    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Odds to win the first AAC football championship this season........

1-2-- Louisville-- Bridgewater is one of country's best QBs.

3-1-- Rutgers-- Doesn't say much that top two teams here are leaving.

7-2-- Cincinnati-- Guess Tommy Tuberville didn't like Lubbock too much.

10-1-- UCF-- Lost seven of top ten tacklers from last season.

20-1-- SMU-- June Jones hired Hal Mumme as an offensive assistant.

20-1-- UConn-- Football is making their basketball program lag behind.

20-1-- South Florida-- Damn, Skip Holtz didn't last long with the Bulls.

35-1-- Houston-- Remains to be seen if Levine is the right coach here.

50-1-- Memphis-- At least the Tigers will help the AAC's basketball.

60-1-- Temple-- Same here; AAC will be an underrated hoop league.

    *****

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday........

    13) Houston's Erik Bedard pitched 6.1 innings Saturday and didn't allow a hit, but he gave up three runs, two unearned, as he walked five and struck out 10 while throwing 109 pitches in a 4-2 loss to Seattle.

    12) White Sox manager Robin Ventura benched OF Alex Rios Friday for dogging it on a double play grounder, but Rios was back in the lineup Saturday and knocked in five runs as Chicago beat the Braves 10-6.

Hard to trade a guy (and dump his $12.5M salary) if he doesn't always give great effort. Am guessing his pricetag went down this weekend.

    11) Texas Rangers lost 13 of their last 21 home games.

    10) Mets' rookie Zack Wheeler lasted only 4.2 innings while throwing 106 pitches as the Mets beat Philly 5-4, the Phils' first loss in their last eight games at Citi Field.

    9) Tampa Bay Rays won 19 of their last 23 games, during which time their starting pitchers' ERA is a paltry 2.34.

    8) Bronx Bombers have used 45 players this year, seven starting 3B's; their shortstops are hitting a combined .208. Sounds like the GM isn't doing a very good job of replacing their injured players.

    7) Angels' announcers were criticizing Oakland's second half pitching rotation during Saturday night's game; those nitwits should look at the A's payroll, the Angels' payroll, then take a look at the standings.

    6) It only took four days for FOX to talk about Mariano Rivera as the All-Stasr Game MVP, as if he miraculously saved the game somehow. He was given the MVP as a lifetime achievement award, thats it. It was such a dull game, there really wasn't an MVP.

    5) Calgary Stampeders rallied from a 24-0 first quarter deficit to stun Montreal 38-27, the greatest comeback in CFL history.

    4) Toronto Argonauts' QB Ricky Ray was 19-20 for 286 yards passing Friday, before he hurt his knee. Ray said "I heard a pop", never a good sign.

    3) Rory Sabbatini isn't in the British Open? Looked weird to see his name amongst the leaders at this week's PGA event in Mississippi.

    2) Kobe Bryant's parents raked in $282,000 by selling some of Kobe's stuff this week; you can pick your friends, but not your relatives.

    1) Restaurant recommendation; Gordon Ramsay's "Burger" restaurant inside the Planet Hollywood casino is very good eating.

NCAAF Games of the Year: Clemson could be FG fave vs. FSU

NCAAF Week 8: Florida State Seminoles at Clemson Tigers (-2)

      Past history: FSU 11-6 SU, 7-10 ATS since 1996. 9/4/1 O/U since 1999
      Recent history: FSU 2-2 SU, 0-4 ATS, 3-1 O/U since 2009.

Early look at the Seminoles: The Noles lost a lot to the NFL Draft, particularly at QB and along the defensive line, but still have talent and fairly big expectations. Florida State does get an extra week to prepare for this one. Oddsmakers are projecting FSU to win 10 of 12 games.

Early look at the Tigers: The sky appears to be the limit for this team. In a 10-game schedule, the projected win total is 9.5. Unlike the Noles, the Tigers return their starting QB.

Where this line will move: Injuries and current season performance will naturally play key roles in determining which way this line goes. With this game at Death Valley, I could see the line climbing to three or higher.

Tiger-Cats at Roughriders: What bettors need to know
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
        Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Saskatchewan Roughriders (-7, 59)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have dominated both sides of the ball over the first three weeks of the regular season, with running back Kory Sheets on a record-setting pace. Sheets and the Roughriders try to keep their perfect record intact when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday. No running back in CFL history has recorded as many rushing yards in the first three weeks as Sheets, who has a whopping 442 - on pace to break Mike Pringle’s CFL rushing record of 2,065 yards.

Tiger-Cats quarterback Henry Burris leads the league in passing yards with 957, including 362 and two touchdowns in a 25-20 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Week 3. Hamilton, however, continues to show big holes in its run defense, allowing a 75-yard gain and three rushing touchdowns against Winnipeg’s lackluster offense. The Tiger-Cats sacked the Blue Bombers six times and recorded one interception but, unless they can slow down Sheets, that might not be enough against Saskatchewan.

        TV: 7 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE TIGER-CATS (1-2, 0-3 ATS): Burris, who has recorded more than 4,000 passing yards in a season nine times, also leads Hamilton in rushing yards with 113. The 38-year-old pivot has spread the workload amongst his receiving corps, with five wideouts (Greg Ellingson, Bakari Grant, Andy Fantuz, Samuel Giguere and Ed Gant) recording more than 100 yards. Fantuz did not play in Week 3 and is considered doubtful for Sunday, while running back C.J. Gable, who also missed last week, did not practice Tuesday.

ABOUT THE ROUGHRIDERS (3-0, 3-0 ATS): Quarterback Darian Durant, who suffered a sprained foot in last week’s 39-28 victory over the Toronto Argonauts, was back at practice Thursday and is expected to start. Durant has completed 54-of-75 passes for eight touchdowns and no interceptions. Saskatchewan’s defense, led by linebacker Renauld Williams (14 tackles, three sacks, one interception), has limited opponents to 88 rushing yards or fewer in each of the first three games and conceded only two touchdowns on the ground.

        TRENDS:

        * Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Saskatchewan.
        * Over is 20-8-1 in the last 29 meetings.
        * Tiger-Cats are 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 meetings.
        * Tiger-Cats are 2-10-1 ATS in their last 13 meetings in Saskatchewan.

        EXTRA POINTS:

        1. The 101st Grey Cup Championship officially sold out this week. The game - to be played at Mosaic Field in Regina on Nov. 24 - would be a home contest for the undefeated Roughriders should they advance to the final.

        2. Hamilton lost to the Edmonton Eskimos 30-20 in Week 2 and was 2-6 against West Division opponents last year.

        3. Saskatchewan’s best start to a season came in 2008, when it went 6-0.

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox (-135, 9)

                      DEMPSTER FOR LESTER

Boston decided to make a pitching change for this game as Jon Lester was the original starter. He will now pitch on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Ryan Dempster is now the scheduled starter and he enters with a mediocre 4.24 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in his 19 games this season. Dempster's biggest problem has been giving up the long ball as he allows 1.63 home runs per nine innings which is the worst percentage among Boston's five regular starting pitchers this season.

CC IF HE CAN PITCH BETTER

C.C. Sabathia is 9-8 with a 4.07 ERA for the Yankees. He needs to improve off his last start when he allowed eight runs and eight hits in four innings pitched at home against the Minnesota Twins. He has allowed four runs or more in three of his last five road starts. Sabathia is seeing the Red Sox for the third time and he owns a win and a loss against them. In the win, the lefty struck out 10 while walking none in just over seven innings. He had different results in the loss back on April 1 when he gave up four runs and eight hits in just five innings. Sabathia’s last start in Boston came on August 30, 2011 when he struck out ten batters in six innings of work.

                      INJURY REPORT

The Yankees’ injury report got a little longer after Zoilo Almonte left Friday’s game with a sprained ankle. He joins Derek Jeter, Jayson Nix, Kevin Youkilis, Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, Mark Teixeira and Francisco Cervelli who are New York hitters that are unavailable. A-Rod hopes to return Monday, while Youkilis, Granderson and Jeter are still a little bit away from helping the team.

Boston had some injury news on Friday as well with Shane Victorino straining a hamstring. The team also put Andrew Bailey on the DL with a shoulder injury that most likely will end his season. The bullpen is already without Andrew Miller and Joel Hanrahan who are each out for the season. Clay Buchholz has been out for awhile with a neck strain and inflammation.

                      TRENDS
