-point home underdogs.

Two Tar Heels charged with assault

North Carolina cornerbacks M.J. Stewart and Mike Hughes have been indefinitely suspended from the program after being charged with misdemeanor assault.

The charges stem from an incident outside a campus fraternity house in the early morning hours of Oct. 4.

Stewart, a sophomore starter, was charged with assault and battery. Hughes, a freshman reserve, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon/inflicting serious injury.

The suspensions were termed as being for a violation of team rules.

"We have been aware of this situation since the night of the altercation and have been working closely with the University and Chapel Hill Police to gather relevant information," coach Larry Fedora said in a statement. "We hold our players to a high standard, and M.J. and Mike will face the consequences for their involvement."

Stewart leads the Tar Heels with three interceptions.

Essential Week 7 betting tips for college football's top games

Two of the top five offenses in the nation will square off Saturday when No. 12 Ole Miss visits No. 22 Memphis.

Searching for some quick-hitting betting notes to help you cap Saturday's top college football games? Look no further. We break down all the need-to-know facts and figures for Saturday's Top 25 NCAAF contests.

Eastern Michigan Eagles at (25) Toledo Rockets (-28, 60)

              * The Eagles come in off a 47-21 home loss to Akron, the third straight opponent to score at least 44 points.

              * The Rockets rank No. 2 in the nation in red zone defense, holding opponents to just a touchdown and three field goals on 13 trips inside the 20-yard line (30.8 percent).

West Virginia Mountaineers at (2) Baylor Bears (-21, 75)

              * The Mountaineers are beginning a two-game stretch as tough as any team will see this season with a trip to No. 3 TCU coming up next week and need to be more careful with the football after committing a total of nine turnovers in losses to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

              * Baylor’s average margin of victory of 42 points leads FBS. The Bears head in 3-1 ATS (one game had no line) and have covered the spread in three consecutive games.

Louisville Cardinals at (8) Florida State Seminoles (-7.5, 46)

              * Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is third in the nation among freshmen with a team-best 435 rushing yards, but has struggled passing with a 53.2 completion rate, three touchdowns and four interceptions.

              * Florida State quarterback Everett Golson has eight touchdowns with zero interceptions in 2015 and has thrown 151 passes without a pick dating to last season as Florida State remains the only team in the nation without an offensive turnover.

              (12) Ole Miss Rebels at (22) Memphis Tigers (+10.5, 70)

              * Ole Miss topped Memphis, 24-3, last season, holding the Tigers to 104 yards of offense. The closing line of Ole Miss -21 resulted in a push for Rebels backers.

              * Memphis is riding a 12-game winning streak - the third-longest active run in the country - and has had 15 days to prepare for this contest. Despite the hot SU streak, the Tigers are just 6-5-1 ATS over those last 12.

              (17) Iowa Hawkeyes at (21) Northwestern Wildcats (+1.5, 41)

              * Iowa is one of only three FBS schools that has allowed only one rushing touchdown this season.

              * Northwestern and Iowa are meeting as ranked teams for the first time since 1996, when the Wildcats pounded the Hawkeyes 40-13 en route to a share of the Big Ten title. Northwestern covered as 6-point pups in that matchup.

              (4) Michigan State Spartans at (14) Michigan Wolverines (-7.5, 41.5)

              * The Spartans have gone 6-1 straight up and 7-0 against the spread in the previous seven meetings with their in-state rival. The Spartans lost 12-10 in 2012, but covered as 8.5-point road underdogs.

              * The 14th-ranked Wolverines have allowed only 14 points total in five consecutive victories (including three-straight shutouts) since losing to Utah in first-year coach Jim Harbaugh’s debut on Sept. 3.

              (19) Oklahoma Sooners at Kansas State Wildcats (+3.5, 54.5)

              * Oklahoma has won all five trips to Kansas State by double digits under coach Bob Stoops. The Sooners are 4-1 ATS in those five games.

              * The Wildcats have squandered double-digit leads in back-to-back games, losing to undefeated Oklahoma State and TCU on late scores.

              (9) Alabama Crimson Tide at (10) Texas A&M Aggies (+4, 53)

              * Alabama failed to contain an up-tempo attack in a loss to Ole Miss earlier this season and struggled with Texas A&M when Johnny Maziel was running Kevin Sumlin’s offense to perfection in previous seasons. “It's going to be a real challenge for us to be able to cover them and keep them cut off and not give them plays down the field," Nick Saban told reporters.

              * Aggies quarterback Kyle Allen was at his best in the first two SEC games and totaled 680 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in wins over Arkansas and Mississippi State.

              (3) TCU Horned Frogs at Iowa State Cyclones (+20.5, 73.5)

              * Third-ranked TCU has scored 50 or more points in each of its past five games and while 5-0 SU in those games, it is just 2-3 ATS.

              * Iowa State redshirt freshman Mike Warren has been electric with 574 rushing yards and an 8.1 average and he had 245 yards against Texas Tech, eighth-most in school history.

Boston College Eagles at (6) Clemson Tigers (-15.5, 37.5)

              * The Boston College offensive attack bottomed out in a 3-0 loss - its second shutout defeat in four weeks - last Saturday at home against Wake Forest. The Eagles missed two field goals, committed four turnovers and had the ball on the Demon Deacons' 1-yard line as the game ended.

              * The Tigers look to improve to 6-0 and achieve the longest home winning streak in school history (14) when they welcome Boston College to Death Valley on Saturday night. Clemson is 9-4 ATS during its home winning streak.

              (11) Florida Gators at (5) LSU Tigers (-7, 46)

              * Not having quarterback Will Grier, who tested positive for performance enhancing drugs, is a blow to the Florida offense, and the Gators’ defense will have its hands full trying to slow down sophomore Leonard Fournette -- the nation’s leading rusher.

              * LSU finished with 624 yards of total offense at South Carolina last week, its third-highest total against a SEC opponent since 1960.

USC Trojans at (13) Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-6.5, 61)

              * The USC-Notre Dame game is annually a highlight for each of the two programs, though the battle on the field is being overshadowed a bit by some off-the-field turmoil. The Trojans will play their first game under interim coach Clay Helton after the firing of Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian is reportedly battling an alcohol addiction, and several alcohol-related incidents led to his being dismissed early this week.

              * Notre Dame bounced back nicely from its first loss by cruising past Navy 41-24 last weekend and is trying to stay in the hunt for a College Football Playoff berth.

Penn State Nittany Lions at (1) Ohio State Buckeyes (-19, 47)

              * Senior defensive end Carl Nassib leads the nation with 10 sacks - Penn State also is tops in the country with 25 as a team - and sophomore middle linebacker Jason Cabinda (team-best 46 tackles) and junior defensive tackle Austin Johnson (7.5 tackles for losses) also star on the defensive side.

              * The Buckeyes will attempt to extend their record of consecutive Big Ten wins to 27 Saturday. Ohio State is just 13-12-1 ATS in the previous 26.

Arizona State Sun Devils at (7) Utah Utes (-6.5, 56)

              * Arizona State is 20-6 against the Utes and won last season's matchup 19-16 in overtime. The Sun Devils have won 12-straight meetings and are 2-2 ATS in four meetings since the Utes joined the Pac-12.

              * The Utes rely on standout senior running back Devontae Booker, who racked up 222 yards against Cal and has 665 on the season. “I don’t really care if it was a breakout game for me," Booker told reporters. "I was just doing my job to help my team win.”

According to weather forecasts, there is a 50 percent chance of rain showers in southern Florida when the Miami Hurricanes host the Virginia Tech Hokies Saturday afternoon.

Temperatures in Miami will be in the low-80s with wind blowing across the field at around 10 miles per hour.

At present, the The U is a 3-point home favorite with books offering the total at 51.5.

Unbeaten Spartans have been awful wager

The Michigan State Spartans head into their Week 7 clash with the Michigan Wolverines with a perfect 6-0 record straight up, but at the betting window, they've been a dismal wager.

The Spartans have yet to cover a spread this season, bringing at 0-6 ATS mark into Ann Arbor.

They've been faves of 12 points or greater in five of their six games so far this season and are presently 6.5-point road dogs at the red-hot Wolverines.

Toledo's defense making it a great under bet

The Toledo Rockets head into Week 7 as one of the top Under wagers in college football, sporting an 0-5 Over/Under mark ahead of their meeting with Eastern Michigan Saturday afternoon.

Toledo ranks No. 1 in the MAC in both scoring defense (11.8) and rushing defense (89.0) and ranks No. 2 in the nation in red zone defense, holding opponents to just a touchdown and three field goals on 13 trips inside the 20-yard line (30.8 percent).

The Rockets are presently big 28.5-point home favorites for Saturday's meeting with the Eagles. The total is currently tabbed at 60.

Stoops' Sooners a good wager in Kansas State trips

The Oklahoma Sooners have won all five trips to Kansas State by double digits under coach Bob Stoops and the Sooners are 4-1 against the spread in those five games.

The Sooners' last visit to Manhattan was 2013 when they won 41-31 and covered as 5.5-point road pups.

The one cover by Kansas State was back in 2004. The Wildcats were tabbed as 20-point home dogs but managed to cover in a 31-21 defeat.

This time around, the Sooners are 4-point road favorites.
