Ok guys for those interested I go to Iona and this article or parts of it I will type in now is from the Ionian school newspaper about the men's basketball team.
Things keep getting worse for the Ione mane's basketball team.
To go along with a 5-11 record, the Gaels learned Tuesday that starting senior foward Steve Smith was ruled academically ineligible.
"I knew the process was going on and it didn't look good," said coach Ruland. "It didn't come as a shock. He put himself in this position. It's not like it came out of left field."
Smith, who is no longer enrolled at Iona, was averaging 10.6 PPG and 5.5 rebounds per game this season.
With Smith on hand for practice Wednesday morning, the coaches told the team the news. After suffering a hand injury Monday night against Siena, Smith would have missed play anyway, but losing him for the season creates a void along side senior center Greg Jenkins.
"It's just one of those things," Ruland said. "Most of the guys realized it could happen because it happened to Charles Henson."
Replacing Smith will be 6-foot-6, 225 pound FRESHMAN Anthony Bruin, who Ruland said will get his first career start against St. Peter's.
Another article has coach Ruland saying this about his team.
"It doesn't atter because we don't play for 40 minutes. It's fools gold when you lose by 3. It'snot going to change until guys are willing to change. "
Steve Smith was taken on record as saying, "I'm used to it now. It doesn't bother me anymore."
Hell I would be bothered by a 5-11 record, dropping games left and right. This just goes to show how focused the team really is. My source on the team was disgusted when he read and showed me this article on the team. I wonder how the team will react as they leave at 4 pm today after a full day of classes for their game at St Peter's....
