Blue Jackets at Flyers: What bettors need to know
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Columbus Blue Jackets at Philadelphia Flyers (-144, 5.5)

Sergei Bobrovsky will make his long-awaited return to Philadelphia on Thursday as his Columbus Blue Jackets look to remain in control of their playoff destiny with a showdown against the host Flyers. Bobrovsky, who was acquired from the Flyers in June 2012, sat out the previous meeting in Philadelphia with a groin injury. Columbus sure could have used him, as the Blue Jackets went on to squander a 3-0 third-period lead in a 5-4 loss.

The Blue Jackets are hanging by a thread in the race for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, leading the free-falling Toronto Maple Leafs by a single point but with two games in hand. The Flyers are by no means comfortable themselves, sitting third in the Metropolitan Division but just four points clear of Columbus. The Blue Jackets haven't had any luck in Philadelphia to date, going 0-5-1 in six all-time encounters at Wells Fargo Center.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Columbus), CSN (Philadelphia)

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (38-30-7): Columbus may have one of its most talented young players back in the fold a little sooner than expected. Defenseman Ryan Murray was expected to miss four-to-six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on March 7 but may return as soon as this weekend, according to coach Todd Richards. "When I'm out there skating, I can't even really tell (it was injured)," Murray told the Columbus Dispatch. "It doesn't hurt. It doesn't feel awkward anymore."

ABOUT THE FLYERS (39-27-9): One thing Philadelphia has going in its favor is an impressive showing against some of the league's top teams. The Flyers enter the season's final two-week stretch with a 4-0-2 mark against the St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins since March 15. "It's been a tough stretch of games against teams that have been dominant all year," forward Scott Hartnell told the Philadelphia Inquirer, "and I think it puts us right there with the elite teams in the league."

            TRENDS:

            * Home team is 8-0 in the last eight meetings.
            * Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
            * Blue Jackets are 9-3 in their last 12 games playing on 1 days rest.
            * Under is 8-1 in Blue Jackets last nine overall.

            OVERTIME:

            1. The clubs have split their previous eight meetings, with the home team prevailing each time.

            2. Flyers C Claude Giroux has recorded two goals and three assists in three games against the Blue Jackets this season.

            3. Bobrovsky went 42-23-10 in 83 career regular-season games with Philadelphia.

Bobrovsky to start against former team

Columbus Blue Jackets netminder Sergei Bobrovsky will be called upon to face his former team, the Philadelphia Flyers, as the Columbus Blue Jackets look to secure a ticket to the postseason.

The Jackets currently own the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings and have 83 points with seven games left on their schedule. Their current task is to fend off the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have 82 points but five games left to play.

Bobrovsky is 27-19 with a 2.50 goals against average and .919 save percentage on the season. He was traded to the Blue Jackets by the Flyers on June 22, 2012 after two seasons with the Broad Street Bullies.

Looks like it’ll be Sergei Bobrovsky vs. Steve Mason between the pipes tonight in Philadelphia.

Unders have a perfect night on the ice

It was a perfect night for playing unders in the NHL Wednesday night. All four games went under the game total with only 17 goals scored in all of the games combined.

                        Friday, April 4

Budaj gets the start for playoff-bound Habs

The Montreal Canadiens will give Carey Price some rest and start Peter Budaj in the crease as they visit the Ottawa Senators Friday evening.

With 93 points and currently third in the Eastern Conference standings, the Canadiens have locked up playoff spot and all that remains now is jockeying for third or fourth position heading into the playoffs.

Budaj has performed admirably when called upon this season. He's posted a record of 9-8-2 and owns a 2.41 goals against average and .910 save percentage.

League-worst offense going under for Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres are horrendous, there is no two ways about it. They average less than two goals per game, and have scored less goals in every single period than any other team in the NHL. It's pretty easy to tell that Buffalo is a good under play.

When the Sabres travel to Detroit, they will also carry added weight for under bettors. In the last six meetings overall between the Red Wings and Sabres have gone under and so too has the last five games at the Joe Louis Arena.

The Wings and Sabres open with a puckline of 5.

Oilers and Coyotes make for scoreboards lighting up

Maybe not the first two teams anyone thinks of when you hear offense, but the Edmonton Oilers and Phoenix Coyotes have a long history of lighting up the lamp against each other.

In the last 62 meetings between the desert dogs and oil country, the teams have topped the total 43 times. That 62 game span also includes an O/U record of 7-22-2 in the desert.

The Coyotes and the Oilers open at a puckline of 5.5.

Capitals at Devils: What bettors need to know
                          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Washington Capitals at New Jersey Devils (-127, 5.5)

Two teams in quest of a postseason berth in the Eastern Conference lock horns Friday as the Washington Capitals visit the Metropolitan Division-rival New Jersey Devils. Both clubs enter the matchup out of a playoff spot, with Washington four points behind Columbus for the second wild card in the East and New Jersey trailing the Blue Jackets by five. The teams also respectively sit six and seven points back of Philadelphia for third place in the division.

The Capitals suffered their fourth straight loss and fifth in six games Tuesday, when they were blanked 5-0 by Kari Lehtonen and Dallas. The Devils are coming off their third shootout loss in four contests, a 3-2 setback at Buffalo on Tuesday. New Jersey won the first two meetings before being shut out by Braden Holtby 3-0 on Feb. 8 in Washington.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CSN Plus (Washington)

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (34-29-13): Alex Ovechkin's lead in his attempt at a fourth Maurice Richard Trophy is down to seven goals as Anaheim's Corey Perry - the 2011 winner - tallied twice on Wednesday to raise his total to 41. Ovechkin - who has scored only four times in his last 13 games - has not tallied at even strength since Feb. 27 at Florida, netting seven power-play goals in the meantime. The captain also owns a dubious mark as he enters Friday with a league-worst minus-36 rating.

ABOUT THE DEVILS (32-28-16): New Jersey must avoid the shootout if it hopes to post victories, as it has lost 15 straight trips to the bonus format - including all 11 this season. The club has converted just 3-of-39 attempts, with two coming in Tuesday's setback. Rookie defenseman Jon Merrill practiced with a full cage on his helmet Thursday and could be in the lineup against Washington after missing two games with facial injuries.

                          TRENDS:

                          * Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in New Jersey.
                          * Capitals are 2-7 in the last nine meetings.
                          * Capitals are 3-13 in their last 16 vs. Metropolitan.
                          * Devils are 2-6 in their last eight vs. Eastern Conference.

                          OVERTIME:

                          1. Ovechkin has posted better than an even plus/minus rating only once in his last 22 games.

                          2. Only one of the Devils' final five games is against a team occupying a playoff spot. They host conference champion Boston in the season finale.

                          3. Peter DeBoer's next victory will be his 100th as New Jersey's coach.
