    Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

American League gurus have decided that Josh Donaldson doesn't deserve to be an All-Star this year. I disagree......here are his American League ranks in six different offensive categories........

    -- .319 batting average, 4th in AL

    -- .536 slugging percentage, 5th in AL

    -- .388 on-base percentage, 7th in AL

-- 57 runs batted in, T7 in AL

    -- .924 OPS, 5th in AL

    -- 23 doubles, T7 in AL

Plus he's an excellent defender. If you put A-Rod's name above these stats on a first place team, he'd win the American League MVP.

    *****

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend.......

    13) Bruce Bochy must've been preoccupied with All-Star stuff; his Giants batted out of order Saturday, which cost Buster Posey an RBI double. Don't see that a lot in the major leagues.

    12) Odd situation with the Mets Saturday, when veteran P Shaun Marcum requested that John Buck catch his game, when the backup Anthony Recker was supposed to play. Terry Collins gave Marcum what he wanted, but it can't be great for team chemistry.

Marcum is 1-10, 5.29 this season; he should be thankful he has a job.

    11) Since June 4, Mets' Jeremy Hefner has a 1.64 ERA, best in baseball; Recker caught his game Sunday and Hefner won again, so he can't be as bad a catcher as Marcum apparently thinks he is.

    10) Ike Davis update: Since coming back from AAA, Davis is 3-7 with four walks. Looks like he'll be platooning at 1B with Josh Satin, who is 15 for his last 33, and playing a solid first base. Mets have too many guys who can hit, but don't have a defined position in the field.

    9) Former used car salesman Alan R. Selig takes a lot of grief in this space, but one thing he got very right; Miller Park is a tremendous stadium, a great place to watch a game, no matter how bad the weather. Selig used to eat his lunch in his car watching the ballpark being built.

Miller Park makes you wonder why Minnesota didn't just do the same exact thing when they built their new ballpark. Not having a roof on the ballpark in Minneapolis makes no sense.

    8) If you like to wager on run lines in baseball, note that St Louis is 12-6 when Adam Wainwright starts, with nine of 12 wins by 2+ runs.

    7) Graeme McDowell won a European tour event in France Sunday; in his last eight events, McDowell missed five cuts, won the other three.

    6) Jonas Blixt got his first PGA win at Greenbrier, the 11th first-time winner on Tour this season; last group tried like hell to beat darkness to get their last round in-- they played 18 holes in 3:40.

    5) Thunderstorm Sunday made Greenbrier the 15th tournament out of 28 this season with at least one weather delay.

    4) Atlanta has had 40 inches of rain this year, Seattle only 18.

    3) Miami Hurricanes haven't been to a bowl since 2010, haven't won a bowl since 2006; they've got 18 starters back, including their whole OL, a senior QB- this could be a big year for Al Golden's team. Its been a while.

    2) Baylor Bears won their last two bowl games, scoring 116 points; how long can the Bears keep coach Art Briles in Waco?

    1) Looking through Nebraska stuff, how is Taylor Martinez still playing for the Cornhuskers? Seems like the kid has been in Lincoln since they had Mike Rozier at tailback!!! This is Martinez' senior year (finally); he's started 38 games for Bo Pelini's team.

NFL Games of the Year: Cowboys could end up faves vs. Packers

      NFL Week 15:
Green Bay Packers at Dallas Cowboys (+2)

      Past history:
Green Bay is 3-2 SU AND 3-2 ATS since 2004, the over is 3-2.

      Early look at the Cowboys:
The Cowboys failed to cover the points in seven of eight home games in 2012 and they were just 6-10 against the spread for the season. The pressure is on Jason Garret to improve on a pair of disappointing 8-8 seasons. If he fails to get his team to he playoffs in 2013, his time will likely come to an end in Dallas. There's no shortage of talent in "Big D" on both sides of the ball but consistency has eluded Dallas in recent seasons and it will have to get the monkey off its back if it wants to make the postseason.

      Early look at the Packers:
The Packers appeared to be finished after opening last season 2-3, but they would end up winning nine of their next 10 games and clinch a playoff birth. Despite coming off a successful season, Green Bay's defense looked terrible at times last year, especially against San Francisco. They open the season against the 49ers and they also play Washington, Cincinnati and Baltimore all in the first five weeks of the season.

      Where this line will move:
A lot can happen over 15 weeks of football, but the Cowboys are getting points at home here. If the Packers underperform, we could see the Cowboys favorites on gameday.

Padres losers of nine straight; faves Monday vs. Rockies
                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After fighting back to a 40-40 record following a 9-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on June 28, the San Diego Padres have dropped nine straight games to fall to the basement of the National League West.

Any $100 bettor would be up $584.48 if they had faded the Padres in each game of their current losing streak.

Though they have scored plenty of runs in their three most recent losses to the Washington Nationals, San Diego’s bats have really let them down. In the first six games of their losing streak, the Friars managed just seven runs. Even worse, they posted an average of .180 in those first six losses.

The Padres (-122) return home after a nine-game road trip to host the Colorado Rockies (+113) on Monday. San Diego is a better bet at PETCO Park, posting a 25-18 record to date.

                        flashy,

I finally just emailed Armadillo and asked him.

It's Meat Market by Bruce Feldman. I'm going to read it, too, and Armadillo says he would really like to hear how we like it.

Let me know what you think.

                        Good luck today, buddy!

                            flashy,

I finally just emailed Armadillo and asked him.

It's Meat Market by Bruce Feldman. I'm going to read it, too, and Armadillo says he would really like to hear how we like it.

Let me know what you think.

                            Good luck today, buddy!

I like your Dodgers pick in the Pick 7 tonight. I almost played them, too. I am betting on them tonight. Good luck!
