NCAAF Games of the Year: Suns Devils faves versus Trojans

Week 5: USC Trojans at Arizona State Sun Devils (-5.5)

    Past history: USC 13-4 SU, 9-8 ATS, 9-8 O/U since 1996
    Recent history: USC 3-1 SU, 1-3 ATS, 2/2 O/U since 2009

Early look at the Trojans: New era on offense for USC. Four-year starting QB Matt Barkley is out. Coordinator Clay Helton takes control of offense. Still talented. Projected to win nine games.

Early look at the Sun Devils: After finishing last season with three straight wins - the first time in 34 years that ASU accomplished that feat - expectations are high in the desert.

Where this line will move: Injuries and current season performance will naturally play key roles in determining which way this line goes. If the Trojans are getting quality QB play and playing well, it's possible the line could come down a little.

Odds to win the SEC football championship this season........

10-13-- Alabama-- Getting harder to satisfy a demanding fanbase.

7-2-- Georgia-- Lose eight starters on defense from LY's 12-2 team.

9-2-- South Carolina-- This is Spurrier's best team in Columbia.

8-1-- Texas A&M-- Manziel's offseason raises ??: Too much, too soon?
8-1-- Florida-- Lost their bowl game LY as a 14-point favorite.

10-1-- LSU-- New OC Cam Cameron is going to help this offense.

16-1-- Ole Miss-- New coach Freeze has been a recruiting dynamo.

18-1-- Vanderbilt-- Commodores rated in this high in league? Wow.

40-1-- Tennessee-- Jones is Vols' fourth head coach in last six years.

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend........

                  13) The hotel here in Las Vegas was a hell of a lot quieter Sunday than it was on Friday/Saturday; wish I was rich enough to afford a timeshare in this building. Excellent place to stay, the Elara behind Planet Hollywood.

                  12) Miami Marlins haven't scored a run in 37 innings, which is more than a week in real time. Jeffrey Loria should be fired as owner.

                  11) There is no federal oversight of rollercoasters, which sounds silly, until you realize that someone died in a rollercoaster accident in Texas this week. I swore a long time ago I'd never go on one again.

                  10) 3B Kris Bryant, the Cubs' first round draft pick last month, made three errors in his first five innings as a pro this weekend, and went 0-3.

                  9) In his last three majors, Eldrick Woods is -11 on Thursday/Friday, +23 on the weekend, which makes you think his issue in mainly mental.

                  8) Angels are 28-17 in games started by Weaver-Wilson-Vargas, 19-31 in games started by anyone else. Not making the playoffs that way.

                  7) Bronx Bombers have $96.1M of dead money on DL, now that ARod also has a strained quad and won't make his 2013 debut Monday in Texas.

                  6) Bronx-Boston games are hideously long baseball games; Brett Gardner had a 15-pitch AB Sunday night that took 9:11 to finish.

                  5) Opposing batters are 1 for their last 23 asgainst David Robertson when they bat with the bases loaded.

                  4) Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia is a spunky, gritty player, but $20M a year? Really? Just don't think he's worth it, but looks like he's getting it.

                  3) The only thing standing between Phil Mickelson and a career grand slam is six 2nd-place finishes at the US Open. No one's perfect.

                  2) Had no idea there were violent thunderstorms here in Las Vegas over the weekend; when you don't go outside very much, you miss a lot.

                  1) Things you don't see every day: Saturday I walked down stairs behind a woman carrying a 5-foot tall inflatable penis. Hope she had a fun day.
