College football odds: Week 14 opening line report

Forget everything you’ve seen and read about Alabama over the past two weeks.

“Don’t anyone get excited about those wins,” says the founder of the Las Vegas-based The Sports Club, which sets lines for many Vegas sportsbooks in referring to back-to-back 49-0 Tide victories over Western Carolina and Auburn.

Alabama and Georgia battle on Saturday night for the SEC title and – assuming the BCS computer software doesn’t go haywire – a chance to face Notre Dame for the national championship. Korner has suggested Alabama -9 to his clients, with an O/U total of 50.

“Everything that you say about Alabama can also be said about Georgia,” says Korner of the Bulldogs, who have met little resistance over the past four games on their own road to the SEC title game. “They are a solid team.”

Korner points out that because of equalized ticket distribution, there will be little home-field edge for Georgia even though the game will be played in the Georgia Dome (Saturday night).

A look at a few other interesting games on the horizon:

UCLA (+10.5, 52) at Stanford (Friday night)
The Bruins and Cardinal will be playing for the second time in six days, and Korner says that his team of oddsmakers all had this one is the same range despite Stanford’s 35-17 win on Saturday night. “In a 7-game NBA playoff series things tend to tighten up,” says Korner, “but I don’t think so here. There might be some adjustments, but each team has seen everything the other has.”

    Louisville (+2, 43) at Rutgers
Both of these teams are 9-2 and will be trying to earn spots in a BCS bowl game, and both teams are coming off tough losses – Louisville to Connecticut in overtime and Rutgers to Pittsburgh. Korner: “Decent teams and an even game, with a few points to Louisville because of Rutgers’ home-field edge.”

Texas (+11.5, 63) at Kansas State
Korner’s crew had this one between 10 and 13.5 points, settling at 11.5. “Kansas State needs this one to get to the best possible bowl game,” says Korner. “There’s millions of dollars at stake.” Texas backers should jump if the 11.5 number holds, but the Longhorns (8-3) have been streaky this season and looked shaky in a loss to TCU last Thursday.

Louisville at Rutgers: What bettors need to know
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Louisville Cardinals at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (-3, 43.5)

The Big East has grown accustomed to strange finishes in recent years, but No. 18 Rutgers hopes to avoid any suspense for the second time in as many seasons when they host No. 20 Louisville on Thursday.

In addition to securing the school’s first BCS berth, the Scarlet Knights will get a chance to atone for last season when they missed out on an opportunity to forge a four-way atop the conference standings in the final week of the regular season. While a similar scenario could take place again this season, Thursday’s game will likely determine whether Rutgers or Louisville with represent the conference in a BCS bowl game.

Last Saturday, the Scarlet Knights had a chance to claim their first outright conference title, but appeared listless in a 27-6 loss to Pittsburgh. However, thanks to a triple-overtime loss by Louisville to Connecticut on the same day, Rutgers clinched at least a share of the Big East crown.

                TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.

LINE: Rutgers has been bet up to a field-goal favorite after opening at -2.5. The total opened at 43.5 and has remained steady.

ABOUT LOUISVILLE (9-2, 4-2 Big East, 4-7 ATS): The Cardinals enter on a two-game losing streak and injuries to key players are beginning to pile up. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater broke his left wrist and sprained his right ankle against Connecticut, one game after the team lost leading rusher Senorise Perry for the season to a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Coach Charlie Strong expects Bridgewater to play through his injuries Thursday, but his ability to effectively lead the conference’s top scoring offense will be in question. Bridgewater is unable to handle snaps under center or play-action calls but is expected to manage the offense from the shotgun and pistol formations.

ABOUT RUTGERS (9-2, 5-1 Big East, 7-4 ATS): Despite rushing for only 14 yards on nine carries against Pittsburgh, Jawan Jamison became the seventh player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. The Scarlet Knights have forced a turnover in 14 consecutive games – totaling 32 over that stretch – and have forced at least one turnover in 51 of their previous 55 games. Rutgers ranks among the top 25 nationally in most of the major defensive categories, including scoring (fourth), total (14th) and rushing (11th).

                TRENDS:

                * Favorite is 5-0 ATS in their last five meetings.
                * Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
                * Home team is 5-2 ATS in their last seven meetings.

                EXTRA POINTS:

                1. Rutgers has allowed only 71 points in conference play.

                2. Louisville is 3-18 all-time on the road against ranked opponents.

                3. A win would give the Scarlet Knights only their third 10-win season in the program’s 143-year history.

                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Louisville, Rutgers both facing challenges at QB
                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A struggling Rutgers passing game has seen the Scarlet Knights score just 16 points over its past two games heading into Thursday night’s pseudo Big East Championship contest against Louisville, where Rutgers is favored by a field goal.

Fortunately for the Scarlet Knights, they won one of those games though it makes things a little scary heading up against a Louisville pass defense that ranks 14th in the country.

Gary Nova went just 11 for 19 for 186 yards two games ago in a 10-3 win over Cincy as a 6.5-point road dog and then went 18 of 37 for 157 yards in a 27-6 thumping at the hands of Pitt last weekend.

The problem could be that opposing defenses have Rutgers’ number 11 games deep into the season. The Scarlet Knights, who rank first in the Big East in turnover margin, rely on a conservative run-first offense and a stingy defense to get turnovers and create short fields.

The good news for Rutgers is that Louisville has QB issues of its own. Starter Teddy Bridgewater will play with a broken non-throwing wrist Thursday. That means he won’t be able to take snaps under center, from where Louisville runs all of its play-action plays - which means we could see a more conservative game plan from Louisville. So this game could all bpil down to which side can stop the run better than the other.

Rutgers owns the 11th-ranked rushing defense in the nation (110.7 yds against per game) while Louisville ranks 60th in that category (159.9 yds per game). Both teams are similar in rushing offense with Rutgers ranking 94th and Louisville ranking 91st in the nation.

Where the action is: NCAAF mid-week line moves

There may only be a handful of games on the college football slate but with conference championships highlighting the schedule, Week 14 is one of the most heavily-bet boards of the season.

We talk to Jay Rood, sportsbook director at the MGM Mirage in Las Vegas, about the biggest adjustments to the Week 14 odds and where those lines will end up come kickoff.

UCLA Bruins at Stanford Cardinal – Open: -10.5, Move: -8

It’s Round 2 between UCLA and Stanford after the two Pac-12 programs met last week. This time, however, the conference championship and a spot in the Rose Bowl are on the line.

The Cardinal crushed the Bruins 35-17 as 2.5-point road favorites last week, but many believe UCLA was holding back, knowing it would face Stanford the following week. Those believers are the ones moving this line, expecting a more spirited effort from the Bruins Friday night.

“There are some people who thought UCLA looked a little vanilla last week,” Rood told Covers. “They got to pick their poison – Oregon or Stanford – and maybe they were holding back. It seems like a lot of points to give a team that’s having a pretty good season.”

Central Florida Knights at Tulsa Golden Hurricane – Open: +1, Move: -2

Tulsa made headlines in the betting community Tuesday when athletic director Ross M. Parmley was placed on leave after admitting he gambled on pro and college football until he quit in 2010.

That controversy hasn’t scared off early money, which is all over the Golden Hurricane at home. Early bettors moved them from slight underdogs to favorites at some books. Some believe the move is just a ploy to beef up the spread before buying back on UCF, however, Rood says the betting trends don’t quite fit the usual practice by sharp bettors.

“Usually you get the half-hearted plays if they’re going to dummy up a line. So far it’s been all full-limit plays on Tulsa,” he says. “Tulsa is a lot like the (Seattle) Seahawks and play much better at home (6-0 SU, 3-2 ATS).”

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Georgia Bulldogs – Open: +8.5, Move: +7

The SEC Championship not only carries conference bragging rights but also a trip to the national title game, to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Jan. 7. This line has been bet down to an even touchdown, with early money on UGA. Since then, action has been steady on Alabama and books expect it to stay that way.

“We are getting more Alabama money now that we knocked the hook off,” says Rood, who went from +7.5 to +7. “I think we’ll get OK two-way action, but somewhere in the range of 60/40 in favor of Alabama. If it comes in too heavy we’ll make the move back to +7.5 but don’t want to have this thing land on seven.”

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Wisconsin Badgers – Open: +2.5, Move: +3

The early action on the Big Ten title game has been relatively split, with a slight lean towards Nebraska. Rood says it’s been pretty quick in terms of action but expects that to change as Saturday draws near.

“I would imagine Nebraska being the public side and wouldn’t be surprised to see this (spread) go up a little before or on game day,” he says.

South Alabama Jaguars at Hawaii Warriors – Open: -3.5, Move: -6

This Sun Belt versus Mountain West matchup is the late night degenerate special in Week 14, with its 11 p.m. ET kickoff making it the last bet on the board. These games usually don’t see moves like this until after all others have kicked off, but early sharp money is on Hawaii with South Alabama dealing with an injured rushing attack and a long trip to paradise.

“It is what it is – the get-out game. You either get out even or get even deeper,” says Rood. “Everything is on Hawaii right now. Sharps have bet this as much as they can and it will probably go to -7. It has the look of a 'runaway' game.”

College football betting cheat sheet: Week 14

                      (23) Oklahoma State at Baylor (4, 87)

This a matchup of two of the nation's most balanced offenses and it shows in the total - the highest ever for a major football game. Both teams are among four FBS schools that average more than 300 passing yards and 200 rushing yards (Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M are the others). The Bears have won two straight and three of four to gain bowl eligibility, and the offense has led the surge with 52 points in each of the past two games. But Baylor has lost 15 of the last 16 meetings and hasn’t beaten the Cowboys since 2005. Oklahoma State is coming off a 51-48 overtime loss to rival Oklahoma. The Cowboys are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 meetings.

                      (11) Oklahoma at TCU (6.5, 60.5)

Oklahoma has won seven Big 12 titles since 2000 but needs a win and some help to secure another. The Sooners have won four straight, including a wild overtime victory over Oklahoma State last week. Landry Jones threw for 500 yards and three touchdowns on a school-record 71 pass attempts in the win. The Horned Frogs relied on their defense, which held the Longhorns to season lows in points and yards, in their 20-13 win last week over Texas. TCU is 0-4 ATS in its last four games following a win.

Central Florida at Tulsa (-2, 55)

The UCF Knights take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the 2012 Conference USA Championship game. Both schools finished with identical overall (9-3) and conference records (7-1). UCF is in position to earn a conference championship thanks to its stout defense, which ranks first in the league in scoring defense (21.6) and second in yards allowed (374.9). Tulsa is 6-0 at home this season and has played under the total in all six of those wins. The team is dealing with the off-field distraction of Tulsa A.D. Ross Parmley being named in a betting scandal this week. According to reports, Parmley admitted to the FBI he previously bet on college and NFL football.

Kansas at West Virginia (-19.5, 71)

Kansas will conclude its woeful campaign on the road against West Virginia. The Jayhawks are winless against Big 12 foes this season and have dropped 20 conference games in a row. West Virginia is likely looking at a bid to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego should it win Saturday's contest. A loss would likely put the Mountaineers in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. West Virginia snapped a five-game losing skid with a 31-24 triumph over Iowa State last Friday but is just 1-4 ATS in its last five home contests.

Middle Tennessee at Arkansas State (-9.5, 62.5)

The Sun Belt Conference doesn’t have a championship game, but Week 14’s tilt between the Arkansas State Red Wolves and Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders will determine the conference champ. ASU, which is coming off a bye week, has won six straight games and has covered in each of its last four contests. The Blue Raiders have also been excellent against the spread recently, going 3-0-1 in their last four.

UL Lafayette at Florida Atlantic (9, 60)

Louisiana-Lafayette cruises into the final regular season game riding back-to-back wins and victories in three of four with the only blemish being a seven-point loss at Florida. FAU may have a 3-8 record, but the Owls have beaten both Troy and Western Kentucky in league play in the past four weeks. The Ragin’ Cajuns are just 1-6 ATS in their last seven meetings and the Owls are 6-0 ATS in their last six vs. a team with a winning record.

                      (20) Boise State at Nevada (10, 60)

A win by the Broncos would give them a share of the Mountain West Conference title with San Diego State and Fresno State. And Nevada has already accepted a bid to the New Mexico Bowl. Boise State’s defense has been stellar all season and has forced 32 turnovers – 16 interceptions and 16 fumbles. The Broncos are fifth in scoring defense (14.4 points per game) and eighth in rushing defense (293.3 yards). The Wolf Pack are the only team in the country to score 30 or more points in each game but a leaky defense has allowed more than 30 six times. Nevada has played over the total in four of its last five games and the over is 4-0 in Boise State’s last four road games. Nevada also needs a win to go over its season win total of 7.5 games.

                      Cincinnati at Connecticut (5, 40.5)

With a win here and a loss by Rutgers on Thursday, Cincy would gain a share of the Big East title for the fourth time in five years. Connecticut, meanwhile, is a win away from gaining bowl eligibility for the fifth time in six seasons. The Huskies scored a total of 33 points during a four-game losing streak from Oct. 6 to Nov. 3. They've scored 47 in two wins since, although 13 of those points came in overtime against Louisville. The home team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings between the schools.

New Mexico State at Texas State (-13, 57)

The first-ever meeting between a couple of disappointing WAC programs takes place on Saturday, as the Texas State Bobcats play host to the New Mexico State Aggies. Back on Aug. 30, the Aggies began the season with a 49-19 win over FCS Sacramento State at home, but have since dropped 10 straight. New Mexico State has struggled mightily on offense recently, having been limited to 14 points or less in its last five games. Texas State has also been brutal, dropping five straight contests, but showed some life in a 38-31 defeat to Texas-San Antonio last week. The Bobcats are 4-0 ATS in their last four games.

                      (2) Alabama vs. (3) Georgia (7, 50.5)

A berth in the BCS Championship Game against Notre Dame is at stake when Alabama and Georgia clash in Saturday’s SEC title game in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Alabama leads the nation in points allowed (9.3) and total defense (233.7). The Bulldogs rank 17th in points allowed (17.7) but have been especially stingy the last five games, allowing an average of 8.6 points. The schools have played over the total in their last four meetings and the Crimson Tide are 6-0 ATS in their last six neutral site games.

Pittsburgh at South Florida (6.5, 46.5)

The Panthers have shown a tendency to play to the level of their competition this season. Pitt is coming off a huge victory over Rutgers (its second win against a ranked opponent at the time), just two weeks after taking Notre dame to triple overtime. The Panthers have an opportunity to become bowl eligible with a victory and won’t be lacking motivation this weekend. South Florida is devastated by injuries at the QB position. Freshman Matt Floyd has yet to throw a touchdown pass in two starts and has led the offense to a total of 19 points in back-to-back losses at Miami and Cincinnati. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.

                      (18) Texas at (6) Kansas State (-11, 63.5)

The Wildcats need to beat the Longhorns to clinch their first BCS berth since the 2004 Fiesta Bowl and at least a share of their first Big 12 title since 2003. The Longhorns fell out of the conference title picture with a 20-13 loss to TCU on Thanksgiving and are now simply trying to improve their bowl pecking order and play spoiler for a Kansas State team that has won the past four meetings with Texas. The Longhorns have won their last five road games, including all four this season, and they've beaten two ranked teams away from home this campaign (then No. 22 Oklahoma State, then-No. 20 Texas Tech). The underdog is 7-0 ATS in their last seven meetings.

                      (13) Florida State vs. Georgia Tech (14, 62)

Both teams are coming off disappointing losses to their in-state rivals, with Florida State losing 37-26 to Florida and Georgia Tech falling 42-10 against Georgia. The winner of this contest advances to the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day, possibly against the Big East champion. The Seminoles boast the nation’s second-best defense, allowing 249.42 yards per game, but they’ll be without senior DE Cornellius Carradine (ACL) for the rest of the season. The prognosis for Georgia Tech’s leading rusher Orwin Smith is unclear for Saturday’s ACC title game. Smith was held out of practice again Wednesday because of his ankle injury suffered in the Duke game Nov. 17. The Seminoles are 0-2-2 ATS in their last four meetings.

                      (12) Nebraska vs. Wisconsin (3, 49)

With a Rose Bowl berth on the line Saturday, the Badgers are the only obstacle that remains in the way of the Cornhuskers winning their first Big Ten conference championship. Wisconsin is appearing in this game only because Ohio State and Penn State are ineligible for postseason play this season. The Badgers have dropped three of their last four games, but all three were in overtime. In fact, all five of Wisconsin’s losses this season have been by seven points or less and have come by a combined 19 points. The Cornhuskers have played over the total in their last eight neutral site games.

South Alabama at Hawaii (-6.5, 52.5)

The South Alabama Jaguars are 0-6 on the road this season, allowing 35.2 points per game away from home. And now the Jaguars face a long and difficult road trip to Hawaii for their season finale. "We're going to lose a day in travel, so we have had to kind of tighten our belts coming straight off the last game and get the game plan in even earlier than we normally would,'' Jaguars defensive coordinator Bill Clark said Wednesday. "It's a different feeling this week. You're at the end of a long season; as a player, you just have to fight through that. From a preparation standpoint, it's a time crunch trying to get ready.” South Alabama has failed to cover in its last four games overall. Sharps and the public are on Hawaii and have driven this line up a field goal since it opened.

Northern Illinois vs. Kent State: What bettors need to know
                          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Northern Illinois at Kent State (6.5, 67.5)

For the first time since 2003, two ranked teams will meet in the Mid-American Conference championship game when No. 17 Kent State and No. 21 Northern Illinois meet Friday at Ford Field in Detroit. Recording-breaking seasons have both teams on the brink of program history and the stakes couldn’t be much higher for either team as a possible automatic bid to a BCS game awaits the winner. Although the MAC is not an automatic-bid BCS conference, league champions from mid-major conferences can receive one if they finish the season ranked in the top 16 and above a champion from an automatic-qualifying conference in the final BCS standings. The Golden Flashes enter the game on a school-record 10-game winning streak and have defeated 12 straight conference foes overall. The Huskies, winners of 11 straight, are riding a 16-game conference winning streak – a run that began with a 40-10 victory over Kent State last season.

                          TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2

                          LINE: Northern Illinois -6.5, O/U 67.5.

ABOUT NORTHERN ILLINOIS (11-1, 8-0 MAC): The Huskies will be seeking their second straight MAC title behind coach Dave Doeren and have already set a school record for victories. The offense is in the capable hands of darkhorse Heisman Trophy candidate Jordan Lynch, who extended his own FBS record of consecutive 100-yard rushing performances by a quarterback to 10 in the Northern Illinois’ 49-7 victory over Eastern Michigan on Saturday. In the same game, sophomore Tommylee Lewis became the first player in school history to score three kickoff return touchdowns in his career.

ABOUT KENT STATE (11-1, 8-0): The Golden Flashes, who have already locked up their first postseason game since the 1972 Tangerine Bowl, possess two 1,000-yard rushers in Dri Archer (1,373) and Trayion Durham (1,199), and as a result, rank 11th in the FBS in rushing offense. Archer – the school’s single season record-holder in touchdowns with 21 – leads the nation in kick return average, is fifth in all-purpose yards and tied for ninth in scoring. Kent State also ranks second in the FBS with a plus-20 turnover margin and 35 forced turnovers.

                          TRENDS:

                          * Huskies are 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine games overall.
                          * Golden Flashes are 4-0 ATS in their last four vs. a team with a winning record.

                          * Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

                          2. Only Ohio State and Middle Tennessee have matched Kent State’s six-win increase from last season.

                          3. The Huskies and Golden Flashes are among five FBS teams to have won 15 of their last 17 games overall.

UCLA at Stanford: What bettors need to know
                            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UCLA Bruins at Stanford Cardinal (-8, 44.5)

In a game few expected and under very unusual circumstances, No. 8 Stanford will play No. 16 UCLA for the second time in less than a week Friday in the Pac-12 Conference championship game with a Rose Bowl berth on the line. While conference championship games have brought about the possibility of meeting one opponent twice in the same season, it is extremely rare the same two schools could face each other twice over the course of six days. Entering the season, it seemed just as unlikely this game would feature anyone else beside Oregon and USC, but late-season losses to the Cardinal and Bruins, respectively, set the stage for UCLA to clinch its berth in the title game a week early while Stanford needed a win over the Bruins last week in order to hold off the Ducks in the North Division. And the Cardinal took advantage of the opportunity, trouncing UCLA 35-17 in Pasadena.

                            TV: 8 p.m. ET, Fox.

                            LINE: Stanford -8, O/U 43.5.

WEATHER: Forecasts are calling for temperatures in the mid-50s with a 95 percent chance of rain. Winds will blow out of the south at 13 mph.

ABOUT UCLA (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12): Running back Johnathan Franklin needs 18 all-purpose yards to break Maurice Jones-Drew's school record and 66 yards rushing to set the Bruins’ single-season mark held by Karim Abdul-Jabbar. However, Franklin will have his work cut out for him against the nation’s top rushing defense – the same one that held him to 65 yards last week. Athletic freshman quarterback Brett Hundley was sacked seven times in the loss to the Cardinal, but is also on the brink of breaking several school records, including single-season total offense (needs 137 yards), passing yardage (236) and completions (27).

ABOUT STANFORD (10-2, 8-1): The Cardinal have won eight straight games and already secured a 10-win season for the third consecutive year – a school-record. Since Kevin Hogan replaced Josh Nunes in the win over Colorado on Nov. 3, the freshman quarterback has directed his team to victories over three ranked teams - Oregon State, Oregon and UCLA - in his first three career starts. Stepfan Taylor raised his career rushing total to 4,134 yards in the victory over UCLA and needs 36 yards in the rematch to break Darrin Nelson’s school record (1977-81).

                            TRENDS:

                            * Bruins are 0-4 ATS in their last four meetings.
                            * Bruins are 1-6 ATS in their last seven meetings in Stanford.
                            * Over is 5-0 in Bruins’ last five games overall.
                            * Stanford is 5-0 ATS in its last five November games.

                            EXTRA POINTS:

                            1. Stanford has won eight straight and 19 of its past 20 home games.

                            2. UCLA’s four road wins this season are its most since winning five in 2002.

                            3. The Bruins and Cardinal will be playing for their first Rose Bowl berth since 1999 and 2000, respectively.

                              Week 14

                              Notes for Saturday's games
Home side won last five Cincinnati-UConn games; Bearcats lost last two visits here, 38-17/40-16; average total in last four is 67.5. Cincy lost two of its three road games this year, winning only at Temple- they covered four of last five games overall, winning two of last three. UConn needs a win to be bowl eligible; they've covered last three games, won last two-- Huskies are 3-2 at home this year, with both losses by a field goal.

Pitt won its last four games with South Florida, winning 17-10/26-21 in last two visits here; Panthers covered four of last five series games as the favorite. Pitt is 1-4 on road, with only win at Buffalo- they lost by point at Syracuse, by 3 at Notre Dame; they need this win to be bowl eligible. USF lost six of last seven games overall, three of last four at home; they got beat 40-9/27-10 last two games, in extremely disappointing season.

Oklahoma won its last four games; they allowed 49-48 points in last two games, 43.7 ppg in last three; they're 2-2 as road favorite, winning road games by 17-21-1-15 points. TCU is 7-4 despite losing last three home games, allowing 39.3 ppg; Horned Frogs split last six games, despite being underdog in all six games. Three of last four TCU games stayed under total, seven of last eight Sooner games went over.

Kansas State is playing for BCS bowl/huge payday; they upset Texas in last two meetings, 39-14/17-13. Curious to see how Wildcats recover in wake of getting hammered in Waco last week- they scored 23-24 points in last two games, after scoring 51.3 ppg in previous three. Longhorns allowed 48-63-50 points in consecutive games in middle of season, but last four games, playing lesser teams, they've allowed average of only 16.5 ppg. Texas is 4-0 in true road games this year; they lost to Sooners on neutral field, are 1-1 as underdog this season.

Total on Oklahoma State-Baylor game is 86, highest one I can remember; State won last six series games by average score of 49-17, with 27 points closest game of the six. Bears KO'd Kansas State from ranks of unbeaten last week, are 4-1 as a home favorite this year, with only non-cover in game they won by 14 vs North Texas. Boise State won 11 of last 12 games vs Nevada, but lost last visit here and covered only one of last five in series overall; 31-30 they scored the last two years vs Wolf Pack are lowest in last dozen meetings. Broncos won four of last five visits here, winning by 7-31-37-37 points. Nevada is 7-4 this year despite scoring 31+ points in every game; they're 1-3 at home this year vs I-A foes, with two OT games and a 32-31 loss. Boise covered three of four as a road favorite this season.

Tulsa (-1.5) beat Central Florida 23-21 at home two weeks ago, running ball for 206 yards; they outgained UCF 461-235, overcoming -2 turnover ratio and 14-10 halftime deficit. Hurricane got upset 35-27 at SMU last week; they're 5-0 SU at home vs I-A opponents, with three wins by four or less points. Knights scored 16-16-21 points in their three losses, 31+ in their wins; loss at Tulsa is their only loss in last eight games. UCF lost last three series with Tulsa, losing 49-19 in only other visit here in '10.

Alabama caught breaks it needed to get back in national title hunt after its loss to Texas A&M; Tide are 4-1 as road favorite this year, winning five games by average score of 40-11. Georgia won its last six games since 35-7 loss at South Carolina; they allowed total of 43 points in their last five games (8.6 ppg). Teams haven't met since Bama's 41-30 win in 2008; Dawgs won year before in OT. This is first time in three years Alabama is in this game; Georgia lost it LY.

Florida State-Georgia Tech didn't meet last two years, but Jackets won last two meetings, 31-28/49-44; last time Seminoles beat Tech was 2003. State had 5-game win streak snapped by Florida last week; Seminoles are 2-7 vs spread in last nine games (were double digit favorite in eight of the nine). Tech fired its DC during season, allowed 41+ points in six of last nine games; they're 2-2 as underdogs, could still go bowling even if they lose here and wind up with 6-7 record.

Nebraska (-11) outrushed Badgers 259-56, beat Wisconsin 30-27 Sept 29 in Lincoln, avenging a 48-17 loss in Madison LY. 30 points are most any team scored vs Badgers this year. Cornhuskers won last six games since 63-28 loss at Ohio St- they won last three road games by 1-4-6 points. Wisconsin lost its last two games, both in OT; they're 1-5 vs I-A teams this year in games decided by 7 or less points- their other five I-A wins were all by 11+ points.
