    Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

-- 49ers 34, Falcons 24-- Niners dodged a huge bullet by picking off Ryan in red zone for clinching TD- bad news for the Cardinals.

-- East Carolina 37, Ohio U 20-- Bobcats led 20-17 with 10:00 left, couldn't even cover as 13-point dog. ECU had a damn fine season.

-- Terrelle Pryor is starting at QB for Oakland this week and his agent isn't happy, saying the Raiders want Pryor to fail. Thats just terrific.

-- Iowa State 83, Akron 60-- Zips took 35 3's, 29 2's, six FTs; in history of the world, teams with that distribution of shots very rarely win.

-- Boise State 80, South Carolina 54-- Boise got a break when Gamecocks upset St Mary's in first round Sunday night.

-- Heat 121, Hawks 119, OT-- Atlanta was 17-34 from arc and still lost.

    *****

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Our NFL List of 13:

    32) Texans-- If the Texans/Giants win this week, I'm pretty sure the Rams get the first pick in the draft next April-- tremendous!!!!

    31) Redskins-- If they had their own first round pick in April, teams would be accusing them of tanking games, thats how pathetic they've been late in these last few games. If Snyder gives Mike Shanahan the ultimatum of "fire your son or else", Shanahan has to refuse, right?

    30) Lions-- "Coach Saban, Mr Ford is on Line 1." Detroit will be a popular job to apply for; lot of talent. Good to follow an underachieving coach.

    29) Browns-- In 15 years, they've been 1-0 once. Once.

    28) Raiders-- Not really sure what they're trying to do; would love to know the back story of why they're apparently not happy with Terrelle Pryor.

    8) Colts-- Credit to Jim Irsay for building a franchise that has thrived after Peyton Manning moved on; no one thought that was happening.

T6) Bengals/Saints-- Both are great at home, not so much on road.

    5) 49ers-- They're really good when Kaepernick runs, but if he ever got hurt, say goodnight; Colt McCoy is the backup. Oy.

    4) Patriots-- If Belichick quits when Brady does he should be banned from the Hall of Fame for ten years, just for being a cheating weasel.

    3) Broncos-- Von Miller's season-ending injury is a huge blow to defense.

    2) Seahawks-- If they can't run ball, can Wilson win a game with his arm?

    1) Panthers-- Tesams with great defense can win one road playoff game.

See spot. See spot bet: This week's best spot bet opportunities

      Letdown spot

The NBA Christmas Day games are the crown jewel of the regular season. And this Dec. 25, basketball bettors get five games stuffed in their stocking. The San Antonio Spurs have a huge matchup with the Houston Rockets, in what could be a changing of the guard in the Southwest Division.

The Spurs, already nursing aches and pains to their key contributors, don’t get much of a Xmas vacation after rumbling with the Rockets, flying directly to Dallas for a Dec. 26 meeting with the Mavericks. San Antonio’s aging superstars are beginning to show the effects of last year’s long playoff run and meet a Dallas squad coming off a two-day break.

      Lookahead spot

The Detroit Lions are looking ahead to some time away from football – and so are their fans. Detroit watched any postseason hopes crumble in an overtime loss to New York Sunday, handing the Lions their third straight defeat and fifth in the last five games.

That late-season collapse will likely cost head coach Jim Schwartz his job, no matter what happens with Minnesota in the finale. Detroit lacks discipline and Schwartz has been on the out with Motown faithful since the same thing happened last year. The Vikings, on the other, seem to like their head coach with Minnesota’s stars like Adrian Peterson and Greg Jennings publicly supporting him.

      Schedule spot

Mississippi Valley State hits the West Coast for back-to-back games in Washington this weekend. The Delta Devils take on the Huskies Friday Dec. 27 at 10:30 p.m. ET before heading to Pullman to face the Washington State Cougars at 8 p.m. ET Saturday night. That makes for a long weekend, especially when you factor in the time change.

Mississippi Valley State has lived on the road to start the season, playing six of their eight games away from home. The Delta Devils have lost all six of their true road games and are 1-1 SU in neutral-site games.

        Guys,

There is only one college football game on the slate for today. NBA and NCAAB resume Christmas day and NHL resumes on Friday.

I'll add info as it comes out.

        Have a safe, fun holiday!

Vinita, in Craig County. It's 50 miles due NE of Tulsa and 50 miles due SW of Joplin. I guess we're about half way between Bartlesville and Miami.

I would love to meet up sometime! I'll buy you a cool, frosty! I get over in the BA area once or twice a month.

You know, I knew that! I lived in San Francisco for a while after getting out of the Navy. As a matter of fact, some friends and I took the inaugural ride on the BART system and I remember everybody was really tickled by that funny new name.

I was at Candlestick when it was brand new. I saw Willie McCovey and Willie Mays play in there. I saw Bob Gibson pitch in there. Now, it's just dust. I've got kinda the same feeling I had when the Niners moved out of Kezar, in Golden Gate park.

Merry Christmas, Bum! Have a great one, buddy!
