    Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

-- Prince Fielder had played in 547 consecutive games before a neck injury ended the streak. Rangers have been pummeled by injuries this season.

-- Kevin Love apparently wants out of Minnesota so Timberwolves will have to trade him to recoup some value. Tough to win that way.

-- Oregon State is expected to name Montana coach Wayne Tinkle its new hoop coach this week; Tinkle did an excellent job with the Griz.

-- USC's leading scorer Byron Wesley will transfer to Gonzaga, be eligible to play next season.

-- Houston transfer Tashawn Thomas transfers to Oklahoma, good get for Sooners and Lon Kruger. He will apply to be eligible next season.

-- Why do pitchers bat in minor league games? Shouldn't hitters get more ABs?

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend.........

    13) Dodgers have the biggest payroll in baseball history, but they're 23-22, 8-3 against Arizona, 15-19 against everyone else. How long before Don Mattingly gets the boot? I'll ask it this way: If it was you who owned the Dodgers, your $250M going to a 23-22 team, wouldn't you want a better manager than Mattingly?

    12) Why some teams win: Brandon Moss was released by the Phillies, released, on October 17, 2011- he signed with Oakland six weeks later. Moss hit 30 taters last year, has 36 RBI in 42 games this year-- A's made the playoffs his first two years with the team, and are in first place this year. They got him off the scrap heap.

    11) NFL over/under win totals for this coming season: We'll get into this more later this week, but Denver-SF-Seattle have highest totals (11), while Jacksonville (4.5) has the lowest total.

    10) Mitch Williams took a leave from MLB Network as reports of his fracas at a Little League game went public. Apparently, Williams ordered one of his 10-year old pitchers to drill the opposing pitcher, and things went downhill from there. Oy.

    9) Mets' pitchers have one hit this season; they've allowed a hit to the opposing pitcher in each of their last five games.

    8) Odd weekend in baseball, with only five of 45 games having winning run score in 7th inning or later; only two games like that Friday/Saturday were the Jays-Texas games in Arlington. Not a lot of drama this weekend.

    7) Odd fact: Kevin Love's father Stan was a teammate of George Karl with the San Antonio Spurs in 1974-75.

    6) AT&T bought DirecTV this weekend for around $49B; I'm guessing my rates are going up, but I hope the hell they at least add the Pac-12, SEC Networks.

    5) Tigers' sweep at Fenway Park this weekend was their first one since 1983.

    4) Golfer Charles Howell III has 25 top 10's in his PGA career; two wins, 14 second-places finishes, nine third-place finishes. If he was a race horse, they'd say he was a lousy finisher, but he's made at least $1.2M 14 years in a row, despite not having won a tournament since 2007. Not too bad.

    3) College graduates in the Class of 2014 go out in the real world with an average student loan debt of $33,000.

    2) Rookie umpire Jon Byrne did his first game behind the plate Sunday, Mets-Nats. Byrne is the first Australian umpire in the major leagues.

    1) Supposedly Detroit Pistons offered their coaching job to Tom Izzo before they hired Stan Van Gundy- they got the right guy. Izzo is a great college coach, do not see him putting up with the BS most NBA coaches have to put up with.

Game of the Day: Thunder at Spurs
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oklahoma City Thunder at San Antonio Spurs (-5.5, 209)

Tony Parker will be in the lineup when the San Antonio Spurs open the Western Conference finals against the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday. Parker suffered a hamstring injury in Wednesday’s series-clinching victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in the conference semifinals and participated in practice on Sunday and pronounced himself ready afterward. The Thunder won all four regular-season meetings with the Spurs but will be without valuable power forward Serge Ibaka (calf) for the series.

Oklahoma City standout Kevin Durant posted nine 30-point outings while averaging 31.4 points during the first two rounds of the postseason and is hoping to lead the Thunder past San Antonio in the conference finals for the second time. Oklahoma City, which is the West finals for the third time in four seasons, defeated the Spurs in six games in 2012 to reach the NBA Finals for the lone time since the franchise relocated from Seattle. San Antonio swept the Memphis Grizzlies in four games in last season’s conference finals before falling to the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. The Spurs are hoping their vaunted veteran trio of power forward Tim Duncan, guard Manu Ginobili and Parker will hold up for another dash to the finals.

      TV:
      9 p.m. ET, TNT

      LINE HISTORY:
Pinnacle Sports opened the Spurs as 4.5-point home faves, but that has since moved to -5.5. The total opened 209, dropped to 208.5 and rebounded back to 209.

      INJURY REPORT:
Thunder - F Serge Ibaka (out, calf). Spurs - PG Tony Parker (Probably, hamstring).

      ABOUT THE THUNDER:
Beating the Spurs without Ibaka will be a challenge and rookie Steven Adams and veteran Nick Collison will be asked to plug the gap. It is a huge hole to fill considering Ibaka averaged 14 points, 11.5 rebounds and four blocked shots during Oklahoma City’s season sweep of San Antonio. Adams played 40 minutes in the series-clinching victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday, posting a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds as he displayed that he can do more than be an antagonizer. Collison averaged 11.2 minutes during the first two rounds of the playoffs and could double that amount against the Spurs.

      ABOUT THE SPURS:
Parker addressed San Antonio’s problems with the Thunder this season on Sunday and expressed that the club’s ball movement has to improve. “We need to execute a lot better, because against them you can’t go half-speed,” Parker told reporters. “You have to go full speed and we have to be perfect because they are younger than us and they’re more athletic than us, so everything has to be more perfect.” San Antonio will also be looking for another strong series from small forward Kawhi Leonard, who averaged 17 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.8 steals and made 9-of-17 3-point attempts in the five-game series against Portland.

      TRENDS:

      * Thunder are 10-1-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings.
      * Under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings.
      * Spurs are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games.
      * Over is 6-1 in Spurs last seven Conference Finals games.

      CONSENSUS:
53 percent of Consensus wagers are on the Thunder.

Rangers at Canadiens: What bettors need to know
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New York Rangers at Montreal Canadiens (-127, 5)

The Montreal Canadiens relinquished home-ice advantage in their Eastern Conference final after being on the business end of a 7-2 drubbing in the series opener. Looking to even the set with the New York Rangers, Montreal isn't revealing its cards on whether Carey Price will be in goal for Game 2 on Monday. The Canadian Olympian appeared to injure his right knee in a collision with New York forward Chris Kreider but remained in the contest and yielded four goals in two periods - including two in less than a minute - before sitting out the third.

Price skated for approximately five minutes but did not take part in Sunday's practice, leading to speculation that Peter Budaj may receive the start. "Today was an optional practice," Montreal coach Michel Therrien said. "It was a therapy day for Carey. We'll see if he's able to play." Defenseman Ryan McDonagh certainly was able to play on Saturday, collecting a goal and three assists to etch his name into the franchise record book as the Rangers emphatically drew first blood in the series.

        TV:
8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, RDS

        ABOUT THE RANGERS:
While New York recorded seven goals in the opener, perhaps none was more important - at least psychologically - than the one by Rick Nash. The struggling forward scored on the power play during the third period for his first tally of the postseason and just his second in 27 playoff games as a member of the Rangers. Nash's inclusion with the man advantage came as a result of the absence of Derick Brassard, who is considered day-to-day by coach Alain Vigneault after exiting Game 1 with an undisclosed injury.

        ABOUT THE CANADIENS:
As one might expect, former Ranger Brandon Prust and Therrien took issue with Kreider's collision with Price. "In this situation, he went skates first right into his leg," Prust said. "We call that accidentally on purpose." Prust attempted to retaliate against Kreider, but instead drew a double-minor and 10-minute misconduct that led to three power-play goals. "Let's put it this way," Therrien said. "(Kreider) didn't put much effort to avoid contact."

        TRENDS:

        * Rangers are 2-9 in the last 11 meetings in Montreal.
        * Rangers are 4-0 in their last four overall.
        * Canadiens are 5-2 in their last seven home games.
        * Under is 5-2-1 in Canadiens last eight vs. Metropolitan.

        OVERTIME:

        1. McDonagh tied former Rangers captains Brian Leetch, Brad Park and Dave Maloney as defensemen to record four points in a playoff game.

        2. Montreal C Lars Eller collected a goal and an assist in Game 1, increasing his team-leading point total to 11.

        3. Collectively as a team, the Rangers attended the funeral of RW Martin St. Louis' mother on Sunday.

Ryan Zimmerman, Washington - Out indefinitely

Zimmerman is on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right thumb. He is taking part in baseball activities but there is no clear timetable for his return.

The A's killing it in the run differential department

If you’re the type who likes to use run differential as a quick and dirty gauge of a team’s talent, you’re probably very impressed with the Athletics thus far. Sunday’s 13-3 victory over the Indians leaves them 3.5 games ahead of the Angels for first place in the AL West. The win also brought their run differential to a staggering +95, putting them on pace for +350 over a full season. Typically, the best teams finish in the +150-200 area.

The Athletics have nine players, minimum 80 plate appearances, with an above-average wRC+ which is a Sabermetric stat that individually weights each of the various components in which a player contributes offensively. 100 is average. Reddick is close to joining the list at 94.

Giants don't know when or if Scutaro will be back

Pondering the possibility of going a full season without second baseman Marco Scutaro, San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy was willing to offer a compromise of sorts Sunday.

Bochy admitted the Giants are close to a point where they must weigh the advantages of having a part-time Scutaro rather than waiting for his ailing lower back to completely heal, which may or may not ever happen.

"At some point, we've got to be honest: (What) are we going to get?" Bochy said Sunday before the Giants' 4-1 win over the Miami Marlins. "If it's a couple of days as a pinch hitter, that could work. We would be a better club by doing that. But right now we're not close to getting him to that point."

Scutaro, 38, recently spent time in Arizona, waiting for his back to heal while he attempts to stay in a semblance of baseball shape.

Rangers expect a different Habs team in Game 2

Whether it’s Carey Price or Peter Budaj in the Montreal Canadiens’ net in Game 2, Brad Richards told New York Newsday that the New York Rangers anticipate a steeper challenge after Game 1′s 7-2 win.

“We’re going to see a whole different team tomorrow night and we’re expecting a big push from them,” Richards said.

As great as the Rangers looked at times in gaining that lopsided Game 1 victory, it’s probably fair to say that the Rangers were pretty luck at times, too. (Rick Nash finally scoring is a nice example of the bounces going the Blueshirts’ way on Saturday.)

“I think we played a really good game, but we also got lucky with some of the bounces, some of the goals, they just seemed to keep coming,” Dan Girardi said. “We’re obviously very happy with our effort in Game 1, but we’re not dumb. We know it’s not going to happen again. We can’t be satisfied with that.”

From the sound of things, it won’t be difficult for the Rangers to get pumped up against the Canadiens in Montreal on Monday.

Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez fighting through tendinitis

Carlos Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Rockies' victory Sunday, but the Gold Glove left fielder still isn't quite himself.

Blame the lingering tendinitis in his left knee.

"I feel a little better; still fighting with that knee," CarGo said. "I think it's showing in stolen bases. It's kind of slowed down a lot. But I continue to get treatment every day, and hopefully it gets better and I can bring that speed back to the club."

Gonzalez is hitting .275 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs, but he has just two stolen bases.
