Pucking the trends: This week's best NHL bets
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the week of Nov. 11 - Nov. 17.

            Hot team

            Minnesota Wild (3-0 SU)

The Wild are on an absolute tear and finished off a great week by defeating the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 Sunday night. The fantastic run by the Wild has been keyed by some stellar goaltending from Josh Harding. The Wild sit second in the league with a 2.00 GAA, while Harding is at or near the top in most goaltending categories - including a microscopic 1.25 GAA. They are on the road this week with stop in Montreal, Ottawa and Winnipeg.

            Cold team

            Detroit Red Wings (0-3 SU)

Many pundits felt that the Red Wings' move to the Eastern Conference could spell 'doom' for a few teams with playoff aspirations heading into this season. Perhaps not so. It has been a rough month or so for the Winged Wheel as they have just three wins since Oct. 19. This past week was particularly grueling as they dropped all three games and are now mired in a six-game losing streak. All three of their losses this week have come in a shootout, so they are at least competitive game in, game out. They are at home this week with games versus the Nashville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators on tap.

            Best Over play

            Chicago Blackhawks (3-0 O/U)

The 'Hawks sputtered out of the gate this season (by Blackhawks standards) but have started hitting their stride. They have scored five goals in four of their last five games overall and currently lead the league with 3.6 goals per game. The Hawks were 3-0 O/U on the week but are 10-2 O/U in their last 12. A big road trip awaits this week with stops in Colorado, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

            Best Under play

            Los Angeles Kings (0-3-1 O/U)

It was a busy week for the Kings with four games played. Jonathan Quick is out with a groin strain, but the goaltending has not missed a beat. Ben Scrivens has come in and posted three wins in four games with exceptional play. The ex-Leaf netminder posted back-to-back shutouts at New Jersey and at the New York Rangers to close the week. The Kings have three games on the board this week with Tampa Bay, New Jersey and Colorado making a visit to the Staples Center.

            Surveying the schedule

The Anaheim Ducks have been one of the best teams in the league, but are mired in a three-game losing streak. A busy week upcoming could provide some betting value due to back-and-forth traveling. The Ducks start with a Monday game at Pittsburgh before flying back to Anaheim to face New Jersey and Tampa Bay, the latter of which beat up on the Ducks 5-1 on Nov. 14. The Ducks will then travel to Phoenix to take on the Coyotes in a battle between two top teams in the insanely deep Pacific Division.
