* Watch out for NSA - they are 0-5 on their big picks this week....
Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh? Oh, it looks good on you though.
Northcoast "Amazing Super Bowl System" is on the Patriots. It appears in Steele's pre-season football scorebook. I ran the numbers myself. The system is a back-tested one. In other words, it hasn't been making picks all these years. What he has done is created a numerical formula that rewards teams with characteristics of past super bowl winners. For example, it gives a lot of weight to controlling the line of scrimmage with states like best rushing average on both offense and defense. It also gives weight to Super Bowl experience. Last year, by the way, was one of its losers as it had Tampa.
I'm not a big beleiver in back-tested systems---the stuff that guiys like Big Al rely upon---but this formula does seem to try to measure the kinds of things that were typical of the team that has won the game.
