    Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

Most popular, least popular picks in the LVH Super Contest, where 1,034 contestants pick five games each week of the NFL season........they paid $1,500 each to be in this contest, by the way.

    Most popular (7-23-1 vs spread)

    1) Patriots 330--L
    2) Colts 323--W
    3) Broncos 305--L
    4) Chiefs 298--W
    5) Texans 285--L
    6) Panthers 259--L

    Least popular (14-9-1)

    32) Rams 52--W
    29) Jets 65--
    28) Giants 90--L
    27) Dolphins 99--L
    26) 49ers 106--W
    25) Seattle 126--L

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Sunday.......

    13) Eagles 36, Giants 21-- Vick tweaked his hammy, Foles was 16-25/197 in relief, as Philly moved to 2-0 in divisional games, 0-3 in other games. Giants are 0-5, giving up an average of 36.4 ppg, are already -13 in turnovers. They go to Chicago this coming week for the Thursday night game.

    12) Chiefs 26, Titans 17-- KC blew a 13-0 halftime lead, were just 1-12 on third down, but scored last three times they had ball; as Alex Smith becomes first Chief QB since Mike Livingston in 1969 to win his first five starts as a Chief. 5-0 Kansas City is +10 in turnovers through five games.

    11) Ravens 26, Dolphins 23-- Miami had only 10 first downs and 22 rushing yards as they lost for second time in six days after a 0-3 start. Ravens ran ball for 133 yards after having only 24 last week in Buffalo. Miami tried a 57-yard field goal on the last play of the game, but it was wide left.

    10) Rams 34, Jaguars 20-- Jax traded LT Monroe to Baltimore so they could move rookie Luke Joeckel there, but he got hurt in first half and is out for the year. Jaguars looked little better on offense with WR Blackmon back, but this is a bad team. They should trade Maurice Jones-Drew for draft picks, too.

    9) Bengals 13, Patriots 6-- Pats were 1-12 on third down, didn't score a TD on a rainy day in Queen City- they also didn't commit one penalty. Bengals ran ball for 162 yards, held Brady to 4.0 yards per attempt- his streak of 52 games with at least one TD pass comes to an end.

    8) Colts 34, Seahawks 28-- Seattle led 12-0 early, thanks in part to a safety on a blocked punt, but Indy scored a TD on a blocked FG, Andrew Luck was tremendous on third down, converting 7-12 and TY Hilton caught five balls for 140 yards. If Luck would stop throwing to Darrius Heyward-Bey, he'd be even better; he targeted Heyward-Bey six times but none were completed.

    7) Baseball....... Alvarez, Martin had RBI hits in 8th inning as Pirates took a 2-1 series lead with a 5-3 win over St Louis.........Dodgers scored 10 runs in first four innings and crushed the Braves 13-6.

Somehow, Atlanta is sending Freddy Garcia out to start Game 4-- he turned 37 Sunday and started only three games for the Braves this season.

    6) Packers 22, Lions 9-- Calvin Johnson was a late scratch for Detroit, and it showed; Detroit was outgained 449-286, Packers won easily despite scoring only one TD. This was only second NFL game this year with no turnovers; first one ended 52-20, so offenses here struggled on a sunny day.

    5) Saints 26, Bears 18-- New Orleans has one TD, five FG in seven red zone drives in their two road games (seven TDs, four FGs at home). Bears' Jeffrey caught 10 balls for 218 yards, but Chicago had a 15-yard deficit in its average starting field position, and thats hard to overcome.

    4) Cardinals 22, Panthers 6-- I'm beating a dead horse, but Cam Newton is a great talent, NFL teams are worth almost a billion dollars each, and Carolina has Mike Shula as its offensive coordinator, after they stupidly let John Fox walk as head coach. Give Newton a real offensive mind to work with!!!!

    3) Broncos 51, Cowboys 48-- Amazing shootout with 1,039 total yards in it; Dallas scored a TD on its first four second half drives, but an INT on the last one proved to be the difference. Teams combine to convert 13-19 3rd down plays. Last time an NFL team lost scoring 48+ points was 2004, when the Browns lost 58-48 to Cincinnati.

    2) 49ers 34, Texans 3-- Schaub threw a pick-6 for 4th game in row; Houston looked like a dispirited team by game's end. Kaepernick was just 6-15 for the night passing, hitting one long TD pass to Davis that broke game open, but Harbaugh has to be little concerned with Niners' lack of depth at WR.

    1) Raiders 27, Chargers 17-- Pryor looked good throwing the ball, but they need to work on playing with a lead. Charles Woodson scored his 13th TD on defense and picked off his 56th career pass. If you're an Oakland fan, you're optimistic going forward with Pryor ar your QB.

College football odds: Week 7 opening line report

With the NCAA football schedule moving along to Week 7, a new chapter in one of the game's greatest rivalries will be written.

The annual matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners (5-0 SU, 3-2 ATS) and Texas Longhorns (3-2 SU, 2-3 ATS) - the Red River Rivalry - will be played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas and the Horns will look to put a stop to the Sooners' dominance in the matchup over the previous three seasons.

The Sooners are 3-0 SU and ATS in the past three meetings and have put up a combined 118 points on the board in their past two victories.

According to Peter Korner, founder of the Nevada-based odds service The Sports Club, he and his team of oddsmakers were all on the same page when it came time to discuss this matchup.

"With Texas missing QB David Ash, they're not the same team," Korner told Covers. "This is on the same neutral field and Oklahoma is the better team. We made the game Oklahoma -12 and had very little diversity among the five oddsmakers."

Florida Gators at LSU Tigers (-8)

LSU (5-1 SU, 3-2-1 ATS) suffered a tough loss to Georgia back on Sept. 28, but got back in the winning column as they trounced Mississippi State 59-26 in Week 6.

The Tigers boast one of the top offenses in the SEC and go up against a stingy Florida Gators (4-1 SU, 2-3 ATS) defense, which is allowing 12.2 points per game - good enough for fourth overall in the country.

Korner and his team were on a variety of numbers before settling at LSU -8.

"We were mixed on this. The range went from LSU -5.5 to -11," said Korner. "I like the LSU 'pit' they play in as an advantage. We stuck it in the middle at LSU -8 as Florida doesn't appear to be that mighty powerhouse we've seen in recent years."

Texas A&M Aggies at Mississippi Rebels (+7)

After a very impressive 3-0 start which generated a lot of buzz, Ole Miss (3-2 SU, 2-3 ATS) has dropped a pair of tough road games in the past two weeks.

Despite the back-to-back losses, Ole Miss still gets respect and faces a tough task in Week 7 with Johnny Manziel and the Aggies (4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS) coming to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

"We went from Texas A&M -5 to -8 and I sent out -7," says Korner. "You don't want to be too low with A&M's offense but Mississippi is no pushover so we didn't get too crazy."

Oregon Ducks at Washington Huskies (+16)

The Ducks (5-0 SU, 5-0 ATS) keep putting up basketball-like numbers and are coming off a 57-16 win at Colorado in Week 6. The Ducks are the first team to own a 5-0 record against the spread and will be another big, double-digit fave against Pac-12 foe Washington in Week 7.

The Huskies (4-1 SU, 4-1 ATS) put up a good fight against Stanford but ultimately lost by a field goal in California.

"We had a range from -14 to -18," Korner said. "Washington's good showing versus Stanford holds this line in check but we still sent our Oregon -16. There's no problem in rooting for Oregon if we were too high. I'll take my chances with that."

        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Vancouver Canucks dispatched the Calgary Flames 5-4 in overtime to improve the unblemished record of the road favorite to 4-0 thus far in the NHL season.

The LA Kings won 3-2 after a shootout against the Minnesota Wild as -110 road faves Thursday.

Friday featured two road faves prevail on enemy ice. The Ottawa Senators were -130 in Buffalo and won 1-0 on a last-minute goal by Erik Karlsson.

Finally, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 as -112 road faves.

Devils at Oilers: What bettors need to know
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Jersey Devils at Edmonton Oilers (-127, 5.5)

The New Jersey Devils take to the road in search of their first victory as they begin a five-game trip against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. With Ilya Kovalchuk and his hefty contract now a memory, New Jersey fired blanks in its season opener en route to a 3-0 loss to the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Newcomer Damien Brunner impressed in the Devils' first home game by scoring twice, but the club fell 4-3 in a shootout to the New York Islanders on Friday.

Edmonton still is looking for its first point of the campaign after dropping a 5-4 decision to the Winnipeg Jets in its home opener and being routed in Vancouver 6-2 by the Canucks on Saturday. The young trio of Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Nail Yakupov has combined for one assist over the first two contests while Boyd Gordon leads the club with two goals. The Oilers could receive a boost as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is expected to make his season debut following offseason shoulder surgery.

TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, MSG Plus (New Jersey), RSN West (Edmonton)

ABOUT THE DEVILS (0-1-1): It will be interesting to see how coach Peter DeBoer handles the club's goaltending situation. The newly acquired Cory Schneider got the nod in the season-opening game in Pittsburgh, while future Hall-of-Famer Martin Brodeur started his 19th consecutive home opener Friday. Brodeur is likely to get the call Monday as the Devils visit Schneider's former team in Vancouver the following night.

ABOUT THE OILERS (0-2-0): Nugent-Hopkins is returning sooner than expected, as he was not projected to join the lineup until November. "I'm feeling really good," he told the team's website. "The healing is done and my strength is up where it needs to be." Jason LaBarbera will start Monday instead of Devan Dubnyk, who allowed 10 goals on 59 shots over the first two games of the campaign.

        TRENDS:

        * Under is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Edmonton.
        * Devils are 5-1 in the last six meetings in Edmonton.
        * Oilers are 1-7 in their last eight home games.
        * Under is 6-1 in Devils last seven vs. Pacific.

        OVERTIME:

        1. Gordon scored four goals in 48 games with Phoenix last season and had a career high of eight for the Coyotes the previous campaign.

        2. New Jersey C Jacob Josefson has yet to make his season debut, as he was a healthy scratch for each of the team's first two contests.

        3. The Oilers host Montreal on Thursday before embarking on a six-game road trip that begins Saturday in Toronto.

Monday's MLB ALDS betting: What bettors need to know
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Oakland A's at Detroit Tigers (-150, 7)

          Series tied 1-1.

The Oakland Athletics are matching the vaunted Detroit Tigers’ rotation pitch-for-pitch. After settling for a split against Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, the Athletics will attempt to take the series lead when is shifts to Detroit for Game 3 on Monday. Tigers pitchers have notched 29 strikeouts in the first two games but the offense produced only two extra-base hits - both in the first inning of Game 1.

Detroit finished near the top of the majors in most offensive categories during the regular season and scored three runs in the first inning of Game 1 only to be held scoreless in the following 17. Oakland did not exactly tear the cover off the ball at home either, but Stephen Vogt got the hit that counted with his walk-off single in Game 2. Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera managed two hits in the first two contests and continues to battle groin and abdominal injuries.

TV: 1:07 p.m. ET, MLB Network

WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the mid-50s. Wind will blow across the field at 21 mph.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics RH Jarrod Parker (12-8, 3.97 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Anibal Sanchez (14-8, 2.57)

Parker went 19 starts in between losses before falling flat in September. The 24-year-old allowed seven earned runs and failed to get through five innings in two of his last three starts. Parker made two starts against Detroit in the 2012 ALDS and lost both, surrendering a total of seven runs (six earned) on 14 hits in 12 2/3 innings.

Sanchez led the AL in ERA and finished strong by going 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA in five September starts. The Venezuela native struggled at home against Oakland on August 26, yielding four runs on five hits in five innings. Sanchez made one start against the Athletics in the 2012 ALDS and suffered a loss despite giving up just two runs in 6 1/3 frames.

          TRENDS:

          * Over is 15-5-1 in the last 21 meetings in Detroit.
          * Athletics are 0-4 in Parker's last four starts vs. Tigers.
          * Under is 8-0 in Tigers last eight overall.
          * Athletics are 13-3 in their last 16 Monday games.

          WALK-OFFS:

          1. Tigers 1B Prince Fielder is 1-for-8 with a single in the series and 1-for-10 against Parker in his career.

          2. Oakland LF Yoenis Cespedes is 4-for-8 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the series.

          3. Detroit CF Austin Jackson has struck out five times in eight at-bats, including four times in Game 2.

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays (-104, 7)

          Red Sox lead series 2-0.

The Boston Red Sox are one game away from advancing to the American League Championship Series. They will attempt to close out the Division Series when they visit Tampa Bay for Game 3 on Monday. The Red Sox got all the breaks the quirky dimensions of their home park had to offer in the first two games and ended up tagging Tampa Bay pitching for 19 runs in the two contests.

The Rays struggled to figure out the “Green Monster” in left field and rookie Wil Myers endeared himself to the Boston fans with a big mistake in right during Game 1, but the familiar dimensions of their own stadium await in Game 3. Tampa Bay went 51-30 at home during the regular season, tied for the third-best home record in the AL behind the Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics. To get back in the series the Rays need to figure out a way to stop David Ortiz, who homered twice in Game 2 and contributed a key double in Game 1.

          TV: 6:07 p.m. ET, TBS

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Clay Buchholz (12-1, 1.74 ERA) vs. Rays RH Alex Cobb (1-0, 0.00)

Buchholz went 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA in four starts after returning from a shoulder injury that cost him three months during the regular season. The 29-year-old made his return at Tampa Bay on Sept. 10 and struck out six in five scoreless innings to earn the win. Buchholz made only one previous postseason start, yielding two runs on six hits in five innings against the Los Angeles Angels in the 2009 ALDS.

Cobb pitched the Rays into the Division Series with 6 2/3 scoreless innings at Cleveland in the wild card game last Wednesday. The Boston native allowed a total of three runs in 30 innings while striking out 31 over his last four starts. Cobb had trouble with the Red Sox, however, going 0-1 with a 5.16 ERA in four starts against his hometown team during the regular season.

          TRENDS:

          * Rays are 0-4 in Cobb's last four starts vs. Red Sox.
          * Under is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings.
          * Red Sox are 11-3 in Buchholz's last 14 Monday starts.
          * Road team is 6-1 in Dana DeMuth's last seven Monday games behind home plate.

          WALK-OFFS:

          1. Saturday marked the first multi-homer game of Ortiz’s postseason career. He is 1-for-6 lifetime against Cobb.

          2. Myers is 1-for-13 with five strikeouts in his first three postseason games.

          3. Boston closer Koji Uehara threw 11 pitches - all strikes - in earning the save in Game 2.

Cardinals at Pirates: What bettors need to know
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates (+107, 7.5)

          Pirates lead series 2-1.

Having already put an end to a 21-year postseason drought, the Pittsburgh Pirates are on the brink of winning their first playoff series in 34 years. The Pirates will look for the clincher when they host the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Monday afternoon. Pittsburgh took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series with a dramatic 5-3 victory in Sunday's Game 3, improving to 8-3 at home this season against the Cardinals.

St. Louis is pinning its hopes on 22-year-old rookie right-hander Michael Wacha to keep its season alive and force a winner-take-all Game 5 in St. Louis on Wednesday. The Pirates will counter with Charlie Morton, who has lost six consecutive decisions to the Cardinals and has not beaten them since April 4, 2011. Carlos Beltran has two homers and six RBIs in the series for St. Louis while Pedro Alvarez has two blasts and four RBIs for Pittsburgh.

          TV: 3:07 p.m. ET, TBS

WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the mid-50s. Wind will blow out to left field at 15 mph.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Michael Wacha (4-1, 2.78 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Charlie Morton (7-4, 3.26)

Wacha forced his way into the playoff rotation with a stellar final month, not allowing a run in three of five outings in September and coming within one out of a no-hitter in his last start. He allowed only an infield single with out outs in the ninth and struck out a season-high nine to beat Washington on Sept. 24. Wacha also pitched seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball versus the Pirates on Sept. 8.

Morton has never had much success against the Cardinals and that continued this season with an 0-2 record, 7.90 ERA and .397 batting average against in three starts. That included a disastrous outing against Wacha last month in which he allowed five runs in a season-low 1 2/3 innings before leaving with a foot injury. Morton was a much better pitcher at home, logging a 2-2 record and 2.85 ERA in nine starts.

          TRENDS:

          * Over is 3-0-1 in Morton's last four starts vs. Cardinals.
          * Cardinals are 5-1 in the last six meetings.
          * Cardinals are 0-5 in their last five during Game 4 of a series.
          * Pirates are 7-1 in their last eight games as an underdog.

          WALK-OFFS:

          1. Pittsburgh trade-deadline acquisition Marlon Byrd has five RBIs in four postseason games, including the wild-card win over Cincinnati.

          2. CF Jon Jay (8-for-16), C Yadier Molina (8-for-19) and Beltran (6-for-15) are all batting .400 or better versus Morton.

          3. Beltran hit his 16th postseason homer Sunday, surpassing Babe Ruth for eighth place on the career list.
