5 STAR: Pittsburgh (+4) OVER TENNESSEE
The public opinion seems to be that Tennessee will blow out the Steelers. Not so fast my friend! The Steelers came from behind last week to beat the Browns, after the Pittsburgh
defense gave up 33 points and 409 passing yards to Holcomb and company. The Pittsburgh passing defense got shredded most of the year, ranking 20th in the NFL against the pass and now they face the Titans and Steve McNair and nobody seems to be giving them a chance. I give McNair credit, he is a great player, but the fact is that the Titans passing offense is only ranked 20th in the league at just over 207 yards per game. Yes, they did beat the Steelers earlier in the year and they passed for 257 yards, but the key was that they ran for 121 yards, and I just don't see that happening again. The Titans victory was by 8 points due mostly because of three Steelers turnovers. Tennessee only outgained Pittsburgh by 21 total yards.
Nobody is talking about how bad the Tennessee pass defense is, they rank 25th in the NFL against the pass. They also played Cleveland earlier in the year and gave up 311 passing yards in a 28-31 home loss. The Steelers rank 7th in the league in passing yardage and Maddux appears to be playing well again after coming back from the injury when they played at Tennessee the last time. The Steelers play their best when people doubt them or disrespect them. Cower says that the Titans beat them physically the last time, this will not happen again. You can be sure that the Steelers are using the "coffee incident" as motivation, whether it is true on not. And the Pittsburgh secondary will get a lift with the return of Chad Scott this week.
The Steelers are 1-0-1 this season as an underdog. Road underdogs off of a big home win in which they scored 31 or more
points are 15-5 against the spread. The Steelers are 8-2 against the spread when revenging an upset loss against an opponent as a road favorite since 1992 (they were a 3 point road chalk in the last game). The Titans are terrible as a favorite in the playoffs, going just 1-6 against the spread in that role. The Titans are also only 2-8 against the spread as a home favorite of 3.5 to 7 points over the last 3 seasons.
I will take the points with the Steelers, and also the Steelers Moneyline +$170.
