              7* total

still looking for asa 7* total.

in the meantime here is alatex's newsletter:

              Dixie Football Forecast NFL

Buffalo at NEW ENGLAND(-8.5 34) No reason to take the Bills here and go against the Patriots. This is still a meaningful game for New England, as they look to lock up the home field advantage. The Pats defense should suffocate a moribund Buffalo offense that struggled again last week. The Bills simply do not have the weapons on offense to move the ball against good defenses. Buffalo had just 177 total yards in their home loss to the Dolphins last week. New England picked off 5 Chad Pennington passes in their win over the Jets last week and they should make things miserable again for Drew Bledsoe this week. 1-star New England

Seattle at SAN FRANCISCO(no line) No line here due to the injuries to Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck and SF WR Terrell Owens, who is out. He should play this week in a game the Seahawks must win to have a playoff chance. San Francisco comes off their first road win of the year last week in Philly. Seattle also has one road win, but the Seahawks have been awful away from home, where they went 8-0. Neither team will have to look far for the reason they miss the playoffs this year. Seattle will try to get their 2nd road win in a tough place to play. The 49ers are 6-1SU at home on the year. Seattle’s run defense will likely prevent them from getting this win, however. The 49ers had 209 yards on the ground last week at Philly and they will take advantage of a soft Seattle unit. 1-star San Francisco

Philadelphia(-6.5 40) at WASHINGTON. Philly’s loss last week at home to the 49ers may not be that bad of a loss. While it may prevent them from gaining the home field advantage, it could also refocus the Eagles, who were on a 9-game win streak. One thing that it did was point out their failing run defense, as the 49ers had 209 yards on the ground. Don’t expect the Redskins to match that this week with their ailing offense. Philly will blitz early and often here and they should have their way with the Redskin offensive line. The Redskin defense also appears to have relaxed lately, as they allowed 429 total yards to the Bears last week, including 191 on the ground. The Eagles should bounce back with a big win here and earn a bye in the first round of the playoffs. 2-star Philadelphia

St. Louis(-10 45.5) at DETROIT. The Rams look to clinch home field throughout the NFC playoffs with a win this week in Detroit. The Lions have not been easy pickings at home, however, where they are 4-3. St. Louis has also been a different team away from home, where they have won 14 straight games. The Lions were awful last week in Carolina, as the Panthers outgained them 384-106. Expect a better effort this week in their final home game of the season. The early money flooded in on the Rams here, as they game opened at -8.5, but I do not agree with the line move. Look for the Lions to keep this one closer than expected. 1-star Detroit

Cleveland at CINCINNATI(-7.5 40.5) Cincinnati finds itself needing a win here and help from the Steelers on Sunday night at Baltimore. The Bengals should be able to procure a win here against a banged up, worn down Browns team. Cleveland wore down against the Raven running game last week and could not produce anything on offense in a 35-0 loss. The Browns offense should score this week, but they will have a tough time stopping the Cincy offense. Rudi Johnson and Corey Dillon should have big days on the ground. 1-star Cincinnati

Tampa Bay at TENNESSEE(-6.5 41) The Bucs disgraced themselves again last week at home against the Falcons. Once again, the offense killed itself with turnovers, as they had 4 in the first half alone. Tampa had a 440-267 yardage edge, but still came up on the short end of a 30-28 score. Tennessee stayed alive for its division race with its win over the Texans in Houston. Once again, Steve McNair showed his toughness and remarkable ability with a TD pass with under 30 seconds left on 4th down for the win. Tennessee can win the division, so there should be no letdown this week. At the same time, I wonder how much is left in the Bucs tank after yet another loss last week. The Titans are so banged up, however, I cannot lay the points with them. 1-star Tampa Bay

Jacksonville at ATLANTA(-3 43) The Falcons are now 2-1 with Michael Vick back at QB, but it has been the defense that has been the story. They picked off 4 passes in the win at Tampa Bay last week and had a solid outing three weeks ago here against Carolina. It is no coincidence that the defensive play has picked up with Vick back in the lineup. He allows the Falcons to keep the ball longer on offense, which rests the defense, and also doesn’t place them in such bad field position. I also think that his presence on the field elevates the spirit and performance of all his teammates, on offense or defense. This week the Falcons face a tough 5-10 team. The Jags survived the Saints last week, but the final score was no indication of the Jaguars’ dominance. Take away the 75-yard TD on the last play of the game and Jacksonville had a 100 yard edge. If not for 2 INTS and a blocked FG, the margin would have been 21 or so. This should be an interesting game, and both teams will be threats next year. 1-star Jacksonville

NY Jets at MIAMI(-4 37.5) The Dolphins sucked it up and got a road win in December in Buffalo last week, but it did them no good. Denver’s win at Indy eliminated the Dolphins from the playoffs, and rendered this game meaningless. With the questioning surrounding coach Dave Wannstedt, this could be his final game as a Dolphin. It will be interesting to see how the players respond this week. I would expect the Jets to have a good effort as they have not quit at all under Herman Edwards. Chad Pennington had his worst game as a pro last week, and he will look to bounce back from his 5 interceptions. I have to take the points. 1-star NY Jets

Dallas(-2.5 39) at NEW ORLEANS. It will be tough for either of these teams to get up this week. The Cowboys made the playoffs last week and while they can still improve their position with help, the simple fact of making it was beyond their expectations. Even with Bill Parcells’ motivational efforts, it will be tough for the Cowboys to have a solid effort here. For New Orleans, it will be tough for them to get out of bed this week after missing a PAT to send the Jacksonville game to OT. With that, their playoff chances flew out the window for the 3rd straight year. The Saints have nothing to play for here and given their history of disappointments, it would not surprise me to see an awful effort. Jim Haslett is on the hot seat anyway, and he will have a hard time convincing his troops to turn it on this week. I only wish these teams weren’t playing each other, so I could have two good plays this week. I’ll take the better coach here. 1-star Dallas

Chicago at KANSAS CITY(-10 45) The Bears won again last week at home over the Redskins to improve to 2-0 under Rex Grossman. Grossman led an explosion on offense for the Bears, as they had 429 total yards. This week will be his first road start, and it will be a difficult environment in Arrowhead Stadium. Luckily for Grossman, he should have the assistance of a solid running game. The Chief defense was trampled again by Minnesota last week for 469 yards, with 223 on the ground. The Chiefs’ run defense has been brutal lately, allowing 190ypg. KC won’t go anywhere in the playoffs unless they can fix their problems. No reason to lay double digits with a defense that cannot stop anyone, no matter the opponent. 1-star Chicago

Indianapolis(-7 44.5) at HOUSTON. Indy needs a win here to secure a home game in the playoffs. They reverted back to the ways of the old Colts last week in their home loss to Denver. The Broncos ran for 227 yards and controlled the ball for 45 minutes in their 31-17 win. Indy never had a chance to get their offense going as they couldn’t get the Broncos off the field. Indy will have another test this week against a Houston team that can be feisty on this field. The Texans battled the Titans to the final horn last week, losing on a late 4th down pass play. Houston got QB David Carr and RB Domanick Davis back in the lineup after they had missed the two previous games and it made a huge difference. Houston had 326 total yards after managing just 224 in the previous 2 games combined. Look for them to keep this one close as well. 1-star Houston

Carolina at NY GIANTS(no line) No line here due to the status of Giant QB Kerry Collins. He has missed the last two games and the offense has produced just 3 points in his absence. Collins isn’t the only missing starter, however, and his return is no guarantee that the Giants will be that much better on offense. This is the final game in the Jim Fassel era for New York, but I doubt that will inspire any special effort out of the players. Carolina will host a playoff game next week and cannot improve its positioning. They rested several key players last week and will do the same again this week. Tough game to call, especially with no line at the moment. Pass

Minnesota(-8 45) at ARIZONA. The Vikings have been a Jekyll and Hyde team the last few weeks. They bounced back from a road loss at Chicago to demolish the Chiefs at home last week. Now, they travel to Arizona for a game that will not be easy to win. Arizona’s three wins have been at home, and they have been competitive in 3 of their 4 home losses. The Cards play much better defense at home, and the grass should help neutralize the Minnesota speed outside. Minnesota is just 3-4 away from home and they will have a letdown after coming up with such an emotional effort last week. I will gladly take the touchdown and change with the Cards. 2-star Arizona

Denver at GREEN BAY(no line) No line here as the Packers play on Monday night. This will be a huge game for Green Bay, and now that Denver is in the playoffs, it is not that important for the Broncos. The death of Brett Favre’s father last Sunday will also have an effect on his and the team’s preparation this week. I’ll pass for now and see what info I can get on this game this week. Pass

Oakland at SAN DIEGO(no line) One of the only games in the past two weeks with absolutely no meaning whatsoever. Oakland is so banged up, they are already playing their backups, and I doubt that Marty will play his backups much for the Chargers. Both teams should be trying to win, but a loss would help more since it improves draft position. After the Raiders play on Monday night, they may not have much left, however. 1-star San Diego

Pittsburgh at BALTIMORE(-7 39) No reason to buck the Ravens here. They need the win to make the playoffs and they have been awesome at home. In their last three home games, they have been over 40 points scored, but not all of them have come on offense. The defense has been forcing turnovers and crushing backs and receivers. The Raven offense will be trying to get Jamal Lewis in the record books again here with another solid running game. Pittsburgh is playing out the string, and if they fall behind early, I cannot see them fighting and clawing too hard to get back in the game, especially if Baltimore is running the ball well. 1-star Baltimore
