    Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

-- Arizona 74, UCLA 70-- Wildcats blew 13-point lead, then outscored the Bruins 10-5 down the stretch to stay unbeaten.

-- Memphis 73, Louisville 67-- Someone on TV called this biggest win for Josh Pastner as coach of the Tigers.

-- Knicks 102, Heat 92-- Good for Mike Woodson, who sat JR Smith after Smith continuously acted like a child on the court.

-- DePaul 99, Butler 94 2ot-- Bulldogs are 0-3 in Big East, will need to get better athletes to win in Big East- this ain't the Horizon League. .

-- Michigan 71, Nebraska 70-- Bitter loss for Cornhuskers, who lost home opener after having couple shots in last 0:05.

-- Xavier 86, Marquette 79-- Referee Jim Burr did this game, after working Harvard-UConn Wednesday. He started working D-III college games back in 1972-- he has to be close to 70 years old, and refs on consecutive nights. Good for him.

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here.....

    13) Redskins hired Jay Gruden as their new head coach; he used to be a coach in the Arena League, but quit to go back to playing QB on a different team, probably only time that’s ever happened. Washington will apparently keep Jim Haslett as defensive coordinator.

    12) Not sure how Bengals’ DC Mike Zimmer isn't a head coach? Does he not interview well? I heard him talk on HBO’s Hard Knocks, seems fairly normal; he is the only person who has been an NFL coordinator every year since 2000, without becoming a HC, demoted or unemployed.

    11) In college ball, Alabama OC Doug Nussmeier moves on to Michigan, where he can tutor fellow lefty tosser Shane Morris. Nussmeier was a fine QB at Idaho and was a backup QB with the Saints. Would guess Gardner goes back to WR for Michigan, but that’s not based on anything they said, just makes sense for a lefty OC to be coaching a lefty QB.

    10) Apparently Alabama let Nussmeier walk because Nick Saban wants to bring Lane Kiffin in as OC, all of which could make the third Saturday in October a lot more interesting, when the Tide traditionally plays Tennessee, Kiffin’s old team.

    9) UAB’s head coach Garrick Magee quit to become Bobby Petrino’s OC at Louisville; now there’s a slap in the face, quitting as a I-A head coach to become an offensive coordinator. Maybe he was just beating the posse out of town, since the Blazers were 5-19 under Magee’s watch.

    8) Petrino is making $24.5M for seven years at Louisville, with a $10M buyout; who else would hire this disloyal human? Western Kentucky is second team he’s quit on in $hort order for greener pa$ture$.

    7) Want to feel warmer? Dodgers-Padres are ESPN’s first Sunday night game on March 30. Opening Day is the 31st; LA-Arizona are playing two games that count in Australia before that, so the Dodgers will play three games before 27 other teams play their season opener.

    6) Knicks have to trade JR Smith, no matter how bad a loss they take on the deal; he basically gave Mike Woodson the finger when he untied a Philly player’s shoelace after being explicitly by Woodson told not to do that anymore. Lack of respect is a deal-breaker; even if they cut him, he has to go.

    5) Fordham lost 87-81 at Duquesne Wednesday; they had an odd stat line, making 16-41 from arc, 10-30 inside arc, 13-22 on foul line. Not very often a team takes 40+ treys in a 40:00 game.

    4) If you care about such things, Pete Rose will be signing autographs at Art of Music in Mandalay Place in Las Vegas on February 1, then every day from Feb. 9th til the end of the month. There is a very good pizza place called Slice of Pizza right down the hall from Art of Music, probably a better investment than paying $75 to get Pete’s autograph.

    3) New Jersey Giant starters lost 91 games to injuries this past regular season, most of any team in the NFL.

    2) 16 people didn’t vote for Greg Maddux for the Hall of Fame. It’s a free country and those people are entitled to do as they please, but that doesn’t mean it makes an ounce of sense.

    1) If DirecTV carries the new WWE Network but still doesn’t have the Pac-12 Network, someone’s getting a phone call.

NFL Divisional betting preview: Hot bets and moving odds

All odds current as of 11 a.m. ET, Jan. 9.

      Saturday, Jan. 11.

New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks (-8, 47)

Even after the Saints earned a big road win at Philadelphia last week, they aren’t getting much love against the Seahawks. Drew Brees struggled to get much going against Philadelphia’s pass defense and finished with 250 passing yards to go along with one touchdown and two interceptions. Now the Saints face a Seahawks club that is 7-1 at home and owns the top total defense, scoring defense and passing defense in the NFL. So, it’s no surprise that the total has dropped from 48.5 at the open to 47 now.

Where the action is: The Saints are seeing 64 percent of Sports Interaction's bets as 8-point road underdogs.

Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots (-7, 52.5)

It may not be pretty, but the Indianapolis Colts continue to find ways to win. Last week it was Andrew Luck’s fumble recovery that pushed them past the Kansas City Chiefs. This week they may need some more luck against the Pats. Although the Colts have proven they can keep pace on the scoreboard, last week’s defensive performance against the Chiefs is a big concern. The Colts allowed Alex Smith to throw for almost 400 yards with four touchdowns with star running back Jamaal Charles on the sideline. You have to think Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are licking their chops.

Where the action is: The Pats opened as 7.5-point favorites but that line has dropped to -7 with solid support for the Colts coming in. About 70 percent of our bets are currently backing Indy at +7.

      Sunday, Jan. 12

San Francisco 49ers at Carolina Panthers (+1, 42)

Now we’ll get to see what the Panthers are made of. They come into this game as the hottest team in the league with just one loss on their record after starting the season 1-3. They also dropped the 49ers 10-9 in San Francisco back in Week 10, sacking quarterback Colin Kaepernick six times in the process. Still, the 49ers are coming on strong as well and earned a lot of toughness points last week by beating the Packers in frigid Lambeau Field. With a couple of big-play quarterbacks squaring off, this one might come down to who breaks the biggest play when his team needs it most.

Where the action is: This line is bouncing around all over the place. The Panthers opened as 2-point home dogs but the game then moved to a pick ‘em. Now Carolina sits as a 1-point underdog and the total has dropped from 43 at the open to 42. About 61 percent of Sports Interaction bettors are siding with San Francisco.

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos (-9.5, 54)

A lot of bettors made a pile of money this year betting the Broncos and the over, but now that we’re in the playoffs, betting habits have changed. San Diego has already beaten Denver once this season and has won five straight, covering the number in four of those contests. That alone seems to be enough to sway a good portion of our betting public, even with Peyton Manning on the other side. The Broncos remain +237 Super Bowl favorites.

Where the action is: This number opened at Denver -10 and then dipped to -9.5 not long after. The total has dropped from 55 to 54. As of noon Thursday, 65 percent of our bets are coming in on the underdog Chargers at +9.5.

Penguins at Oilers: What bettors need to know
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers (+162, 5.5)

The Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh Penguins vie for their fourth straight victory and 18th in 21 outings on Friday when they visit the Western Conference cellar-dwelling Edmonton Oilers. Pittsburgh opened its three-game trek through Western Canada with a 5-4 shootout triumph over Vancouver on Tuesday. Captain Sidney Crosby returning to the scene of his 2010 Olympic gold-medal game heroics by scoring late in regulation before netting the lone goal of the bonus format.

Crosby drilled the Oilers in the teams' first meeting, setting up all three goals in the Penguins' 3-2 victory on Oct. 15. While Pittsburgh is surging, Edmonton is trending in the wrong direction as it suffered its 11th loss in 14 outings (3-9-2) with a 5-2 setback to St. Louis on Tuesday. Nail Yakupov scored his third goal in four contests in the loss.

          TV:
10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Pittsburgh), TSN (Edmonton)

          ABOUT THE PENGUINS (32-12-1):
While Crosby is riding a six-game point streak, fellow former Hart Trophy winner Evgeni Malkin has collected three goals and an assist in two contests since returning from a nine-game absence with a leg injury. Malkin scored the game-winning goal in the teams' previous meeting and has recorded six points in four career contests versus Edmonton. Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves against the Oilers in October, but has yielded nine goals in his last two outings.

          ABOUT THE OILERS (14-27-5):
With a sputtering offense scoring two or fewer goals in three of the past four games, coach Dallas Eakins tested Sam Gagner at right wing in Thursday's practice. As a result, rookie Mark Arcobello saw time on the team's second line at center with Jordan Eberle and Yakupov. "I'm used to it," Arcobello said of the changes. "I've played up and down the lineup. Whatever opportunity I'm given, it's not going to be a new one for me."

          TRENDS:

          * Over is 6-0 in Oilers last six overall.
          * Penguins are 8-3 in their last 11 road games.
          * Oilers are 5-2 in their last seven games playing on two days rest.
          * Over is 5-1 in Penguins last six overall.

          OVERTIME:

          1. Arcobello scored against the Blues, marking his first time he found the net since Edmonton's 8-2 rout versus Colorado on Dec. 5.

          2. Pittsburgh has killed off all 16 short-handed opportunities in its last six games.

          3. Edmonton assigned D Brad Hunt to Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League, potentially opening the door for D Corey Potter to return from a groin injury.

Celtics at Warriors: What bettors need to know
                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boston Celtics at Golden State Warriors (-10.5, 203.5)

The Golden State Warriors were four minutes away from the first 7-0 road trip in NBA history before finally running out of gas. The Warriors get to head home on Friday when they host the Boston Celtics, who are losers of six straight. Golden State matched the second-longest winning streak in franchise history with 10 straight before suffering a 102-98 loss at the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.

“Our visions were set on finishing out the road trip with a win and what it meant,” Stephen Curry said. “It’s frustrating that we couldn’t get that done, but it’s just one loss. We just have to regroup, get some rest and get ready for Friday.” The Warriors have played the most road games in the NBA but will get a chance for some rest with nine of the next 12 on their homecourt. The Celtics are on the back end of a five-game trip and have dropped the first three.

                  TV:
10:30 p.m. ET, CSN New England (Boston), CSN Bay Area (Golden State)

                  ABOUT THE CELTICS (13-23):
Boston was crushed by an average of 27 points at Oklahoma City and Denver to start the road trip but put up a better effort at the Los Angeles Clippers in a 111-105 setback on Wednesday. “I thought we were ready emotionally to compete,” coach Brad Stevens said. “So that’s a positive. We’ve got to build on it. We’ve got to do it again and again and again.” The Celtics were burned on high pick-and-rolls by the Thunder and the Nuggets but made a change to the starting lineup in Los Angeles by inserting Kris Humphries at the power forward spot and did a better job of containing the play against the Clippers.

                  ABOUT THE WARRIORS (24-14):
Golden State can run a high pick-and-roll as well as any team in the league with Stephen Curry and David Lee but got in trouble against Brooklyn when tired legs led to turnovers and jumpers falling short. “I don’t think we executed offensively as well as we wanted to,” Lee said. “…so it was a frustrating way to end the streak, but overall a 6-1 road trip is very positive.” The streak allowed the Warriors to gain some ground in the Western Conference and they sit a game behind the Clippers in the Pacific Division after jumping over the Phoenix Suns. Golden State won its last three home games and is 11-4 in its own building.

                  TRENDS:

                  * Celtics are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
                  * Warriors are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
                  * Under is 15-6 in Celtics last 21 road games.
                  * Under is 6-2 in Warriors last 8 Friday games.

                  BUZZER BEATERS:

                  1. The Celtics have taken four of the last five in the series but lost their trip to Golden State last season 101-83.

                  2. Boston G Avery Bradley is averaging 19.3 points over the last four games.

                  3. Curry has committed at least seven turnovers in three of the last four games.
