  • Wednesday NCAA Hoops......

Had a good night on Tuesday going 4-2-1. These are my plays for Wednesday night............

2 STAR: OKLAHOMA STATE (-6) OVER Oklahoma

The No. 11 Sooners brought an undefeated record to Connecticut on Sunday, but were routed 86-59 by the top-ranked Huskies. Oklahoma shot just 27.4 percent in a game it trailed by 40 points in the second half. This young team has to have some doubts in their head as they now go to battle their hated rival the Oklahoma State Cowboys. If they though playing at UCONN was tough, wait until this game, home court advantage is huge in this game as the home team has won six straight and is 5-1 against the spread in that span. Also note that the unranked team is favored by six points against a ranked team with one loss, seems a bit high, but did'nt Oklahoma getting 12 at UCONN seem high also? Lay the wood here!

2 STAR: PURDUE (-2) OVER Wisconsin

The Boilermakers are only 2-2 in their last four games, all on the road, but I look for them to come up big tonight against the Badgers. Purdue has played very well against ranked teams this season, they are 2-1 in those games, recording road wins over then-No. 2 Duke and Illinois and losing to then-No. 11 Oklahoma. Wisconsin has played very well posting an 11-2 overall record, but they are only 1-2 on the road this season and travel to a place where they have had NO success. Home court is a HUGE advantage in this game as he 19th-ranked Badgers have lost 28 in a row at West Lafayette since an 84-65 victory on Feb. 15, 1972! Lay the points with the Boilers here as they look to crack the top 25 once again next week!

2 STAR: TENNESSEE (-1) OVER Vanderbilt

The 23rd-ranked Commodores opened this season with 12 straight wins, but that came to an end Saturday with a 75-63 loss at No. 5 Kentucky. The game at Kentucky was only their third road game of the season, and their first one against a good team, they previously had beaten Belmont and TCU on the road. Now Vandy must face a Tennessee team that they have not had much success against in the past that is coming in off of a conference loss. Tennessee is 13-4 against the spread after a loss against a conference rival over the last 3 seasons and they are a solid 34-17 against the spread when playing a team with a winning record over the last three seasons. The Vols are 4-1-1 against the spread in the last six meetings with Vandy and Tennessee won both meetings with Vanderbilt last season. Tennessee is also 61-15 in the series when playing in Knoxville. Home court advantage is big here, take the Vols!

1 STAR: CONNECTICUT (-18) OVER Georgetown

Don't let the Hoyas 10-2 record make you jump on taking the big points in this game. Georgetown got off to a 10-0 start this season, feasting on mainly cupcakes, but have now dropped two straight games when they faced stiffer competition from Boston College and West Virginia. The Hoyas are about to run into a buzz saw in this game, as UCONN comes in clicking on all cylinders fresh off of their best performance of the season in a 86-59 whipping of then undefeated Oklahoma. The Hoyas should have a hard time scoring points in this game. Georgetown is a poor shooting team and the Huskies play great defense only allowing their opponents to shoot 36% from the floor. Connecticut has won four straight against Georgetown and they are 4-2 against the spread in those games, I look for them to win this one in blowout fashion. Since this is a conference game, I am not worried about the Huskies looking ahead to Saturday's big game against North Carolina, they will be focused and I'll lay the wood here!

1 STAR: MARYLAND (-2) OVER North Carolina

North Carolina is off to a great start this year under Roy Williams, but winning on the ACC road is still very tough, especially against the elite teams in the conference and the Tar Heels are only 1-7 against the spread in January road games over the last three seasons. Maryland is a very young team, with five freshmen and four sophomores getting the bulk of the playing time, the Terps will be inconsistent this year, but they have looked excellent at times in the early season against ranked opponents. Maryland beat Wisconsin and then-No. 1 Florida in overtime before falling to Gonzaga. The Terps are 14-5 against the spread when playing a team with a winning record over the last three seasons and they are 19-8 against the spread as a home favorite over the last three seasons. Maryland has also had the upper hand in this series, winning and covering the spread in 4 out of the last 5 meetings. I like the Terps to get it done here at home!

    2003-2004 NCAA BASKETBALL RECORD

    5 STAR RECORD 13-11 (+4.5 UNITS)
    3 STAR RECORD 15-12-1 (+3.0 UNITS)
    2 STAR RECORD 55-49-4 (+2.6 UNITS)
    1 STAR RECORD 35-26-2 (+6.0 UNITS)

    OVERALL RECORD 118-98-7 (+16.1 UNITS)
    A $100 player would be up $1610.00

    Good luck,
    John
