    Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

-- Boston beat the Rangers 3-2 15:40 into OT, the 18th overtime game in the NHL playoffs this spring.

-- LA Kings scored goals with 1:43 and 1:21 left to stun San Jose 3-2 and take a 2-0 lead in that series. Defending champs won their last six games.

-- Home teams are now 5-0 in second round of NHL playoffs.

-- Verlander vs Darvish in Arlington, so of course the game ended 10-4.

-- 48 hours ago, Tampa Bay Rays were riding a 6-game win streak; now, Price is on the DL and they've lost two in row, as closer Rodney coughed up a 3-1 ninth inning lead in a bad loss to Boston Thursday night.

-- Stephen Strasburg got his first win since Opening Day (8 starts), which means one thing: I'm against him in my fantasy league this week.

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Random thoughts with weekend here......

    13) Powerball tonight is worth over $550M, almost enough to buy the Sacramento Kings; I’ve never bought one of those tickets, don’t think I’m starting now. Wonder if its that much fun to be rich? Probably is.

    12) 6-5 freshman Royce O’Neale scored 11 ppg for Denver last season; now he’s transferring to Baylor, as the trend of BCS schools poaching from mid-majors continues.

    11) Whats up at Tulane? Yesterday we talked about their best player transferring to San Diego State; today, a seldom-used freshman transferred to Florida Gulf Coast. Green Wave is in the new AAC, which is really similar to Conference USA; too bad they won’t have as good a roster as they had LY.

    10) Knicks took advantage of George Hill's absence (concussion) to beat Pacers by 10 and stay alive- they still trail Indiana 3-2. Game 6 is Saturday night at Conseco. Carmelo Anthony had 28 points but still shot under 50% (12-26) from floor- he took 28 shots, had zero assists. Great teammate.

    9) Mets have played 13 series this year; for what its worth, over is 21-5 in the first two games of those series, 3-8-1 in all other games.

    8) Media outlets were reporting the Atlanta Hawks (44-38 this season) were going to fire Larry Drew, but they've committed to Drew for one more season. Why would you fire a guy who had a winning record? Then again, the Clippers might fire Vinny Del Negro, and they were better than Atlanta. Coaching in the NBA has to be a crazy existence.

    7) Other than Marlins/Astros, two glorified minor league teams, the Angels have the worst record in baseball, which is amazingly bad.

Plus, they’re paying most of Vernon Wells’ contract, and he’s doing way better in the Bronx than he ever did for the Halos.

    6) Keegan Bradley shot a 60 Thursday, 26th PGA Tour pro since 1960 to shoot 59 or 60 in a tournament. Bradley is the only one of those 26 who shot a 60 with more than one bogey.

    5) ESPNU is carrying the NBA Draft Combine this week; interesting to see what they put prospective draftees through. I’m looking forward to going to NBA Summer League at UNLV in mid-July; that’s always a fun couple of days to sit there and watch guys try to earn professional jobs, either in the NBA or overseas.

    4) Why do the Mets keep batting Ike Davis cleanup? Why does Davis start? Why is he still in the major leagues? All fair Met-related questions. Even my 87-year old dad has turned on Davis, and he is very loyal Met fan.

    3) Rockies led San Francisco 6-0 in 3rd inning, but lost 8-6, their 10th loss in a row to the defending world champs.

    2) 41-year old Reid Ryan, Nolan Ryan's son, is new President of Houston Astros; you wonder if his father will eventually leave the Rangers and join his son in Houston.

    1) Jeff Van Gundy took an indirect slap at Derrick Rose in first quarter of Spurs-Warriors last night, commending David Lee for playing while less than 100%, since he saw that his team was missing firepower. Van Gundy said it was selfless of Lee, which pretty much infers that he considers Rose to be selfish for sitting out until he feels he is 100% ready to go.

Orb draws rail, Preakness Stakes odds adjusted

Orb, the Kentucky Derby winner and favorite to win the 2013 Preakness Stakes, drew the rail for the second leg of the Triple Crown and quickly had his horse racing odds adjusted to win at Pimlico Saturday.

Oddsmakers have moved Orb from +150 to Even money after Wednesday’s post positions were announced.

Drawing post No. 1 in the Preakness isn’t nearly as telling as drawing the post in the Kentucky Derby, especially with a short nine-horse field. Orb’s team would have like to have drawn a post closer to the outside but the horse did win the Fountain of Youth Stakes from the rail back in February.

Orb is a +240 long shot to win the Triple Crown.

Here are the posts and odds for the nine horses competing in the 2013 Preakness Stakes:

      No. 1: Orb: (Even)
      No. 2: Goldencents (+800)
      No. 3: Titletown Five (+3,000)
      No. 4: Departing (+600)
      No. 5: Mylute (+500)
      No. 6: Oxbow (+1,500)
No. 7: Will Take Charge (+1,200)
      No. 8: Govenor Charlie (+1,200)
      No. 9: Itsmyluckyday (+1,200)

Senators at Penguins: What bettors need to know
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ottawa Senators at Pittsburgh Penguins (-190, 5.5)

        Penguins lead best-of-seven series 1-0.

When they were at even strength, the Ottawa Senators more than held their own against the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins in the opener of their Eastern Conference second-round series. After allowing two power-play goals - and a short-handed one to boot - the seventh-seeded Senators will look to stay out of the penalty box and leave the Steel City with a split following Game 2 on Friday. Chris Kunitz and defenseman Paul Martin each scored with the man advantage and Pascal Dupuis tallied while his team was short-handed as Pittsburgh breezed to a 4-1 triumph on Tuesday.

The Penguins went 2-for-4 on the power play in Game 1 after going 7-for-21 in their first-round series versus the eighth-seeded New York Islanders. Ottawa is no slouch when it is shorthanded, killing off a league-best 88 percent of its opponent's power plays. "If we break even on the special teams battle, it gives us a good chance to win," Senators coach Paul MacLean said.

        TV:
7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports, CBC, RDS

        ABOUT THE SENATORS:
Jared Cowen struggled in Tuesday's setback as Martin's goal early in the first period deflected off the Ottawa defenseman and into the net. Cowen also had a key turnover behind his own goal which resulted in Malkin's tally. "Most of the things we're having trouble with are just mental fixes," Cowen told the Ottawa Citizen. "There's nothing we haven't seen before. In the playoffs, we tend to overanalyze things. Some things get blown up."

        ABOUT THE PENGUINS:
Evgeni Malkin, who collected a goal and an assist in Game 1, joined Dupuis and Jarome Iginla with seven-game point streaks in the postseason. The reigning Hart Trophy winner, Malkin sits one point behind Boston's David Krejci for the NHL lead in the playoffs. Veteran Tomas Vokoun has certainly fared well since replacing Marc-Andre Fleury to start Game 6 in the first round. Vokoun, who made 35 saves on Tuesday, has stopped 101 of 105 shots en route to winning his last three starts.

        TRENDS:

        * Senators are 0-4 in the last four meetings.
        * Senators are 1-5 in the last six meetings in Pittsburgh.
        * Penguins are 40-12 in their last 52 home games.
        * Under is 8-1 in Penguins’ last nine vs. a team with a winning record.

        OVERTIME

        1. Iginla has eight assists, leaving him one shy of his career high - set over the course of 26 games with Calgary during the 2004 playoffs.

        2. Ottawa D Eric Gryba suffered an upper-body injury in Game 1. Should Gryba be unable to play, Andre Benoit is expected to be inserted into the lineup.

        3. Pittsburgh has won all four meetings with Ottawa in 2013.
