      Toronto Argonauts vs. Montreal Alouettes
      Pointspread: Montreal -1
      Total: 49

Toronto's offense looked awful in Tuesday night's loss with Zach Collaros at quarterback for an injured Ricky Ray. This followed a 14-point performance the week before in a loss to Calgary. The Argonauts are now 5-4 SU in the East and 4-5 ATS with the total staying UNDER in three of their last five games.

Tanner Marsh got the start for an injured Anthony Calvillo on Tuesday night and threw for 309 yards and a score to pace the win. The Alouettes have been able to claw their way back into the East Division race at 4-5 SU (5-4 ATS) with three SU wins in their last five games and they are 4-1 ATS during this same stretch.

The outcome of this game could very well hinge of Ray's availability for Sunday night, but Toronto's track record against its division rivals over the years is not that good. The Argonauts are 5-15 SU in the last 20 meetings and 8-17 SU in the 25 meetings in Montreal.

Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
      Pointspread: Saskatchewan -7
      Total: 53

The Roughriders have clearly established themselves as the best team in the CFL over the first half of the season with the highest scoring offense (34.6 points) in the league complementing the stingiest defense (22.4). They are 8-1 SU and a profitable 6-3 ATS. The total has gone OVER in four of five road games this season.

Winnipeg fell to 1-8 SU and 3-6 ATS with last week's loss as its current losing streak has now reached seven games. It has failed to cover in four of its last five games and the total has gone OVER in three of those contests. The Blue Bombers are the lowest scoring team in the league (21.3 points) while allowing the most points on defense (32.8).

Saskatchewan has now won nine of the last 10 meetings SU and it is 7-3 ATS. The total has gone OVER in the last four games. It is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has gone OVER in four of the last five games played in Winnipeg.

          • CFL Betting Recap - Week 11

            September 8, 2013

            League Betting Notes

-- Favorites and underdogs went 2-2 straight up in Week 11
-- Favorites and underdogs went 2-2 against the spread in Week 11
-- Home and away teams posted a 2-2 record in Week 11
-- The 'over' and 'under' went 2-2 in Week 11

            Team Betting Notes

-- The shocker of the season came in Sunday's final game, as Winnipeg (2-8) stunned Saskatchewan (8-2) by a 25-13 score. The Blue Bombers, who came in as a nine-point home underdog, entered the week tied with the worst record in the CFL. Winnipeg had failed to cover in their previous three games, including a 48-25 drumming in Regina last weekend.

-- The Roughriders entered the week with the league's best record overall, and they started the season 5-0 ATS. However, they are now just 1-4 ATS over their past five contests.

-- Hamilton (4-6) might have a losing record, but they have been a friend to bettors nonetheless. They covered for the fifth straight game in their Week 11 victory over the BC Lions (6-4).

-- The Lions are a Jekyll and Hyde team. BC has managed an impressive 5-0 record at home, but they have won just once in five trips outside of British Columbia this season.

-- Calgary (8-2) picked up a hard-fought 22-12 win over pesky Edmonton (1-9). The Stamps have now won three straight games, they have gone 6-2 ATS over their past eight contests, and the 'under' has cashed in three of their past four.

-- Toronto (6-4) got revenge against Montreal (4-6) with a 37-30 road win, after slipping up at home against the Alouettes last week. The Argonauts have now won three straight road games.

            • CFL Betting Notes - Week 12

              September 10, 2013

The start of the second half of the 2013 CFL regular season featured the back-end of four home-and-home series that kicked off over the Labor Day Holiday. Calgary completed its sweep of Edmonton with a 22-12 victory last Friday night as a four-point road favorite. On Saturday, Hamilton turned the tables on British Columbia on its home field with a 37-29 win in a game that closed as a pick ‘em.

Toronto evened the score against East Division rival Montreal with a 37-30 win as a three-point road underdog in Sunday’s early game and Saskatchewan was stunned by Winnipeg 25-13 as an eight-point road favorite to close out Week 11.

The following is a brief betting preview for Week 12 in the CFL with the opening pointspread and ‘over/under’ lines provided by TopBet.

              Friday, Sept. 13

              Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Calgary Stampeders
              Point-spread: Calgary -6
              Total: 56 ½

Hamilton finds itself in a jumbled mess in the East at 5-5 straight up. It is one game in back of Toronto and one game ahead of Montreal in the race for the division title. The Tiger-Cats are 5-5 against the spread as well, but they have covered in their last five games. The total has gone OVER in four of those contests.

Calgary is in the thick of the West Division race with an overall record of 8-2 SU and it is a profitable 7-3 ATS this year. The total has gone OVER in six its 10 games and in all four games at home this season. The Stampeders are the second-highest scoring team in the CFL with an average of 32 points a game.

The Tiger-Cats are just 2-8 SU in the last 10 meetings and 4-6 ATS. This will be the first meeting this season, but Calgary won both games last season SU with a split ATS. The total has gone OVER in four of the last five games between the two.

              Saturday, Sept. 14

Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Edmonton Eskimos
              Point-spread: Edmonton -4 ½
              Total: 53 ½

The Blue Bombers stunning 25-13 victory over Saskatchewan last Sunday as an 8 ½-point home underdog snapped a seven-game losing streak, but they are still buried in the basement of the East Division at 2-8 SU. They are slightly better ATS at 4-6 and the total has stayed UNDER in four of five road games this year. Winnipeg’s 21.7 points a game is the lowest scoring average in the league.

Edmonton’s woes continued with a losing streak that has now reached eight games. It is safe to say that at 1-9 SU the Eskimos are out of Grey Cup Playoff contention. They are also 4-6 ATS with the total going OVER in four of five home games this year. They have covered in three of their last four games.

The Eskimos have a slight 6-4 SU edge in the last 10 meetings between these two bottom feeders, but the Blue Bombers have the edge ATS at 6-4. They have covered in six of the last eight meetings with series tied 4-4 SU. The total has gone OVER in the last two games after staying UNDER in the previous three meetings.

              Toronto Argonauts vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders
              Point-spread: Saskatchewan -8
              Total: 54

Toronto’s early lead in the East has been whittled down to just one game with a 1-3 SU record in its last four games. It is now 6-4 SU (5-5 ATS) with the total going OVER in six of the 10 games. The recent downturn can be heavily attributed to the loss of Ricky Ray at quarterback and he remains out of the lineup with a shoulder injury.

The Roughriders will quickly need to figure out what went wrong in last week’s loss now that Calgary is tied with them for the lead in the West at 8-2 SU. Saskatchewan is 6-4 ATS and the total has gone OVER in four of its first six home games this season. It remains the highest scoring team in the CFL with an average of 32.5 points a game.

The Argonauts lost to the Roughriders 39-28 earlier this season as two-point favorites at home. The total went well over the 55-point closing line in that contest. Saskatchewan holds a 7-3 SU lead in the last 10 games of this series, but its edge ATS stands at 5-4-1. The total has gone OVER in the last two meetings, but it did stay UNDER in five-straight games before then.

              Sunday, Sept. 15

Montreal Alouettes vs. British Columbia Lions
              Point-spread: BC- 9
              Total: 52 ½

It has been a roller-coaster ride for Montreal this season, but through it all the defending East champs are just two games back in this year’s division title race at 4-6 SU (5-5 ATS). The total has stayed UNDER in three of its last five games, but the team has scored an average of 29.7 points in its last three contests.

BC is suddenly in need of win after losing two of its last three games to fall two games back in the West at 6-4 SU. It has now failed to cover in four of its last five games and is now 4-6 ATS on the year. The total has gone OVER in its last three games and in six of its 10 games overall.

The Alouettes outlasted the Lions 39-38 in Week 9 as 10-point underdogs at home in a game that went OVER the 47 ½-point line. Montreal has a 6-4 SU edge in the last 10 games of this series, but it have failed to cover in seven of those games. The total has gone OVER in five of the last six meetings.

                    Week 13

Edmonton (2-9) @ Winnipeg (2-9)—Home teams won last 11 series games; Eskimos lost last five visits here, by 7-10-26-12-1 point. Underdogs are 8-2 vs spread in Edmonton’s last ten visits here. Bombers (+5) lost 25-7 in Edmonton last week, turning ball over four times (-4); they’re -16 in turnovers for season and 1-4 at home, though they did upset Roughriders in last home game. Edmonton snapped 8-game skid last week by running ball for 153 yards; they’re 1-4 on road, with only win over TiCats in rain at Guelph in Week 2- they’re 1-1 as favorites this season, with last week only cover. Winnipeg is home dog to a 2-9 team; not good. Four of five Winnipeg home games, six of last eight Eskimo games went over total, but under is 8-3-1 in last dozen series games.

Montreal (4-7) @ Hamilton (5-6)—Tiger Cats are 5-4 in last nine series games, after losing eight of nine to Alouettes before that; Als lost last five visits here, by 37-8-23-8-15-13 points, as home side won eight of last nine series games, with last four in Hamilton going over total (this game is at Guelph, TiCats’ temp home, but you get the idea). Banged-up Alouettes have QB issues with Calvillo out; neither Marsh/Neiswander has proven to be an adequate backup. Alouettes lost last two weeks, allowing 37-36 points; they’re 2-2 as road underdogs, losing away games by 11-3-22 points, with wins at Winnipeg/Toronto. TiCats covered their last six games; they’re 2-2 as home favorites this year, winning home games by 5-23-8 points (3-2 SU). Four of five Hamilton home games this year stayed under total.

Toronto (6-5) @ Calgary (9-2)—Underdogs won SU in last seven series games; Stampeders (+3.5) won 35-14 at Toronto four weeks ago, outrushing Argos 177-74, getting three turnovers (+2) while shutting Toronto out in second half in stopping six-game series losing skid. Argonauts won last two visits here 23-21/22-14. Toronto scored 37-31 points while posting upsets last two weeks; they’ve won last four road games since losing 24-16 in Vancouver in Week 2 road opener- they’re 2-1 as road dogs this year. Red-hot Calgary won last four games; they are 3-2 as home favorites, winning at McMahon by 12-11-15-3-4 points- they won last three weeks despite being -1 in turnovers all three games. Four of last five Calgary games stayed under total, but seven of last nine Toronto games went over.

BC Lions (7-4) @ Saskatchewan (8-3)—Lions lost QB Lulay (shoulder) last week, either unproven DeMarco (threw six passes, one for TD in mop-up role last week) or former Lion Pierce (9-year vet recently re-acquired in trade) gets nod here, in series where BC won five of last seven games, despite losing last two visits to Regina by 23-20/27-21 scores. In its four losses, BC allowed 44-38-39-37 points; they allowed average of 17.4 ppg in their wins. Riders slipped up last two weeks, allowing 25-31 points in games they led at half (outscored 34-10 in second half). Saskatchewan is 3-2 as a home favorite, winning at Taylor Field by 15-37-3-23 points. Lions are -11 in turnovers last seven games, after being even in first four. Nine of last ten series games stayed under total, but three of last four games overall for both sides here went over.

Eskimos at Blue Blombers: What bettors need to know
                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edmonton Eskimos at Winnipeg Blue Bombers (+2.5, 50.5)

The Edmonton Eskimos finally broke out of their eight-game losing streak by beating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week. On Friday, the Eskimos will try for consecutive victories over the Blue Bombers when they travel to Winnipeg. Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly threw three touchdowns and ran for 113 yards in the win - enough to earn him offensive player of the week honors and take the team rushing lead with 530 yards.

Winnipeg managed three sacks last week and is tied for the league lead with 41. Starting quarterback Justin Goltz was pulled for the second half last week and replaced by Max Hall, who fared slightly better but could not orchestrate a touchdown drive in the 25-7 loss. The Blue Bombers won their last home game, but unless they can slow down Reilly and establish their own offensive game - worst in the league with 224 points - even struggling opponents such as Edmonton might be too much to handle.

                      TV: 8 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE ESKIMOS (2-9): Reilly connected twice for touchdowns with slotback Fred Stamps, who leads the league in receiving yards with 821 and has already tied his career-high in touchdowns with nine. Linebacker J.C. Sherritt returned last week after undergoing surgery to repair his left hand but left the game in the fourth quarter. Sherritt finished with two tackles and recovered a fumble in the first quarter.

ABOUT THE BLUE BOMBERS (2-9): Winnipeg traded veteran quarterback Buck Pierce to BC, leaving Goltz and Hall as its two main options under centre. Slotback Terrence Edwards leads the team with 405 receiving yards, but only he and slotback Clarence Denmark (368) have more than 300 yards in the air. The Blue Bombers’ defensive line has accounted for 30 of the team’s 41 sacks and defensive end Alex Hall is tied for the league lead with 12.

                      TRENDS:

                      * Eskimos are 0-4 ATS in their last four meetings in Winnipeg.
                      * Under is 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings in Winnipeg.
                      * Eskimos are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
                      * Blue Bombers are 0-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record.

                      EXTRA POINTS:

                      1. Winnipeg announced Tuesday it will start Max Hall on Friday.

                      2. Edmonton’s defense - last in the West Division with 301 points allowed - has given up only 29 points over the last two games and has 12 sacks in its last three.

                      3. The Eskimos and Blue Bombers - a combined 4-18 in 2013 - are four points behind the Montreal Alouettes for the final playoff spot.

                            Team Betting Notes

-- The Saskatchewn (8-4) freefall continues, as the Roughriders lost their third in a row straight up, and they have now failed to over in six of their past seven after starting the season 5-0 SU and ATS.

-- Toronto (8-4) is now 3-0 SU over the past three weeks, with each victory coming away from Rogers Centre. In fact, the Argonauts have rattled off five consecutive road wins, giving them the CFL's best road record at 5-1. The Argos have covered each of the past three games, and the 'over' has also connected in each contest.

-- Hamilton (5-7) picked up a 28-26 victory over Montreal (4-8), but they failed to cover a 7.5-point spread, their first ATS loss in seven games dating back to July 27.

-- Edmonton has now collected victories in back-to-back games for the first time this season, and they have covered in five of the past six outings.

                            • CFL Betting Notes - Week 14

                              September 23, 2013

The CFL regular season continues to grind on with four non-divisional matchups on this week’s slate. Looking back at the results for Week 13, Edmonton completed a home-and-home sweep over Winnipeg last Friday with a 35-27 victory as a three-point road favorite. This past Saturday’s action kicked things off with Hamilton squeezing by Montreal 28-26 as an eight-point favorite at home. Toronto stayed hot in Saturday’s nightcap with a stunning 33-27 win over Calgary as a 7 ½-point road underdog.

The final game of the week featured a West Division battle between British Columbia and Saskatchewan with the Lions coming away with a huge 24-22 victory as six-point underdogs on the road.

The following is a brief betting preview for Week 14 in the CFL with the opening pointspread and ‘over/under’ lines provided by 5Dimes.

                              Friday, Sept. 27

British Columbia Lions vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
                              Point-spread: BC -6
                              Total: 50 ½

The Lions’ win over the Roughriders tightened things up in the division title race with both teams now trailing Calgary by just one game at 8-4 straight up. BC is 6-6 against the spread this season with the total staying UNDER in four of its last seven games. Thomas DeMarco completed 18-of-33 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns in place of an injured Travis Lulay in Sunday’s game against Saskatchewan.

The Blue Bombers have sunk to the bottom of the CFL in most major categories including wins and losses with an overall record of 2-10 SU (4-8 ATS). They have also given-up the most points in the CFL (368) while averaging the fewest points per game on offense (20.9).

BC is actually just 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings, but 4-0 SU in the last four including a 27-20 victory at home on Aug. 5 as an 11-point home favorite. The total has stayed UNDER in five of the last six meetings overall.

                              Saturday, Sept. 21

                              Calgary Stampeders vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
                              Point-spread: Hamilton -2 ½
                              Total: 56 ½

Calgary still has the best SU record in the CFL at 9-3 and it has covered in seven of its 12 games this season. The total has gone OVER in seven of the 12 games as well. The Stampeders are 4-2 both SU and ATS on the road this year and the total has stayed UNDER in their last three games away from home.

The Tiger-Cats remain in the thick of the East Division title battle at 6-6 both SU and ATS, which puts them two games in back of Toronto and two games ahead of Montreal. The total has gone OVER in five of their last seven games after averaging 31 points a game during that stretch.

The Stampeders drew first blood in this season’s series with a 26-22 victory earlier this month as 5.5-point home favorites. Calgary has now won seven of the last eight meetings SU, but Hamilton is 3-1 ATS in the last four. The total has gone OVER in four of the last six games between the two.

                              Toronto Argonauts vs. Edmonton Eskimos
                              Point-spread: PICK
                              Total: 52

The Argonauts are arguably the hottest team in the CFL right now after back-to-back victories over Saskatchewan and Calgary as underdogs on the road. They are 8-4 SU (7-5 ATS) overall and 5-1 SU and ATS on the road this season. Zack Collaros continues to do an excellent job at quarterback for an injured Ricky Ray with 1,822 passing yards and 12 touchdown throws.

Edmonton fattened its season record at Winnipeg’s expense the past few weeks but it is still just 3-9 SU (6-6 ATS) on the year. The Eskimos are 5-1 ATS in their last six games and the total has gone OVER in seven of their last nine contests.

These two met in late August with Toronto coming away with a tight 36-33 victory as a nine-point favorite at home. It has now won the last two games in this matchup SU after losing the previous five meetings. Edmonton has a 4-1 advantage ATS in the last five games and the total has gone OVER in four of the last six meetings.

                              Sunday, Sept. 22

                              Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Montreal Roughriders
                              Point-spread: Saskatchewan -3
                              Total: 53 ½

The Roughriders’ current skid reached three games with this past Sunday’s loss. They are 8-4 SU and 6-6 ATS after failing to cover in six of their last seven games. The total has gone OVER in three of their last five games. Saskatchewan remains the highest scoring team in the CFL with an average of 31.3 points a game.

Montreal has lost its last three games as well to fall to 4-8 SU on the year. It is also 6-6 ATS overall, but just 2-4 ATS at home this season. The Alouettes have actually covered in four of their last six games and the total has gone OVER in three of their last five.

Saskatchewan beat Montreal 24-21 on Aug. 17, but it could not cover as a 12-point favorite at home. The Alouettes had won seven of the previous nine meetings SU and they are 4-1 ATS in the last five including this season’s first game. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the last four meetings.
