    Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

According to ESPN.com's Jim Bowden, the six starting pitchers most likely to be traded before the July 31 trading deadline..........

95% Ricky Nolasco, Marlins-- He makes more than minimum wage, right?

90% Matt Garza, Cubs-- Has to pitch better than he did last start.

70% Scott Feldman, Cubs--Theo Epstein is having a fire sale next month.

70% Josh Johnson, Jays-- $13.75M salary might scare people away.

65% Bud Norris, Astros-- Commish should make Houston keep him.

60% Kevin Correia, Twins-- Would help team that scores lot of runs.

    *****

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Randsom stuff with the weekend here.....

    13) There have been 111 extra inning games this season; all-time record is 237, set two years ago- no other year had more than 220.

    12) I like to find unusual trends, so I was disappointed to see in the 11 games this year where a pitcher had 30+ called strikes, there was a different home plate umpire in all eleven games.

    11) You watch a replay of the Arizona-Dodger brawl the other night, and I watched it live too, and you wonder how Yasiel Puig didn't get suspended for at least a game? Puig threw a couple haymakers; whether he got drilled by a pitch or not, thats worth a game's suspension.

    10) Jockey named Ramon Dominguez was told to retire by doctors after he got hurt in a spill at Aqueduct this winter; you forget how dangerous it is to ride a racehorse-- last time I rode a horse was in 8th grade, and it scared the hell out of me, probably the horse, too. We wish Mr Dominguez well.

    9) Diamondbacks' pitcher Patrick Corbin wears a mouthpiece when he pitches, which is a good idea, just highly unusual.

    8) Arizona signed hoop coach Sean Miller to an extension thru 2018; funny how these extensions always go five years out, and are signed just before summer recruiting season starts. Thats a coincidence, I'm sure.

    7) Why would the Bengals agree to be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks? How does this help them get better?

    6) Alabama landed a hotshot QB from Norman, Oklahoma? Don't they have any good college teams in Oklahoma? What are the odds that Nick Saban will still be in Tuscaloosa five years from now-- I mean, if they keep winning national titles, won't the expectations become to great to meet?

    5) Good news, bad news for UConn basketball this week.......

Good news: Huskies qualified academically for the NCAAs next year, after they werre ineligible this past season.

Bad news: assistant coach George Blaney retired after 43 years as a coach. Highly respected by all, Blaney was a steadying influence.

    4) Milwaukee put Ryan Braun (thumb) on the DL for this first time in his career. Braun is hitting .304 with 36 RBI, big loss for the Brewers.

    3) What medical treatment is there that is legal in Germany that is illegal here; now Jermaine O'Neal is going there for treatment? This would be a good story for 60 Minutes; is our government overprotective, or does the German government not care? I'm curious about this.

    2) Does Chris Berman get to choose which events he covers? Because if he doesn't, why on God's green earth would ESPN let him near a golf course, let alone the US Open?

    1) If the golf course at the US Open is so hard, how come there are two amateurs in the top 12? Shouldn't it be really hard for them, too?

Bruins at Blackhawks: What bettors need to know
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boston Bruins at Chicago Blackhawks (-144, 5)

      Blackhawks lead best-of-seven series 1-0.

After putting forth a thrilling triple-overtime classic in the opener of the Stanley Cup final, the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks will look to provide an encore in Game 2 on Saturday when the Original Six rivals reconvene at the United Center. Andrew Shaw scored 12:08 into the third extra session as Presidents' Trophy-winning Chicago overcame a pair of two-goal deficits to post a 4-3 triumph in the fifth-longest game in Stanley Cup final history. Shaw ended the wild affair after tallying on a double deflection - although the game was tied at 3-3 in the third period as the puck caromed off the skate of Boston defenseman Andrew Ference and into the net.

"It's those two tough bounces that went in and there's nothing you can do," said Boston's Patrice Bergeron, who was honored as the King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner on Friday. The award is presented to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice. The Bruins will need that leadership to rebound in Game 2 - unless they'll head back to Beantown in an 0-2 deficit in a Stanley Cup for the second time in three years.

      TV:
8 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, RDS

      ABOUT THE BRUINS:
Top-line wing Nathan Horton participated in practice on Friday and is a game-time decision for Saturday's tilt. "He's day-to-day and that's where he is," Boston coach Claude Julien said of Horton, who sustained an unspecified upper-body injury after an exchange with Chicago defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson during the first overtime in Game 1. "That's why he practiced (Friday) and we'll have to make a decision on Nate (Saturday). But it was encouraging to see him out there today, and if he feels good, he's in the lineup." Should Horton missed the contest, Tyler Seguin would likely move to the top line - as he did during the latter stages of Game 1.

      ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS:
Jonathan Toews was named as the Frank J. Selke Award winner, which goes to the league's best defensive forward. The Chicago captain claimed the award over finalists Bergeron and Detroit superstar Pavel Datsyuk. "To be able to go head to head with guys like that in the playoffs, and to know them from the past, you understand how much they mean to their teams and how much they contribute offensively and defensively," Toews said. Toews registered a stunning plus-28 rating in the regular season, but has mustered just one goal and set up eight others in the playoffs.

      TRENDS:

      * Over is 5-0 in Blackhawks’ last five Stanley Cup Finals games.
      * Blackhawks are 12-3 in their last 15 Saturday games.
      * Bruins are 5-1 in their last six overall.

      OVERTIME

      1. Boston's top line of David Krejci (NHL-leading nine goals, 14 assists), Horton (seven goals, 11 assists) and Milan Lucic (five goals, 11 assists) has combined for 21 goals and 36 assists in the postseason. Lucic tallied twice in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final.

      2. Blackhawks G Corey Crawford and Bruins G Tuukka Rask set career highs with 51 and 59 saves, respectively, in Game 1.

      3. Boston yielded more goals on Wednesday versus Chicago (four) than it did in the entire Eastern Conference final against Pittsburgh (two).

                  Guys,

Our source for NASCAR previews isn't putting out as good an article as they did last year. Do any of you guys know of a better preview article for NASCAR?

If so, get my email from the mods and shoot me a link. I sure would like to have one of those really detailed previews we were getting last season.

                  Thanks, guys! Good luck today!

NASCAR betting: Quicken Loans 400 preview

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads north to the Irish Hills and the Michigan International Speedway for the Quicken Loans 400 Sunday.

Michigan is one of the fastest racetracks on the circuit and the wide corners allow for passing.

                  Here’s our betting preview:

                  Favorite: Jimmie Johnson (+400). . . 521 points

Johnson, who leads all drivers with 521 points, dominated last week’s race at Pocono and picked up his third win of the season. Johnson has four top-fives and nine top-10s in 22 career starts at MIS.

                  Live dog: Clint Bowyer (+2500)

Bowyer has the highest driver’s rating for the last four races at Michigan. He finished in seventh place in both races at MIS last year and finished in eighth place in the pair of races in 2011.

                  Long shot: Ryan Newman (+4000)

Newman posted his second top-five finish of the season last week in Pocono. He has two wins, five top-fives and seven top-10s in 22 starts at MIS.

                  Key stat:
Roush Fenway Racing has 12 Sprint Cup Series wins at Michigan, the most of any team.

                  Notable quotable:

“Regardless of new pavement or not, it’s wide-open racing, and you can run from top to bottom. The biggest thing used to be to find grip there. But with the new surface, there is a ton of grip now. Before, you had grip for maybe five laps, and then you’d just be out to lunch. But now the tire wear is all out the window, and the racetrack is very fast. And the wide racetrack is good. That’s what makes Michigan so exciting and so fun. That’s the biggest deal about it.” Kyle Bush on MIS.

Odds to win the Quicken Loans 400 courtesy of JustBet:

                  Jimmie Johnson 4-1
                  Matt Kenseth 7-1
                  Kasey Kahne 7-1

Saturday's MLB betting cheat sheet and tips
                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                      National

Chicago Cubs at New York Mets (-118, 7)

Weather: Temperatures in the mid-70s and wind blowing from left to right at nine mph.

Probable starters: Cubs RH Scott Feldman (5-5, 3.22 ERA) vs. Mets LH Jon Niese (3-5, 4.24)

Feldman is 1-1 with a 4.63 ERA in two starts against New York. Niese has recorded four straight quality starts but has not won since May 16. He is 2-3 with a 5.61 ERA in six starts against the Cubs. The Cubs are 5-1 in the last six meetings in New York.

San Francisco Giants at Atlanta Braves (-196, 7)

Weather: Sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s.

Probable starters: Giants RH Chad Gaudin (2-1, 2.32 ERA) vs. Braves LH Mike Minor (8-2, 2.44)

Gaudin bounced between the bullpen and the rotation early in his career but had not made a start since 2009 before stepping up with back-to-back quality starts this month. Minor has not allowed more than two earned runs in his last seven outings and has recorded eight straight quality starts. The Giants are 6-1 in their last seven vs. National League East.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Pittsburgh Pirates (N/A, N/A)

Weather: Temperatures in the high-70s with wind blowing out to left field at seven mph.

Probable starters: Dodgers LH Clayton Kershaw (5-4, 1.88 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Brandon Cumpton (NR)

Kershaw is 2-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in seven starts against Pittsburgh. Cumpton was 4-4 with a 3.31 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) with Triple-A Indianapolis. The under is 4-1 in Kershaws last five starts vs. Pirates.

Philadelphia Phillies at Colorado Rockies (-144, 10)

Weather: Temperatures in the high-70s with a 30 percent chance of rain.

Probable starters: Phillies RH Jonathan Pettibone (3-2, 3.70 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (3-1, 2.17)

Pettibone was unbeaten and had not allowed more than three runs in any of his first seven starts. Chatwood had to skip his last turn due to soreness in his triceps, which forced him out of a June 3 start against Cincinnati after giving up one run in four innings. The Phillies are 20-8 in the last 28 meetings in Colorado.

St. Louis Cardinals at Miami Marlins (+174, 7.5)

                      Weather: Retractable roof

Probable starters: Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (8-1, 3.00 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Tom Koehler (0-4, 3.91)

Lynn has won three straight decisions since suffering his lone to the Chicago Cubs on May 7. Koehler took a no-decision in his last outing when he gave up four runs and six hits in seven innings against the New York Mets. The over is 7-1 in Cardinals last eight games following a loss.

Milwaukee Brewers at Cincinnati Reds (-168, 8.5)

Weather: Temperatures in the low-80s with wins blowing right to left at seven mph.

Probable starters: Brewers RH Yovani Gallardo (5-6, 4.74 ERA) vs. Reds RH Homer Bailey (4-4, 3.47)

Gallardo has lasted just four innings on two occasions this year, the first in Cincinnati on May 10 when he walked a season high-tying five men. After ending May on a sour note, Bailey has yielded three earned runs in 15 innings this month. The over is 9-3-2 in Gallardo's last 14 starts with four days of rest.

Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres (-102, 8)

Weather: Temperatures will be in the low-60s.

Probable starters: Diamondbacks LH Wade Miley (4-5, 4.89 ERA) vs. Padres RH Jason Marquis (8-2, 3.59)

After giving up seven runs in back-to-back starts, Miley has turned in two consecutive quality outings. He received a no-decision against the Dodgers on Monday, when he allowed three runs on nine hits over six innings. Marquis' surprising season continued against Atlanta on Monday, when he allowed two runs over 7 2/3 innings en route to winning his seventh straight decision. Todd Tichenor is behind the plate. The over is 8-3-1 in Tichenors last 12 games behind home plate vs. Arizona.

                      American

Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles (-102, 9.5)

Weather: Low-80s and sunny skies. Winds will blow from left to right at 10 mph.

Probable starters: Red Sox RH John Lackey (3-5, 3.14 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Freddy Garcia (3-3, 4.47)

Lackey is 11-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 19 career starts vs. the Orioles. Garcia won for the third time in four starts in his last outing, holding the Los Angeles Angels to two runs over six innings. Jeff Nelson will behind the plate calling balls and strikes. The Red Sox are 1-5 in their last six games with Nelson behind home plate.

Toronto Blue Jays at Texas Rangers (-118, 10)

Weather: Temperatures in the low-90s but there is a 30 percent chance of rain.

Probable starters: Blue Jays RH R.A. Dickey (5-8, 5.11 ERA) vs. Rangers RH Josh Lindblom (0-1, 5.91)

Dickey was tagged for seven runs on 10 hits over five innings against the White Sox last time out and has lost three of his last four starts. Lindblom was handed a spot start earlier this week with Aexi Ogando hurt. He held the Cleveland Indians to three runs over six strong innings, prompting manager Ron Washington to give him another turn. The Blue Jays are 5-0 in their last five games as an underdog.

Sanchez' one-hitter last month marked the first time he has defeated the Twins (1-2 in five starts) despite a nifty 2.56 ERA. Deduno was hit hard while losing to the Tigers on May 24, when he allowed six runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings in his first start of the season. The Tigers are 17-6 in the last 23 meetings in Minnesota.

Danks is coming off a dominant outing on June 8, when he held the Oakland Athletics to one run and three hits over eight innings while retiring the final 21 batters he faced. Harrell has won only one of his last eight starts despite yielding fewer than two earned runs four times in that span. White Sox are 1-10 in their last 11 road games.

The Mariners are 17-6 in Hernandez's last 23 starts vs. the Athletics.
