Maybe its just me, and this is certainly not based on any statistical evidence... but it seems like when a team does some kind of pre-game special recognition ceremony for a fairly contemporary player or coach, the home team loses that game.

I'm not saying that when the NY Knicks honor the 1973 Championship team it makes a difference (as none of the current Knicks played with or have some sort of emotional tie to the members of that team) but when a recently retired player comes back to be honored, and a substantial number of current players were teammates... there seems to be a letdown by the team in the game that follows.

Latest example: Friday Night the NJ Devils retired Ken Danyeko's #3 and proceeded to get whipped by the TB Lightning 4-1.

Does this particularly mean anything tonite in the Bruins game? I have no idea... but its just something I've noticed over time and wanted to throw out there for possible discussion.

I agree. I think these things are more of a distraction. Does anyone really think the current players on the Bruins care that Cam Neely is having his jersey retired?

Jim i'm not positive but i don't think anyone on the current roster played with Neely unlike Danyeko. This play wasn't made with any thoughts of the retirement either, I just think this is a team Boston should be able to handle with ease!

I was in no way, shape or form implying that the Bruins are a bad play today. I don't even know if Neely played with any of the current Bruins, or even if this theory has any basis in fact.

Jim i appreciate and enjoy your thoughts. That's what were all here for. I agree sometimes it works against a team but didn't Neely retire like 20 years ago, what took so long?
