San Francisco 49ers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The current line on this contest is Tampa Bay –6. The Buccaneers put an emphasis on winning home field for the playoffs this season, and they did manage to land a #2 seed, putting them at home for at least this game.
Tampa Bay allowed the fewest points in the NFL this season, surrendering just 12.3 points per game. This stellar defensive unit should be further inspired by the fact that they are playing their first home playoff game in over 3 years after getting eliminated at Philadelphia each of the last 2 years. Sure, the offense remains rather pedestrian, averaging only 21.6 points per game. But given their exception defense, even this modest point production is good enough to give them an AMOV of +9.3 points, more than enough to cover this modest line vs. what we feel is an overrated opponent.
The 49ers had an amazing comeback vs. the Giants last week, rallying from 24 points down for the exhilarating 39-38 victory. Keep in mind, however, that the Niners did not produce much out of their conventional offense, and it was not until they went into their no-huddle mode that they started to move the ball well. We doubt that the Bucs will have such a big lead in this game that the 49ers will go into their hurry-up offense that early again, and we feel that they is not an offense in the NFL that can consistently move the ball vs. this Tampa Bay unit.

NFL FREEBIE: JETS/OAK OVER The Jets ripped the Colts a new one last week and have the hottest QB around. This team can score and although the Raider defense has healed they will have a hard time slowing down this Jet “O” that’s outscored their last 3 opponents 113-34. The Jets “D” will have their work cut out against the ultra-accurate Gannon and a Raiders offense that’s averaging over 28 PPG for 2nd best in the league. 6 of the last 9 in the series have gone over.

NFL Game of the Month
The Bucs lead the NFL in defense allowing just 12.2 points per game. On offense they will be looking to get their running and passing attack back into balance with Brad Johnson returning under center.
The Bucs have a tremendous pass rush coupled with the fact the 49ers running attack has fallen off due to injuries to Hearst and Barlow. With the 49ers being forced to throw, their main weapon Owens will get plenty of attention from the Bucs secondary. Will the other 49er wideouts be effetive? We do not believe so with the Bucs front four bringing the heat to Garcia.
Brad Johnson should be able to throw the ball against a weak and unproven 49er secondary. The Key for the Bucs will be to get the ground game going to provide the much needed balance they have been missing. Remember, Brad Johnson is a much better quarterback than Rob Johnson or Shaun King. The Bucs will turn it up a couple notches on offense with Brad under center.
Tampa Bay is rested, have the superior defense and the offense will be much stronger this week. Lay the points with Tampa Bay.
