Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.........

    13) Rangers and Indians won, Tampa Bay lost, so Rays/Texas are tied for the second Wild Card spot, a game behind Cleveland. I'm rooting hard for the 3-team playoff, just because baseball makes the All-Star Game result matter, so they deserve a mess as the playoffs begin.

    12) NL Wild Card game will be Reds at Pirates Tuesday, first playoff game in the Steel City since 1992.

    11) Georgia 44, LSU 41-- A football classic, with 670 passing yards between the two QBs, who are were roommates as freshmen.

    10) Buffalo 41, UConn 12-- Huskies are now 0-4 after almost upsetting Michigan last week- they also lost to Towson State. Think Big Dozen regrets taking Rutgers over UConn? Nope, me either.

    9) Arizona State 62, USC 41-- In immortal words of former NBA player Micheal Ray Richardson,. "...the ship be sinking." ASU gained 612 yards, scored 42 second half points. Trojans traveled only 56 scholarship players and star WR Marqise Lee got hurt returning a punt when it was 48-21.

I had no idea ASU has over 73,000 students; they're the biggest college in the country and Central Florida is second. Who knew?

    8) USC has 40 alumni on NFL rosters, most of any team, but LSU leads NFL with 11 alumni as defensive backs- think that helps recruiting? .

    7) Northern Illinois 55, Purdue 24-- Huskies have beaten Iowa/Purdue this season; they should get one of the Big Dozen's bowl slots in December.

    6) Hunter Pence gets $90M, five years from the Giants, giving agents all over America big smiles. If Pence gets $18M a year, what will Robinson Cano get? I don't think Cano will get more than five years, though.

    5) Oklahoma 35, Notre Dame 21-- Irish were 9-25/104 passing with three INTs and were taken to the woodshed in the first 5:00 of this game, before making a game of it later on. Sooners had 212 rushing yards, 238 passing.

    4) Every once in a while we mention a high school in Texas (Allen HS) that has an 18,000-seat football stadium that cost $60M, but now word comes out that their marching band has 850 kids in it. 850!!! What do they all do, I mean other than march? Wonder which school board member has a business that sells the band members the uniforms they wear?

    3) East Carolina 55, North Carolina 31-- Pirates had 36 first downs, gained 603 total yards. Good news for Tar Heel fans-- basketball practice started this weekend, so that season is only six weeks away.

    2) Alabama 25, Ole Miss 0-- Rebels had covered their last four visits to Tuscaloosa, but managed 205 only yards here, after some Ole Miss players said they thought they could score on the Alabama defense. Crimson Tide had 254 rushing yards and put the Rebels in their place.

    1) Way out west very late Saturday nite, Fresno State led 42-3 at Hawai'i with 6:15 left in third quarter; Rainbow Warriors then scored 34 points in 13:24, pulling within 42-37 with 7:51 left in game, but Bulldogs hung on for the win, which would've been the worst collapse in college football history.

      NASCAR betting: AAA 400 preview

The next stop on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series calendar is the AAA 400 from the Dover International Speedway.

Matt Kenseth won last weekend is currently top of the driver standings and is 14 points ahead of Kyle Busch.

Tony Stewart was the winner at the FedEx 400 at the one mile oval track in Dover back on June 2.

      Here is our betting preview:

      Favorite: Jimmie Johnson (3-1)

Johnson finished 17th here in June after starting 24th on the grid. He does have five wins, nine top-fives and 13 top-10 finishes in his last 19 races at Dover, and seven wins at Dover in his career. He finished fourth one week ago and is currently 18 points back of leader Matt Kenseth in the Cup standings.

      Live dog: Kurt Busch (18-1)

Busch started fourth last week but finished 13th and will look for drastic improvements at Dover. Kurt won this race back in 2011, finished fourth in 2010 and fifth in 2009, so he's comfortable here. He's currently seventh in the standings and sits 40 points back.

      Long shot: Ricky Stenhouse (100-1)

Stenhouse has only raced at Dover three times, but has a top-five finish and a top-10 finish and boasts an average finish of 8.3. Stenhouse finished 13th here in June after starting 23rd in the grid. He finished 24th at New Hampshire last week.

Key stat: Jimmie Johnson (2009 and 2010) is the only driver to win at Dover from the pole position since 2003.

[B]Notable quotable: “I’m really looking forward to Dover. It is one of my favorite tracks. We were close there last time, lead a bunch of laps and were in position there toward the end for a win. Unfortunately, we got penalized on that final restart and weren’t able to pull it off. I think we’ve clarified things a little bit with the new restart rule and are headed in the right direction. This Lowe’s team has had a consistent start to the Chase (for the NASCAR Sprint Cup) and I expect more of the same this weekend in Dover.” - Jimmie Johnson

      Odds to win AAA 400:

      Jimmie Johnson 3-1
      Matt Kenseth 9-2
      Kyle Busch 9-2
      Kasey Kahne 7-1
      A.J. Allmendinger 100-1
      Jeff Gordon 12-1
      Brad Keselowski 12-1
      Carl Edwards 15-1
      Martin Truex Jr. 18-1
      Kurt Busch 18-1
      Clint Bowyer 18-1
      Kevin Harvick 18-1
      Denny Hamlin 20-1
      Dale Earnhardt Jr. 25-1
      Greg Biffle 25-1
      Joey Logano 25-1
      Brian Vickers 25-1
      Jamie McMurray 60-1
      Mark Martin 75-1
      Juan Montoya 75-1
      Ryan Newman 50-1
      Jeff Burton 75-1
      Marcos Ambrose 100-1
      Danica Patrick 100-1
      Aric Almirola 100-1
      Paul Menard 100-1
      Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 100-1
      Field ( Any Other Driver ) 50-1

Riders at Alouettes: What bettors need to know
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Montreal Alouettes (+3.5, 53)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes are hurting their respective playoff positions with their three-game losing skids. One of those streaks will come to an end on Sunday when the Roughriders visit Montreal. Saskatchewan defeated the Alouettes 24-21 at home in Week 8, but has played most of its last two games without league-leading running back Kory Sheets (ankle), who assured Roughriders fans that his return will be soon.

Montreal is less fortunate with its injury situation, as running back Brandon Whitaker and quarterback Anthony Calvillo will remain out for the duration of the regular season while backup quarterback Tanner Marsh joins them with a thumb injury. The Alouettes did see linebacker Kyries Hebert return last week against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, but their offense remains inconsistent under the leadership of young pivot Josh Neiswander and backup running back Jerome Messam. Neiswander threw for nearly 300 yards in the loss to Hamilton.

        TV: 1 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE ROUGHRIDERS (8-4): Quarterback Darian Durant fumbled the ball twice against the BC Lions last week, and those turnovers resulted in a crucial 10 points en route to a 24-22 decision. The fumbles overshadowed a 326-yard, two-touchdown passing performance by Durant, but Saskatchewan was limited to 39 rushing yards without Sheets. Defensive end Ricky Foley and linebacker Craig Butler stepped up in the absence of linebacker Renauld Williams, who led the team in tackles (42) and sacks (seven) before being placed on the nine-game injured list. Foley has six sacks, while Butler has tied Williams with 42 tackles and added three sacks and one interception.

ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (4-8): Linebacker Chip Cox was named defensive player of the week after recording eight tackles, two sacks and one interception against the Tiger-Cats. Cox leads the league with 86 tackles and is the centerpiece of Montreal’s elite linebacker corps. Hebert led the team with seven sacks before he was injured, while linebacker Marc-Olivier Brouillette has five sacks and four fumble recoveries. Quarterback Troy Smith saw his first CFL action last week, scoring a rushing touchdown. The former Heisman Trophy winner will be backup to Neiswander while he learns the Alouettes’ playbook.

        TRENDS:

        * Roughriders are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall.
        * Alouettes are 2-7 ATS in their last nine home games.
        * Under is 14-2-1 in the last 17 meetings in Montreal.
        * Under is 5-0 in Roughriders last five games in Week 14.

        EXTRA POINTS:

        1. Saskatchewan LB Weldon Brown and DB Dwight Anderson each have three interceptions. Montreal has thrown 19 interceptions as a team.

        2. The Roughriders are 5-2 against East Division opponents. After visiting Montreal, their final five games are all against West Division foes.

        3. The Alouettes have not lost four straight games in one season since a six-game skid in 2006.
