    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Most popular, least popular picks in the LVH Super Contest, where 1,034 contestants pick five games each week of the NFL season........they paid $1,500 each to be in this contest, by the way.

    Most pop. (10-32-1 vs spread)

    1) Texans 347
    2) Saints 300
    T3) Chiefs 284
    T3) Ravens 284
    5) Raiders 268
    6) Colts 249

    Least popular (23-18-1)

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.......

    13) First of all, thoughts/prayers to Coach John Fox for a quick recovery from heart valve surgery; he took ill on a golf course in Charlotte Saturday and has been hospitalized, with the surgery to happen soon.

Broncos haven't announced who the interim head coach will be, but expected thing is that it'll be Jack Del Rio, with Peyton Manning continuing to coach the offense (that was a joke, kind of). Get well Coach Fox!!!!

    12) Michigan State 29, Michigan 6-- Spartans have a really good defense; they held rival Michigan to one yard on 22 rushes and had seven sacks for 49 yards. Michigan had been averaging 183.9 rushing yards/game.

    11) 76ers 107, Bulls 104-- Philly's season over/under win total is 16.5 wins; well, they are now 3-0, with wins over Heat/Bulls. Alrighty then.

    10) Brown 27, Penn 0-- John Spooney is the 100-meter champ of the Ivy League during track season; he had TD runs of 93-94 yards in the first 18:00 of this game, as Brown moves to 5-2. Seems to me the running backs coach at Brown owes the track coach and the offensive line coach some donuts- what running game succeeds without a terrific offensive line?

    9) Minnesota 42, Indiana 39-- Gophers blew a 35-13 third quarter lead, then drove 75 yards in 3:06 for the winning TD, as they moved to 7-2. Minnesota averaged 12.5 yards every time they threw the ball. We said this a few weeks ago; it would be OK if the Hoosiers recruited some kids who play defense.

    8) Missouri 31, Tennessee 3-- Tigers moved to 8-1 in what has been a dream season for them. Kid named Joshua Dobbs played QB for the Vols; in Phil Steele's magazine this summer, he was listed as the #6 Tennessee QB.

    7) Detroit Tigers are expected to name former big league catcher Brad Ausmus as their new manager. When in doubt, hire a former catcher; Ausmus was a big league catcher for 18 years, hitting .251 with 80 homers. .

    6) Georgia 23, Florida 20--Dawgs led 23-3 at halftime, survived couple of bizarre coaching decisions as they beat Gators for third year in a row. For a team with tremendous experience at QB, on OL, Georgia isn't that good.

    5) Marshall 61, Southern Miss 13-- Larry Fedora went 34-19 in four years at Southern Miss; since he left for North Carolina, Golden Eagles are 0-20, as program has fallen off the cliff. USM had 18 winning years in a row before last year. Now? Not so much.

    4) Notre Dame 38, Navy 34-- Middies ran ball for 331 yards, converted 10-16 against the Irish, who will earn the right to get thrashed in a BCS bowl if they beat Pitt/BYU in their next two games. Rees completed 12-20 against a service academy team that doesn't give sports scholarships-- not good.

    3) Nebraska 27, Northwestern 24-- Cornhuskers scored on a 45-yard Hail Mary on the last play of the game, a tipped pass, as Wildcats lost their fifth game in a row, third brutal loss in a row. Huskers tied the game 21-all with a defensive score. Extremely bitter loss for Northwestern, which led 21-7.

    2) Wisconsin 28, Iowa 9-- Hawkeyes' coach Kirk Ferentz makes $3,835,000 a year; his team is 13-19 in its last 32 conference games and its not that great a league. They were painful to watch in this game, completing 16-40 passes.

    1) Florida State 41, Miami 14-- This was a really good game for a half, then the Seminoles pulled away in the second half. For some reason, they play Idaho in a couple weeks, right before they play Florida, then the ACC title game-- the Idaho game could be really, really ugly.

Flames at Blackhawks: What bettors need to know
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Calgary Flames at Chicago Blackhawks (-244, 5.5)

The Chicago Blackhawks host the Calgary Flames on Sunday riding a three-game winning streak and boasting a 5-1-2 record at home. Calgary has not been as fortunate of late, losing its last two at home before beginning a four-game stretch on the road, where it is 2-4-1. Beginning the trip against the defending Stanley Cup champions is no easy task for the Flames, who still have not decided on a starting goaltender.

Joey MacDonald started Calgary’s last game but has allowed at least three goals in each of his last three starts - all losses - while Karri Ramo is 2-3-1 with a 3.49 goals-against average and .888 save percentage. The Flames will need better goaltending from either MacDonald or Ramo to stand a chance against a Blackhawks offense that has produced 50 goals. Chicago has scored at least five times in each of its last three games and has not been held to fewer than three goals since Oct. 17.

                ABOUT THE FLAMES (5-6-2):
Jiri Hudler leads the team with 10 assists and 15 points, while Sean Monahan has a team-high seven goals as part of 11 points. Monahan, who scored his seventh goal of the season against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, is second among rookies in tallies. Calgary has won once in five games since losing captain and top-scoring defenseman Mark Giordano to a broken foot.

                ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (9-2-3):
Captain Jonathan Toews leads the team with 13 points, while defenseman Duncan Keith has a team-high nine assists. Corey Crawford improved to 8-2-2 after stopping 26 shots in a victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday and has a .920 save percentage. Chicago is second in the league with 33.9 shots per game while limiting opponents to a sixth-best 27.0 shots.
