    Armadillo: Thursday's six-pack

According to Phil Steele's magazine, college football teams playing the six hardest schedules this coming season.........

    6) Iowa State-- Lost 13 starters, breaking in new QB.

    5) Arkansas-- New coach, new QB, seven new starters on offense.

    4) Purdue-- Allowed 46 ppg last three times they got to a bowl game.

    3) California-- New coach; 2-8 vs spread as home dog since 2005.

    2) Oklahoma-- New QB Bell threw 16 passes, ran ball 60 times LY.

    1) Florida-- Lost 7 starters on defense (5 of LY's top 6 tacklers).

    *****

Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: Random stuff as summer starts..........

    13) Only three road teams have won a Game 7 of the NBA Finals: Celtics in ’69 and ’74 and the ’78 Washington Bullets, but there also haven’t been that many seven-game series in the Finals.

    12) Game 6 got a 14.7 overnight TV rating, which apparently is very good, so the NBA is glad there’s a Game 7. Read into that what you will.

    11) When the Dodgers’ put the finishing touches on their $230M payroll, do you think they envisioned Nick Punto leading off at any point this year? Me either.

    10) Good news for Tri-City Valley Cats, the Astros' A farm team that plays over the river in Troy; Mark Appel, the Astros' top draft pick, is expected to play for the Valley Cats sometime soon. Doubt he'll be in Class A ball long, but would be fun to see him pitch before he moves on.

    9) New Jersey governor Chris Christie is a Dallas Cowboy fan, which is interesting, seeing as the Giants play in New Jersey’s Swamp Stadium. Christie is quirky and honest and seems like a good guy-- kind of wish he'd run for President. .

    8) At one point this spring, the Oakland A’s were 60-1 to win the World Series; now they’re 8-1. Good starting pitching will do that to odds.

    7) Texas Rangers’ infielder Jeff Baker is on the DL with a sprained thumb he hurt while….giving/getting a high five. Seriously.

    6) If the Celtic-Clipper trade doesn’t happen, you think Doc Rivers will coach in Boston next winter? Could be a little awkward, no?

    5) Penn State's basketball team went 10-21 LY; since then, they've had four underclassmen transfer out of school. Remember, scholarships are one-year renewable deals, so teams can run kids off, if they so choose.

    4) Angels dropped Josh Hamilton to #7 in order against Joe Saunders, a crafty lefty; Hamilton went 0-3 and is now hitting .210.

    3) With Gronkowski's injury issues and Hernandez' potential legal woes, you wonder of Tim Tebow is in Foxboro to become a tight end?

    2) National League teams are 23-46 in AL parks (DH games) this season; American League teams are 32-46 in NL parks (games with no DH).

    1) If you’re a Miami fan and you’re at the Finals and your team is only down five points in the last minute, how do you leave early?

Seriously, whats the freakin’ rush? Lot of people left, then couldn’t get back in when Game 6 went OT. Serves them right.

NFL Games of the Year: Broncos big faves with RG3 in town

Odds are out for the biggest and best games of the upcoming NFL season. Covers Expert Matt Fargo gives you his insight into some of these marquee matchups and predicts where the odds could move before kickoff.

      NFL Week 8:
Washington Redskins at Denver Broncos (-9)

      Past History:
      Washington 2-1 SU, 3-0 ATS, 2-1 O/U since 2001

      Early look at the Redskins:
All eyes will be on the return of Robert Griffin III and how his knee will hold up after injuring it in last year's playoffs. Washington was the surprise team out of the NFC, closing the regular season with seven straight wins before blowing a 14-0 lead against Seattle in the wildcard round. The NFC East will be tough again but a healthy defense could keep the Redskins in the postseason.

      Early look at the Broncos:
While not many expected the Broncos to contend last season, Peyton Manning made sure that wasn't the case. After a 2-3 start, Denver went on to win its last 11 regular season games but was upset in the divisional round of the playoffs against Baltimore as a 9.5-point home favorite. The Broncos are one of the favorites again in the AFC and overwhelming favorites to win the AFC West.

      Where this line will move:
This game does not take place until Week 8 so a lot of the line movement will be dictated by what each team does coming into this game. The Broncos will again be the public darling which could force an even higher line.

        Armadillo's Write-Up

        Thursday, June 20

Spurs had a 5-point lead with 0:23 left in Game 6, couldn't close series out, how do they react 46 hours after OT loss? In their three series wins, Ginobili's plus/minus was +3/+6/+19.......in three losses, -23/-22/-21. If Ginobili dribble penetrates, James is playing free safety at foul line for steals that start Heat fast breaks. Miami is now 0-8 vs spread in game following its last eight wins- they're 5-7 vs spread as home favorite in playoffs. If you add up first 2:00 of all six games, it is Spurs with 31-19 edge. San Antonio is 8-2 vs spread on road for this playoff season (7-3 SU). Miami held Green to 1-7 in Game 6; who will step up and make a big shot in last minute, like Allen did in Game 6? 12 of Miami's 15 wins in playoffs have been by 10+ points.

Spurs at Heat: What bettors need to know
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

San Antonio Spurs at Miami Heat (-6, 189.5)

        Best-of-seven series tied 3-3.

After losing a late lead in Game 6 in devastating fashion, the San Antonio Spurs attempt to become the first road team in 35 years to win Game 7 of the NBA Finals in Thursday’s decisive matchup with the Miami Heat. San Antonio had a five-point lead with 28.1 seconds left in regulation on Tuesday before Miami rallied to force overtime and eventually claim a 103-100 victory. The Heat haven’t won back-to-back games in four weeks.

Miami trailed by 13 points late in the third quarter of Game 6 and the home fans were scurrying to the exits when the Heat trailed by five points in the final half-minute. But Ray Allen drained the game-tying 3-pointer with 5.2 seconds left and Miami outplayed San Antonio over the second half of overtime to keep alive its hopes of winning back-to-back titles. “It’s so hard. It’s the hardest thing,” forward LeBron James said Wednesday of repeating as champions. “I said last year was the hardest thing I’ve ever done – winning my first. Last year don’t even come close to what we’ve gone through in this postseason and in these finals.” The 1978 Washington Bullets were the last team to win a road Game 7 in the NBA Finals, beating the Seattle SuperSonics.

        TV:
        9 p.m. ET, ABC

        ABOUT THE SPURS:
Veteran guard Manu Ginobili said after Game 6 that he couldn’t see how his team could recover from the demoralizing loss. The mental side will be an important factor in Game 7 as will bouncing back physically, especially for 37-year-old power forward Tim Duncan. The first half of Game 6 was vintage Duncan as he scored 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting. But the future Hall of Famer had just five points after halftime. “There’s no being tired at this point,” Duncan said in his Wednesday media session. “We’ve got one more game to win, and that’s all that matters.” Forward Kawhi Leonard had a monster 22-point, 11-rebound performance in Game 6 but 3-point shooter Danny Green had his first poor game of the series, going 1-of-5 from behind the arc. Green has made an NBA Finals record 26 3-pointers.

        ABOUT THE HEAT:
James rebounded from a slow start to notch his fourth career NBA Finals triple-double with 32 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. He scored 18 points in the fourth quarter and made a key 3-pointer in the late rally that was punctuated by Allen’s tying 3-pointer. The health of guard Dwyane Wade is a major concern after he injured his surgically repaired left knee in the first half of Game 6. Wade has been ineffective for much of the postseason due to an injured right knee. “There’s one game left,” Wade said Wednesday. “Whatever you have inside of you, you muster it up. So I’ll be fine.” Center Chris Bosh rejected Green’s tying 3-point attempt at the end of overtime and has posted four double-doubles in five games after underachieving for most of the postseason.

        TRENDS:

        * The Spurs are 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a S.U. loss.
        * The Heat are 0-8 ATS in their last eight games following a S.U. win.
        * The over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
        * The over is 15-5-1 in the Heat's last 21 games playing on one days rest.

        BUZZER BEATERS:

        1. Miami is looking to become the fourth team to rally from a 3-2 deficit with two consecutive home victories. The others are the 1988 Los Angeles Lakers, the 1994 Houston Rockets and the 2010 Lakers.

        2. Home teams have a 14-3 record in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

        3. San Antonio is 4-0 in NBA Finals and only one of its previous series required a Game 7 – when the Spurs defeated the Detroit Pistons in 2005.
