        Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

-- Jurickson Profar is second-youngest player ever (Whitey Lockman, '45) to homer in his first major league at-bat.

-- Detroit swept the White Sox, teams are now tied atop AL Central.

-- Huge moment in Atlanta, with Chipper Jones hitting a 3-run walkoff as Braves scored five runs in bottom of 9th to stun the Phillies 8-7.

-- Arizona State hired former NBA head coach Eric Musselman as an aide to Herb Sendek. Hopefully it was Sendek's decision and Musselman isn't a head coach-in-waiting if ASU has a rough year.

-- Texas State (+36.5) won 30-13 at Houston, one of biggest pointspread upsets ever; Bobcats are coached by Dennis Franchione, who used to be coach at both Alabama/Texas A&M. He is better as an underdog.

-- Nine series left in the baseball season, 4.5 weeks, roughly 28-30 games. It gets really, really interesting now.......

        **********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Random Lists of 3.............

        13) 3 favorite fast food meals:
        a) Little Anthony’s pizza
        b) Double with ketchup at Wendy’s
        c) Chicken fried rice with orange chicken, at any Chinese take-out place.

        12) 3 guys you never want to see at your house:
Jim Cantore, who follows weather disasters for the Weather Channel and the two guys on American Pickers, who look thru junkyards and people’s attics for old stuff they can sell for a profit. If they’re picking thru your stuff, you live in a hellhole., or you're close to dying.

        11) If I’m down three points with 2:00 left and we’ve got the ball on my 20-yard line, I’d want one of these 3 QB’s leading my team: John Elway-Roger Staubach-Kurt Warner.

        In today’s game, Brady-Brees-Roethlisberger.

        10) 3 best reality shows on TV: American Pickers-Pawn Stars-Tanked.

        9) My 3 favorite hotels in Las Vegas:
        a) Elara-- Old Westgate Towers, behind Planet Hollywood.
        b) South Point-- Good sportsbook, 24-hour bowling alley, Steak 'n Shake.
        c) LVH-- Nice pool, superior sportsbook, good deli in the back.

        8) 3 best basketball players of all-time: Kareem Adbul-Jabbar/Michael Jordan/Magic Johnson (Lebron James will probably replace Magic on this list someday soon).

        7) 3 favorite scenes in a sports movie:
        a) Bob Cousy/Nick Nolte talking in a dimly-lit gym in Blue Chips, while Cousy makes every foul shot he takes. On the first take, too.
        b) Al Pacino’s “Life is a game of inches” speech in Any Given Sunday.
        c) John Henry/Billy Beane talking in a Fenway Park luxury box near end of Moneyball.

        6) 3 favorite non-sports movies:
        a) The Verdict- Paul Newman as a down-on-his-luck lawyer.
        b) Dave- Kevin Kline is a stand-in for the President.
        c) Autumn in New York-- Richard Gere in kind of a sad movie.

        5) 3 favorite places (non-junk food) to eat in Albany:
        Delmonico’s-Graney's-Olive Garden.

        4) 3 favorite places to eat in Las Vegas:
        a) Battista’s (on Flamingo, behind Bill’s Gambling Hall).
        b) Maggiano’s (in Fashion Show ****)
        c) In ‘n Out Burger (best milkshake I’ve ever had).

        3) My 3 favorite hitters to watch at the plate:
        Giancarlo Stanton-Yoenis Cespedes-Adam Dunn.

        2) Two out, bottom of 9th, I’m down a run with bases loaded. 3 guys who I would want at the plate: Albert Pujols-Miguel Cabrera-Adrian Gonzalez.

        1) 3 of the dumbest things in America:
        a) The designated hitter
        b) Electing our President by using the Electoral College instead of popular vote
        c) Boise State and San Diego State being members of the Big East and Big West at the same time, in different sports.

          Week 10

          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Canadian Bacon: This weekend's CFL preview
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three regional rivalries are set for Sunday and Monday in the CFL. Here’s a few tidbits on the three matchups:

          Monday

          Toronto Argonauts at Hamilton Tiger-Cats (-3.5, 53.5)

Toronto is coming off a disappointing 27-17 home loss to Edmonton. The Argonauts (4-4) continue to struggle with Ricky Ray under center and are having a tough time putting points up on the board (2-6-0 O/U) this season.

Hamilton dropped a close 31-29 decision to Montreal last week and has lost three straight. The Tiger-Cats (3-5) have the top offense in the CFL, scoring an average of 29.5 points per game (6-2-0 O/U).

          TRENDS AND NOTES

*Argonauts are 1-5 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
*Under is 5-0 in Argonauts last five games overall.
*Tiger-Cats are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a S.U. loss.
*Argos boast the top-ranked pass defense in the league, holding opponents to an average of 233.8 YPG.

Edmonton Eskimos at Calgary Stampeders (-3.5, 48.5)

Edmonton prevailed 26-17 over Toronto last week. The ground game continues to be the focus for the Eskimos (5-3) with new running back Cory Boyd now in the fold. Edmonton has the league’s worst passing attack at 239.5 YPG.

Calgary is also coming off a win last week, downing the Roughriders, 17-10. The Stampeders (4-4) also love to run the ball with their feature back Jon Cornish. The Calgary passing attack is sputtering with Kevin Glenn at the helm, so expect an old-fashioned ground war.

          TRENDS AND NOTES

*Under is 4-0 in Calgary’s last four games overall.
*Eskimos are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a S.U. win.
*Under is 3-0-1 in Eskimos’ last five road games.
