      Chiefs-Packers finish up preseason Thursday

      KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (1-2)

      at GREEN BAY PACKERS (1-2)

      NFL Preseason Game
      Kickoff: Thursday, 7:00 p.m. EDT
Line: Green Bay -1, Total: 40½

After two straight blowout losses, the Chiefs look to build some momentum when they head to Green Bay for the preseason finale for both teams.

Since starting the preseason with a 27-17 victory, Kansas City has been manhandled in two games since, getting outscored 73-31 in losses to St. Louis and Seattle. Meanwhile, Green Bay was able to get its offense in gear in last week’s 27-13 win over Cleveland, scoring more than it had in its first two preseason tilts (23 points). Although the Packers are clearly the better team here, the rebuilding Chiefs have more incentive to actually win this game, and will likely play their first team longer than Green Bay’s. K.C. is 3-1-1 ATS in the past five preseason meetings with the Packers, and it thoroughly dominated them at Lambeau Field last preseason, outgaining Green Bay 405-122 in a 20-19 loss that occurred only because the Chiefs committed five turnovers. And speaking of turnovers, the Packers have coughed it up 10 times in three preseason games. The pick here is KANSAS CITY to prevail.

This three-star FoxSheets trend also backs the Chiefs:

Play On - Underdogs or pick (KANSAS CITY) - after failing to cover the spread in 2 out of their last 3 games. (38-13 over the last 10 seasons.) (74.5%, +23.7 units. Rating = 3*).

Both Chiefs quarterbacks, Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn, will look for a major improvement from last week’s 44-14 beatdown from Seattle. Cassel went 19-of-34 for 168 yards (4.9 YPA), 1 TD and 1 INT, while Quinn was 5-for-10 for 44 yards (4.4 YPA). But not all was terrible, especially the ground game which piled up 145 yards on 25 carries (5.8 YPC), highlighted by Jamaal Charles’ 32 yards on six carries. Charles appears to be 100 percent recovered from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 1 last season. Although K.C. has allowed 73 points in the past two weeks, the real problem is that it hasn’t forced any turnovers. Seattle actually piled up more rushing yards (189) than passing yards (178) in the victory over the Chiefs.

The Packers really made a commitment to running the football in last week’s win over the Bengals, carrying the ball 40 times for 184 yards (4.6 YPC). This was quite an improvement from their 120 yards on 40 carries from the first two preseason games combined. Starting QB Aaron Rodgers actually led the team with 52 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just six carries, but newcomer Cedric Benson rumbled for 38 yards on just six carries against his former Cincinnati teammates last week. But Rodgers and the other two Green Bay signal callers did not throw the ball very effectively. Rodgers posted a 57.8 QB rating by going 12-of-22 for 154 yards, 0 TD and 1 INT. Backup Graham Harrell was even worse, tallying a 49.3 rating by completing just 5-of-12 passes for 26 yards (2.2 YPA). Third-stringer B.J. Coleman threw just two passes, completing one for eight yards. The Packers defense was especially sharp on third downs in last week’s win, holding the Bengals to a 1-of-12 conversion rate.
