Dysfunctional Magic Meet Sixers In Philly
The dysfunctional Orlando Magic play the Philadelphia 76ers in the City of Brotherly Love as part of a 9-game Saturday schedule.
The Magic lost on Thursday night to the Knicks, 96-80 as three-point home favorites. They have now lost five in a row, both straight up and against the spread, and have off-the-court issues with star Dwight Howard reportedly trying to get his coach Stan Van Gundy fired. It will be surprising if Van Gundy even lasts through the regular season.
Taking a quick look at Friday, there are 11 games overall, but one that really stands out, Phoenix at Denver with the Nuggets favored by three points and a 211-point total.
Danilo Gallinari (thumb) is expected to miss this game for Denver, and Wilson Chandler (groin) as well. That could really hurt the Nuggets, who sit tied with Houston in the seventh spot in the Western Conference. Phoenix is one game back in ninth and Utah 1½-games behind in 10th.
Getting back to the Magic, they are opening as 5-point underdogs Saturday at Philly with a total of 179. Power forward Ryan Anderson (ankle) is still questionable after missing the last two games. He is an underrated power forward by spacing the floor with his 3-point shooting, giving room to Howard in the middle.
Howard had just eight points against New York on eight shots. How he responds Saturday is a big question mark.
Defense has also been a problem for Orlando lately, allowing 100 points or more in four of its last five games. Philly is very good defensively at home, 84.9 PPG for the season and allowing 100 points just once in the last 24 games there. The ‘under’ is 25-11 in Philly’s last 36 home games.
Also on Saturday is the Los Angeles Clippers hosting the Sacramento Kings. Sacramento has guard Marcus Thornton (18.7 PPG) questionable with a calf injury. DonBest.com will open the Clippers as either 9½ or 11-point favorites depending on whether he plays. The total will be 201.
These teams met Thursday in Sacramento with the Clippers winning 93-85 as 3-point favorites. Thornton missed that game and team offense is just not the same without him. The Kings also really struggle on the road (5-22 SU, 13-14 ATS) and Don Best Sports NBA analyst Monte Scates believes they will be in trouble with the Clippers tough at home (20-9 SU) and making a playoff push.
