    5) Broncos 259

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.....

    13) Florida State 51, Clemson 14-- Ouch. Total yardage was 565-326 in a game where Seminoles had 104 penalty yards and still hung 51 on Clemson, winning for first time in last six visits to Death Valley. Right now the three best teams in country are Oregon/Alabama/FSU, with a big gap to #4.

    12) Cal Lutheran 20, Claremont-Mudd 6-- Kid named Matthew Aven made a 62-yard FG for Claremont-Mudd College, a D-III school in California. The longest FG in NFL history is 63 yards. Pretty impressive.

    11) Duke 35, Virginia 22-- Cavaliers led 22-0 with a minute left in the first half; they never scored again, as Blue Devils moved to 5-2. Virginia gained 175 yards in the first quarter, seven yards in third- they're 2-5 and sinking fast.

    10) Northern Illinois 38, Central Michigan 17-- NIU's QB Jordan Lynch ran ball 32 times for 316 times, a I-A record for a QB- he also threw for 155 yards-- think he earned his scholarship today, no?

    9) BYU 47, Houston 46-- BYU trailed 38-34 at halftime but rallied to hand Houston its first loss. BYU ran 115 plays for 681 yards, had 41 first downs. Houston had a kick return for a TD, a defensive TD, a safety....and still lost

By way of comparison, there were a total of 126 plays run in Purdue's 14-0 loss at Michigan State; 115 plays by one team is a huge number.

    8) Tennessee 23, South Carolina 21-- Winning FG was set up by maybe the best catch I've ever seen; a one-handed grab by Marquez North down the left sideline while he was well-covered. Butch Jones has done a good job with limited resources this year; if he recruits well, Volunteers are going to be back in the SEC title hunt before too long.

    7) Oregon 62, Washington State 38-- Most underrated athlete in college football might be Oregon's duck mascot, who does pushups for every point the Ducks score. You try doing pushups in a duck costume.

Wazzu QB Connor Halliday was 58-89 for 557 yards, four TDs, four INTs, the I-A record for passes in one game. If Jim Leyland coached at State, he would've taken Halliday out and his backup would've given up a grand slam.

    6) Missouri 36, Florida 17-- Superior coaching job by Gary Pinkel; he has a freshman QB making his first college start, so he has the kid throw a bomb on the first play, reinforcing that he has confidence in his players. Maty Mauk threw for 295 yards and Mizzou is an unlikely 7-0 team.

    5) Notre Dame 14, USC 10-- In this day and age, not many college games have scoreless second halves, but this offensive horror show did. Irish lost QB Rees (concussion); how does a school that doesn't share any of NBC's TV money not recruit more than one competent passer?

    4) Vanderbilt 31, Georgia 27-- The USC score and this one probably made Vandy coach James Franklin a lot of $$$-- you don't think Pat Haden is going to make Ed Orgeron the permanent coach, do you? Haden's good friend is JK McKay, son of the great USC coach- they're going top shelf for the next USC coach and when Vandy upsets Georgia, Franklin goes on top of that list. .

    3) Auburn 45, Texas A&M 41-- The 3:30 SEC game CBS shows every week is on a roll, every game has been great theater; Tigers ran ball for 379 yards in a game where both teams gained over 600 yards. Johnny Manziel is a warrior, passing for 454 yards, running for 48 more, but he is getting pummeled every week-- today he tweaked his shoulder on a running play.

    2) Michigan 63, Indiana 47--- Memo to Hoosiers' coach Kevin Wilson; its OK to recruit defensive players. Jeremy Gallon caught 14 passes for 369 yards for the Wolverines; guys in video games don't do that. Michigan put up 751 yards and still led only 49-47 with 7:00 left.

"Offensively the tempo helps us, but it might hurt our defense," Wilson said. At least Captain Obvious will have a job on TV someday.

    1) Alabama 52, Arkansas 0-- In 2010, Bret Bielema's Wisconsin team beat Indiana 83-20 and Northwestern 70-23; wonder what the two coaches who lost those games think of Bielema's Razorbacks losing 52-7/52-0 the last two weeks, now that he's coaching in the best league in the country?

Bielema's Badgers were 0-3 in overtime games LY; Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez has to be happy Bielema left since his replacement is an upgrade.

Tiger-Cats at Alouettes: What bettors need to know
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Montreal Alouettes (+1, 52.5)

Quarterback Troy Smith will likely get his first CFL start as the Montreal Alouettes try to secure the final playoff spot when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday. Smith joined the team in August and will replace Josh Neiswander, who has been inconsistent filling in for injured veteran Anthony Calvillo. The Alouettes could be stepping into hostile ground when they take the field Sunday since they are 2-5 at home and Montreal fans are losing patience.

The Tiger-Cats are coming off back-to-back wins against the Toronto Argonauts that pulled them within two points of the East Division lead. Hamilton quarterback Henry Burris has nine 300-yard passing games and leads the league with 4,523 yards, but Hamilton’s defense has impressed as well recently, limiting the high-powered Argonauts offense to 37 points over the last two contests. If the Tiger-Cats can get pressure on the inexperienced Smith, Burris might not need to throw very much to secure a victory.

      TV: 1 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE TIGER-CATS (8-7): Rookies are providing the spark on Hamilton’s offense as running back C.J. Gable was named offensive player of the week after running for 118 yards on 17 carries against Toronto. Wide receiver Luke Tasker has 202 receiving yards and one touchdown in his first three CFL games, giving Burris yet another reliable option in his receiving corps. Defensive lineman Brandon Boudreaux leads the team with six sacks and has one interception.

ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (6-9): Smith, a former Heisman Trophy recipient, has completed 15 passes for 100 yards and one touchdown, with two interceptions as well as nine carries for 17 rushing yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. Linebacker Chip Cox leads Montreal’s defense with 98 tackles and has four interceptions and six sacks. The Alouettes lead the league in interceptions with 22, with defensive back Jerald Brown and cornerback Geoff Tisdale catching five each.

      TRENDS:

      * Tiger-Cats are 5-1 ATS in their last six meetings.
      * Tiger-Cats are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 meetings in Montreal.
      * Alouettes are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games.
      * Under is 5-2 in Alouettes last seven vs. a team with a winning record.

      EXTRA POINTS:

      1. Montreal can also clinch a playoff spot with a Winnipeg Blue Bombers loss Saturday.

      2. Hamilton is 6-1 against divisional opponents.

      3. The Tiger-Cats and Alouettes complete their season series next week in Guelph, Ont.
