    Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

-- Casey McGehee is 4-7 with two walks this season after Giancarlo Stanton is walked intentionally ahead of him.

-- Burke Badenhop has thrown 30 consecutive scoreless innings for the Red Sox; Koji Uehara had a 33.2 inning scoreless streak for Boston last year.

-- Bronson Arroyo is on DL for first time in his 15-year career (369 starts).

-- Orioles' catcher Matt Wieters is having Tommy John surgery Tuesday, is out for the year, obviously.

-- Matt Holliday got his 1,000th career RBI last night. Terrific hitter.

-- Tony Gwynn was 39-91 with ten walks against Greg Maddux; no strikeouts. Maddux was one of the best pitchers of all-time.

    **********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend.......

    13) RIP Mr Tony Gwynn.

One of the greatest hitters of all-time, he also played college hoop and coached baseball at San Diego State. Gwynn pioneered the use of videotape study in hitting, was a true student of the game, also seemed like a good guy when he was announcing games on TV. It is also unsettling to see someone pass away who is the same age I am. RIP, sir.

    12) Jimmy Rollins set the all-time hit record for the Phillies’ franchise this weekend, then changed his tune and said he would be open to a trade if the team was going to rebuild- he really wanted that record.

    11) Rollins’ 2015 option (at big bucks, $15M I think) kicks in if he gets to 434 plate appearances this season; as of Sunday, he had 280, so whomever he gets traded to will commit to him for this year and next.

    10) San Antonio Spurs shot 52.8% from the floor in the NBA Finals, highest any team has ever shot in the Finals. An impressive display of team basketball and taking advantage of an opponent that just seemed to be tired.

    9) Cleveland Indians are 27-20 vs right handed starting pitchers, 8-15 vs lefties.

    8) Zach Johnson got a hole-in-one Sunday on the 9th hole, just the second ace in the three Pinehurst US Opens. Other one was by Peter Jacobsen in 2005, also on the 9th hole; funny thing is, both guys were paired with Kenny Perry when they got their aces, nine years apart.

    7) 13 Division I basketball teams are taking trips to the Bahamas in August; the biggest benefit to coaches are the ten extra practices that are allowed before a trip like that. These trips are a great benefit, unless someone gets hurt during them (ask USC or Butler about that).

    6) Travis D’Arnaud is down in AAA learning how to hit again; he’s 12 for his first 29 down there, with five homers in seven games. The hitting coach at Las Vegas is George Greer, who spent 17 years as the baseball coach at Wake Forest; he’s an older gent who has had to repair of lot of damaged psyches already this season, with so many players shuffling between Flushing and Las Vegas.

    5) While with the Mets this season, D’Arnaud came to bat with 105 men on base, but knocked only six of them in. This is not good, which is why he is back in AAA, they say for at least 50-60 at-bats.

    4) There are three major league position players who have batted 100+ times this season and have yet to knock in a runner from third base: James Jones (0-10), Ryan Kalish (0-9) and Craig Gentry (0-7).

    3) Batters who have come to bat with the most men on base this season, and percentage of runners they’ve knocked in: Alvarez (222, 10.8%), Encarnacion (221, 15.4%), Pukols (210, 11.9%), McGehee (209, 19.0%).

    2) Batters with 100+ plate appearances who’ve knocked in highest percentage of runners this season: Miguel Cabrera 29.1%, Charlie Blackmon 24.4%, Hector Sanchez 23.9%, Danny Santana 23.2%.

    1) Kawhi Leonard is just the sixth player to win NBA Finals MVP without having been an All-Star earlier that season; first person to do it was Willis Reed in 1973. Chauncey Billups was most recent to do it before this year, back in ’04.

              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tuesday's MLB betting cheat sheet: Darvish strong as a narrow fave
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

              Pushy New Yorkers

The New York Mets continue to be the masters of the pushing, earning their 11th of the year in Monday's 6-2 loss to the host St. Louis Cardinals (-162). The Mets lead the league in pushes by four, and had just six pushes all of last season.

              KC Eights

The Kansas City Royals (+136) broke out the bats yet again, extending their winning streak to a season-best eight games with an 11-8 triumph over the host Detroit Tigers. The Royals are 6-2 O/U during the streak, averaging seven runs per game over that span.

              Yu The Man

Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish has been one of the league's strongest narrow favorites so far in 2014. Darvish is listed at -109 for the Rangers' game against host Oakland; Texas is a perfect 6-0 so far this season when Darvish is installed as a favorite of less than -120.

              Pitching Notes

              * Minnesota starter Phil Hughes looks to build on his league-leading value total as he leads the Twins (+137, 8.5) into Boston for a date with the Red Sox. Hughes has earned a whopping $1,050 so far, with the Twins having won his last eight starts as an underdog.

              * Houston left-hander Dallas Keuchel looks to continue a pair of trends Tuesday as the Astros (+115, 7) face the host Washington Nationals. Keuchel is 6-1 against the moneyline over the last seven games while going 1-5-1 O/U over that span.

              Hitting Notes

              * Royals shortstop Omar Infante has been one of the catalysts for Kansas City during its eight-game run, batting .400 with a homer and seven RBIs in his previous seven contests. The Royals are 13-4 SU in games in which Infante drives in at least one run going into Tuesday's tilt with Detroit (-148, 8).

              * Dodgers outfielder Dee Gordon went 4-for-4 in Monday's 6-1 win over Colorado, marking his first multi-hit effort since June 6. Los Angeles is 10-8 against the moneyline and 9-7-2 O-U in games in which Gordon records more than one hit entering Tuesday's game against the Rockies (+170, 7).

              Totals Streak

Atlanta Braves (5-1-1 O/U): The Braves have been one of the safest Under bets at home all season but are reversing that trend on their latest homestand, improving to 3-1 O/U in a 6-1 loss to Philadelphia. Atlanta is 27-38-4 O/U on the year.

              Prop of the Day

After a brief period where the bats went silent, the Toronto Blue Jays are slowly but surely starting to hit again. One thing they've been doing consistently is getting on the board first. The Jays have scored first in three-straight ball games and are -125 (Bet365) to do so against the New York Yankees Tuesday.

              Injury Notes

              * Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters will undergo Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow and will miss the remainder of the season. The Orioles are 17-21 SUU, 18-20 O/U and -451 units for the season with Wieters on the sidelines.

              * Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick is aiming for a June 24 return from a hyperextended knee. Reddick has been out of the lineup since late May; the Athletics are 8-6 SU and 6-7-1 O/U in his absence.

              Weather Watch

              * Wind at Fenway Park will blow out to center field at 6 mph for Tuesday's game between host Boston (-152, 8.5) and Minnesota. The Red Sox were 4-2 SU and 1-5 O/U in six games under similar conditions in 2013; teams combined to score 8.5 runs, well below the stadium average of 9.04.

              Umpire Note of the Day

The home team is 6-1 in umpire Tom Hallion's previous seven games calling balls and strikes. Hallion will be behind home plate for Tuesday's game between the Royals and host Tigers.

Check out baseball's best bet against the runline

Another week of action on the diamond and another week of away dogs against the runline continuing to cash for bettors at a high rate.

Away dogs against the runline continue to be baseball's best bet, hitting at a mark of almost 63 percent for the season.

Monday night was no exception, with road dogs going 7-2.

A great night to back underdogs on diamond

It was a great night to back underdogs against the runline in major league baseball action.

Underdogs went an incredible 9-2 against the runline on the Monday night, hitting at a ridiculous mark of almost 82 percent. Underdogs have been a successful bet just over 60 percent of the time this season.

                Hitter's wind in Cleveland

Mother Nature will be giving hitters a hand in Tuesday's meeting between the Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field: Forecasts are calling for gusts of up to 14 mph blowing out to right.

There is a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms for the AL matchup. Matt Shoemaker (3-1, 4.19 ERA) takes the mound for the Angels, while the Indians counter with Josh Tomlin (4-3, 3.33 ERA). Cleveland is currently -109 faves with a total of nine.
