    Armadillo:Saturday's six-pack

-- Dodgers refuse to lose; down 6-1 in 8th, they won 7-6, scoring four in the 9th inning off Tampa closer Rodney. LA is 35-8 in its last 43 games.

-- Rockies scored three runs in 27 innings at Citi Field this week, but they scored nine runs in first two innings against Liriano Friday night. Go figure.

-- Former Vikings coach Mike Tice hit the pick-6 at Del Mar Thursday to the tune of $100,796; his ticket cost $128. He was the only winner.

-- Josh Reddick hit three HRs in Toronto Friday, after homering three times in his previous 173 PAs.

-- Jake Peavy induced only two misses on 49 swings in Kansas City last night; that kind of stat would worry me if I liked the Red Sox.

-- Watching the Packers late Friday, its obvious why they signed Vince Young; their backup QBs aren't very good.

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Clearing out a cluttered mind.........

    13) Someone needs to do a documentary on these people in New Jersey who split the winning Powerball ticket; seriously, it would be amazing to see how different people handle their new-found wealth.

Real life is way stranger than fiction.

    12) As someone who watches way too much TV, can’t wait to see what FOXSports1 will be like when it debuts next weekend. Its supposed to be a direct competitor to ESPN, so we’ll see what they come up with.

ESPN used to show a lot of Australian Rules Football in its infancy; I actually enjoyed it. Tough game. Think the team I wound up rooting for was Footscray; they never seemed to win very much.

    11) FOX Sports1 has an interesting twinbill from Madison Square Garden the day before the Super Bowl; St John’s-Marquette, Georgetown-Michigan State, an amazingly late non-conference tilt. Knicks-Heat play at the Garden that night.

Would love to hear what John Thompson the father thinks of the Hoyas playing a tough non-league game in February; he rarely played any tough non-league games, anytime.

    10) Week 3 Thursday night NFL game is Chiefs at Eagles, only third time KC has ever been to Philly but it is Andy Reid’s return to the Linc. More fun with scheduling—that would be the best reality TV show ever, listening to them add little quirks to the season’s schedule.

If Andy Reid isn’t the Chiefs’ coach, no way is that a primetime game.

    9) Why don’t the Cowboys have training camp in Texas? I’m curious; they used to train at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Is there an advantage to training in California?

    8) If you’ve got a couple hundred million bucks lying around, the New Jersey Devils are for sale. First thing I’d do if I bought the Devils would be move them to Canada, where people love hockey.

    7) First NHL preseason games are September 14, little more than five weeks away. Seems like the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup last week.

    6) There hasn’t been a Friday the 13th yet this year, but there are two (Sept/Dec) in the next four months.

    5) Steelers/Cowboys have played in the most Super Bowls (8 each); there are four teams who have yet to play in one.

    4) Andrelton Simmons and Didi Gregorius played on the same Little League team? Must’ve been a pretty good squad.

    3) Watching Tarvaris Jackson play for Seattle late Thursday night, I’m wondering how the Bills think Kevin Kolb is better than he is. Or EJ Manuel, for that matter. I’ve always thought Jackson was good enough to be an NFL starter- there could always be behind-the-scenes issues. But Seattle taking him back this year makes you think there aren’t, right?

    2) One thing I’m not sure I stressed enough from my trip to Las Vegas last month; the incredible amount of fan support the Warriors’ summer league team got. If you didn’t know, you’d swear Golden State was the best team in the NBA and they had a lot of bandwagon fans. Very impressive.

    1) Coming into this week, only three golfers had made the cut at the last seven majors: Adam Scott, with a cumulative score of -5; Eldrick Woods (+15) and Jason Dufner (+20).

Giants at Steelers: What bettors need to know

New York Giants at Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5, 35.5)

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said earlier in the week that the starters will "probably play about a quarter", though a few starters will miss out in the preseason opener. Namely, O-linemen James Brewer (concussion) and Chris Snee (undisclosed), as well as FB Henry Hynoski. WR Hakeem Nicks is suffering from a groin strain and is uncertain whether or not he will see the field, though the wideout says he is 100 percent. On the other side of the ball, Justin Tuck claims that the competition at the DE position is "heating up" and competition will be fierce with guys fighting for a limited number of jobs. The Giants finished the 2012 preseason 3-1 ATS, 2-2 SU and 1-3 O/U.

The starting unit for the Pittsburgh Steelers will get 10 to 12 snaps of action in the opener and rookie running back Le'Veon Bell will get a chance to show his stuff with the starters. Bell will play with the second unit as well, however, so that head coach Mike Tomlin can see where the rookie stands. Fellow RB's Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer will also get plenty of opportunity to show their stuff as the trio jockey for position in a heated RB battle. Pittsburgh finished the 2012 preseason with a record of 3-1 SU, 1-2-1 ATS and 3-1 O/U.

The two franchises met in Week 9 last season. The Giants prevailed at home by a score of 24-20 and covered as 3.5-point home dogs.

NFL GoY: Home hook coming when Seattle host Saints

NFL Week 13: New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks (-7)

        Past History: Seattle is 4-2 SU/ATS, 3-3 O/U since 2000.

Early look at the Saints: New Orleans has a win total of 9.5 this season. It was 3-5 SU and 4-4 ATS on the road last year. The Saints come into this game with 10 days off, having played at Atlanta in a Thursday night contest the week before.

Early look at the Seahawks: Seattle has a win total of 10.5 this season. It was 8-0 SU and 7-1 ATS at home last year. The Seahawks will come into this game with a full 14 days off as they have their bye the week before.

Where this line will move: Will the return of coach Sean Payton be the difference maker for the Saints this year? Can Seahawks QB Russell Wilson duplicate the amazing offensive stats from his rookie season? Both are big questions that can only be answered as the year progresses. Depending on injuries and what each team's record is coming into this contest, I wouldn't be surprised to see this line climb a half-point as the public joins the "12th Man" on the proven home side performer.
