Fullcourt press: Saturday's NBA betting notes
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detroit Pistons at Charlotte Bobcats (-1.5, 198.5)

The Charlotte Bobcats will be in an unaccustomed role of favorites when they host the skidding Detroit Pistons. Charlotte will be seeking a season high-tying third consecutive victory against a Detroit squad that has dropped 10 consecutive games and is coming off a 14-point loss at red-hot Miami on Friday. The Pistons’ margin of defeat during the 10-game skid is a bloated 17.2 points. The over is 5-0 in the last five meetings.

Toronto Raptors at New York Knicks (-6, 192)

New York posted a 99-94 victory in Toronto on Friday and remain one game behind Indiana in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Raptors have lost 10 of 13 games and could be without forward Rudy Gay due to a back ailment. The underdog is 14-3 ATS in the last 17 meetings.

Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls (-3.5, 180)

The Pacers look to complete a four-game season sweep of the Bulls Saturday. Chicago has lost six of eight games and is holding out hope that star point guard Derrick Rose will soon return from knee surgery. The Pacers prevailed 80-76 in their last visit to Chicago on Dec. 4 and are 8-1 ATS in their last nine vs. NBA Central foes.

Boston Celtics at Memphis Grizzlies (-8, 177.5)

The Celtics have suffered season-ending injuries to a pair of guards and may be without another on Saturday after Courtney Lee went down with a sprained ankle in the fourth quarter of Friday’s 104-94 loss at Dallas. The Grizzlies are on the verge of clinching a playoff spot and are locked in a battle for positioning with the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference. Memphis has won nine straight home games, but the road team has taken six of the last seven in the series, including a 93-83 Grizzlies' triumph in Boston on Jan. 2.

Sacramento Kings at Denver Nuggets (-10.5, 220.5)

Denver needed a miraculous comeback to keep its winning streak intact and will seek its 15th consecutive victory against the visiting Sacramento Kings on Saturday. The Nuggets erased a five-point deficit in the final 10 seconds to overcome Philadelphia on Thursday, marking their 16th straight win at home and wrapping up a postseason berth in the process. The Nuggets have won eight straight meetings against Sacramento, which is in the midst of one of its better stretches and can match a season high with its third straight victory. Denver has averaged 119 points in its six wins over the Kings the past two seasons and Sacramento has scored 100 points in 17 of its last 19 games. The over is 5-0 in the last five meetings.

Brooklyn Nets at Los Angeles Clippers (-8.5, 193)

The Brooklyn Nets have clinched a playoff spot and they are 2-0 on a season-long, eight-game road trip entering Saturday’s contest. The Clippers are closing in on the franchise record of 49 wins, set in 1974-75 when they were known as the Buffalo Braves. They are also on the verge of wrapping up the Pacific Division title. The teams split the previous two regular-season meetings, which both teams winning on their home floors. The over is 5-0 in the Nets’ last five overall.

Washington Wizards at Golden State Warriors (-8.5, 194)

The Wizards have won back-to-back road games for the first time this season and overcame an 18-point deficit to take down the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. Washington has picked up wins in five of its last six games and is playing the traditional role of spoiler down the stretch. But the Warriors have taken four straight in the series while averaging 110.3 points. The Wizards are 8-0 ATS in their last eight Saturday games.

Canucks at Kings: What bettors need to know
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings (-140, 5)

The Los Angeles Kings wrap up a five-game homestand on Saturday when they host the Vancouver Canucks. The Kings saw their five-game home winning streak come to an end on Thursday when they were blanked 2-0 by Dallas, but are 12-3-1 at Staples Center. Vancouver visited on Jan. 28 and lost 3-2 in a shootout for Los Angeles’ first home victory. The Canucks beat the Kings 5-2 in Vancouver on March 2, which was the beginning of a rough month for Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick, who has allowed four or more goals in three of his last eight starts.

As a result, Jonathan Bernier has seen more time in the Kings’ net, winning two of the four starts during the homestand. Cory Schneider has started the last two games for the Canucks, allowing three goals on 68 shots in two straight victories. Roberto Luongo, who started the previous four, is 2-4-0 in his last six starts and allowed 12 goals over his last three. The Canucks have allowed a power-play goal in three of their last four games, while the Kings have been hot with the man advantage of late, scoring eight times in their last 25 opportunities.

              TV:
4 p.m. ET, Fox Sports West, Sportsnet Pacific

              ABOUT THE CANUCKS (15-9-6):
Defenseman Alexander Edler is suspended for two games after running into Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith in Thursday’s 2-1 victory. Vancouver cannot afford to lose a valuable player like Edler, who has 17 points, when its roster is already decimated with injuries to Ryan Kesler (broken foot), David Booth (ankle) and Zack Kassian (back). Chris Higgins missed Thursday’s game with a sore back.

              ABOUT THE KINGS (17-11-2):
After another poor performance on Thursday, head coach Darryl Sutter called out his top line of captain Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams, which was on for both Dallas goals. “They’ve struggled for two or three games that line, probably three in a row now,” Sutter told reporters after the game. Brown has been held without a point in the last three games, while Williams and Kopitar have two assists combined in the last two. Rookie defenseman Jake Muzzin has four goals and 10 points this month and is seeing an increase in power-play time.

              TRENDS:

              * Under is 4-0-3 in the last seven meetings in Los Angeles.
              * Over is 6-0-1 in Kings’ last seven Saturday games.
              * Kings are 6-1 in their last seven vs. Northwest foes.
              * Over is 4-1 in Canucks’ last five games following a win.

              OVERTIME

              1. Prior to Thursday’s loss, the Kings had not been shut out at home in over a year. Their last blanking came on Feb. 18, 2012, against Calgary.

              2. Edler has 11 points in 18 career games against Los Angeles.

              3. If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, Los Angeles and Vancouver - seeded fourth and fifth - would face each other in the first round. These teams have met in the opening round in two of the last three post-seasons, with Vancouver winning in six games in 2009-10 and Los Angeles winning in five in 2011-12.

Around the rink: Saturday's NHL betting notes
                        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tampa Bay Lightning at Ottawa Senators (-135, 5.5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Mathieu Garon (TB), Robin Lehner (OTT)

Ottawa lost in regulation for only the second time in 15 home games on Thursday, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Boston Bruins. The Senators allow an average of 2.03 goals but surrendered a season-high six at Tampa Bay on Jan. 25. The Lightning had won three of four before a mistake-filled 4-2 loss at Toronto on Tuesday. They also lost goaltender Anders Lindback indefinitely with a high ankle sprain. Tampa Bay is 0-5 in its last five vs. Northeast foes.

San Jose Sharks at Minnesota Wild (-127, 5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Antti Niemi (SJ) Niklas Backstrom (MIN)

Minnesota will attempt to extend its season-high winning streak to five games. After topping Colorado at home on March 14, the Wild had a perfect three-game road trip as they defeated the Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings. The Wild have won three straight meetings with San Jose after losing three in a row and the home team has captured seven of the last eight games in the all-time series. The over is 6-0-3 in the Sharks’ last nine overall.

Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings (-140, 5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Cory Schneider (VAN), Jonathan Quick (LAK)

The Kings saw their five-game home winning streak come to an end on Thursday as they were blanked 2-0 by the Dallas Stars, but they are 12-3-1 at Staples Center. Vancouver visited on Jan. 28 and lost 3-2 in a shootout as Los Angeles notched its first home victory and the Canucks beat the Kings 5-2 in Vancouver on March 2. Canucks defenseman Alex Edler received a two-game suspension for running into Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith in Thursday’s 2-1 victory and will be ineligible. The over is 6-0-1 in the Kings’ last seven Saturday games.

Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs (+132, 5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Tuukka Rask (BOS), James Reimer (TOR)

The Bruins vie for their ninth consecutive victory against the Maple Leafs in the opener of a home-and-home series. Saturday's contest will complete a four-game road trip for Boston, which will host Toronto on Monday. Tuukka Rask routinely has torched the team that used a first-round pick on him during the 2005 draft. The 26-year-old Finn stopped all 21 shots he faced in a 1-0 win over Toronto on Feb. 2. With the victory, Rask improved to 7-1-0 with a 1.46 goals-against average versus the Maple Leafs. Toronto has yielded at least four goals in eight of its last 11 games and has played over in 10 of its last 13 overall.

Buffalo Sabres at Montreal Canadiens (-198, 5.5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Ryan Miller (BUF), Carey Price (MTL)

Buffalo might be without leading scorer Thomas Vanek (14 goals, 31 points) for the second game in a row. Vanek missed Thursday’s 5-4 shootout victory over Toronto after taking a shot in the hip during Tuesday’s game against Montreal. Seven of the Sabres’ last 11 games have gone beyond regulation, including their last three against divisional opponents. The Canadiens have one regulation loss in their last 19 games (14-1-4) and have played over in nine of their last 11 overall.

Florida Panthers at New Jersey Devils (-188, 5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Scott Clemmensen (FLA), Martin Brodeur (NJ)

The Florida Panthers try for their season-high third straight victory Saturday as they continue their five-game road trip against the Devils. Rookie Jacob Markstrom has been stellar in goal as he followed a 33-save performance against Carolina by stopping a career-high 44 shots in Thursday's 3-1 victory in New York. The under is 4-1 in the Panthers’ last five overall.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Nashville Predators (-148, 5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Sergei Bobrovsky (CBJ), Pekka Rinne (NSH)

Columbus extended its franchise-record point streak to 12 games Friday with a 5-1 triumph over the Calgary Flames. Nick Foligno scored a pair of goals as the Blue Jackets improved to 8-0-4 during their run and pulled even in points with the San Jose Sharks for eighth place in the Western Conference. Nashville lost both of its first two meetings with Columbus, including a 4-1 road setback on Tuesday. Entering the season, the Preds had gone 7-0-1 in their previous eight meetings with Columbus.

Colorado Avalanche at Dallas Stars (-133, 5.5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Semyon Varlamov (COL), Kari Lehtonen (DAL)

The Colorado Avalanche attempt to defeat the Dallas Stars for the second time in four days when the teams reconvene at American Airlines Center. Colorado snapped a four-game skid with a 4-3 triumph over Dallas on Wednesday. The road hasn't been friendly for the Avalanche, who are winless in their last eight away from the Rocky Mountains (0-5-3) while registering just two victories in 14 contests (2-9-3). The over is 4-0 in Colorado’s last four overall.

St. Louis Blues at Edmonton Oilers (+121, 5.5)

Probable starting goaltenders: Jaroslav Halak (STL), Nikolai Khabibulin (EDM)

The Edmonton Oilers conclude their four-game homestand Saturday, when they host the St. Louis Blues. Edmonton has gone 1-0-2 over the first three games of the home stretch but could have won all three contests. The Oilers held two-goal leads in the third period against both the Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks before losing in overtime and a shootout, respectively. The lost points may come back to bite the Oilers, who have earned at least one in five straight games (3-0-2). St. Louis has won four straight meetings between the teams and 10 of the last 12 (10-1-1). The home team has also won five of the last six games in the all-time series.
