    Key stat

30 – Wisconsin senior guard Rob Wilson hit seven treys and scored 30 points to help push the Badgers past the Indiana Hoosiers and into the Big Ten semifinals on Friday. Wilson, who averaged only 10.7 minutes and 3.1 points per game this season, easily topped his career-high of 13 points, while the Badgers shot 48.2 percent from the floor. Wisconsin faces Michigan State Saturday.

    Injury that shouldn’t be overlooked

John Henson, North Carolina Tar Heels - Henson suffered a wrist injury in an ACC tournament quarterfinal matchup with Maryland on Friday and is questionable for Saturday’s semifinal game against NC State. Henson hurt his left wrist when he crashed to the floor on a drive to the basket. He went to the locker room and returned to the game less than six minutes later with his wrist heavily taped. The ACC defensive player of the year, Henson was back on the bench less than a minute later. He averaged 14.2 points for North Carolina, which is battling for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

    Game of the day

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Michigan State Spartans (-3.5, N/A)

    Notable quotable

“I was so concentrating on the game I didn’t hear. If they were cheering for me, that’s very nice and very kind of them. From hating to love!” – Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov on the home fans chanting his name during a 5-0 shutout of the Florida Panthers. Bryzgalov is now 7-2-1 record, with a 1.95 goals-against average, a .926 save percentage and three shutouts over his last 11.

    Notes and tips

New Jersey Nets guard Deron Williams left Friday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats with a sore right calf and will not play Saturday against Houston. Williams injured his calf in the second quarter after scoring seven points with three rebounds and three assists. Williams had a career-high and franchise-record 57 points against the Bobcats on Sunday night. The 27-year-old is averaging 22.4 points and 8.2 assists per game this season.

Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green was suspended three games after a disciplinary hearing Friday as a result of his head to the head of Tampa Bay rookie Brett Connolly in Thursday's game. Injuries have limited Green to 20 games this season. He has three goals and three assists for the Caps, who visit the Bruins Saturday afternoon.

Houston Rockets guard Kyle Lowry has been admitted to a New York hospital for fever and abdominal distress, KRIV-TV reported Friday. Lowry underwent an abdominal diagnostic laparoscopic which was negative, according to the team. The Rockets have listed him as day-to-day. "Will be out of commission for a while!! Damn this sucks!!" Lowry posted on his Twitter account Friday. The 25-year-old is averaging 15.9 points per game this season.

The St. Louis Rams have agreed in principle to send the second overall pick in this year's draft to the Washington Redskins for three first-round draft picks and a second-round pick, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The trade is expected to become official Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET when the new league year starts. The Rams will receive Washington's first-round picks in each of the next three years, plus the Redskins' second-round pick in this year's draft. There's widespread speculation Washington traded up in hopes of selecting Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

      Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

-- Rams traded with Washington, moving down fron 2nd pick to 6th pick, and getting a 2nd-round pick this year and #1's in 2013/2014, all so the Redskins can draft Robert Griffin III.

-- Jets tried/failed to land Peyton Manning, so they gave Mark Sanchez a 3-year extension worth $40M, with $20M of it guaranteed. Weird.

-- Even weirder; Sanchez will make $2M more than Aaron Rodgers next year, and is now the 7th-highest paid QB in the NFL.

-- Clippers ended a 17-game losing streak in San Antonio Friday.

-- Lakers have now won 18 in a row against Minnesota, longest current streak by any one team over another.

-- Knicks lost their fifth straight road game, 119-114 in Milwaukee; will they make a move before the trading deadline?

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Wrapping up a Sports Friday.........

      13) Tough night for the Silver State, as UNLV lost 72-67 to New Mexico in the MWC tourney, after jumping out to a 12-0 lead after two minutes. At least the Rebels will still make the NCAA tournament.

      12) Crosstown at the Orleans Arena, 26-6 Nevada lost to Louisiana Tech 78-73 and is now headed to a disappointing berth in the NIT.

      11) Colorado will face Arizona in the Pac-12 title game in Buffaloes' first season in the league; Buffs upset Cal for second time, 70-59.

      10) Cal-Santa Barbara has beaten Long Beach State in last two Big West tournament finals; the two teams meet again in this year's final. 49ers beat UCSB twice this season, but this is the one that matters most.

      9) Its an old Metro Conference matchup in Big East final, as Cincinnati faces Louisville; Bearcats lead wire-to-wire in beating Syracuse, 71-68. Cardinals beat Notre Dame, who have never played in a Big East final.

      8) Atlantic 14 is wide-open after top seed Temple went down to UMass; Xavier came back from down 10 at half to beat rival Dayton, 70-69.

      7) For first time ever, all four top seeds made the semifinals of the Big Dozen tournament, with Michigan needing OT to nip Minnesota, 73-69.

      6) Baylor beat Kansas for first time in three tries 81-72; they're playing Missouri in the Big X final, in the Tigers' last conference game before they bolt to the SEC next season.

      5) Marshall showed no ill effects from winning in triple OT Thursday, as they beat Southern Miss 73-62 and will face Memphis Saturday morning for the C-USA title, playing for the fourth day in a row.

      4) Ole Miss sent Tennessee to the NIT with an OT win over the Vols; Rebels play Vandy next, a team that beat them 102-76 during the season.

      3) Ohio-Akron is the MAC final, as top two seeds advanced with pair of wins by a total of seven points.

      2) Illinois fired Bruce Weber, Nebraska canned Doc Sadler, as coaching carousel begins to spin faster. Weber will find a new coaching job quickly if he wants one. The Nebraska job ain't an easy one; we'll find out how committed they are to basketball with their new hire.

      1) Did I mention my Rams got two #1's and a #2 pick to move down four spots in the draft? Tremendous move by new GM Les Snead.

ACC tournament: Semifinals preview and picks
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NC State Wolfpack vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (-9.5, N/A)

            THE STORY
: Top-seeded North Carolina might not have ACC Defensive player of the Year John Henson for the ACC semifinals. Henson hurt his left wrist in Friday’s 85-69 victory over Maryland when he was fouled hard on a power move. While initial X-rays appeared negative, coach Roy Williams said Henson could not grip the ball after the injury. The 6-foot-11 Henson would come in handy against the Wolfpack, whose strong inside game powered them to a 67-64 victory over Virginia on Friday. North Carolina won the only regular season meeting, 86-74 at home on Feb. 21.

            TV: 1 p.m. ET, ESPN, ESPN3.com

ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA (28-4): Due to Henson’s injury, the Tar Heels got a glimpse of what James Michael McAdoo can do. The 6-9 freshman hit 5 of 8 shots for 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 29 minutes versus Maryland. He is only one of many offensive weapons, including Harrison Barnes (17.4 points, 5.1 rebounds) and ACC Player of the Year Tyler Zeller (16.3, 9.3). But Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said afterward that North Carolina is getting progressively better on defense, too.

ABOUT N.C. STATE (22-11): Sophomore forward C.J. Leslie hit 9 of 11 shots for 19 points and collected 14 rebounds to lead the Wolfpack past the Cavaliers, likely securing N.C. State’s NCAA tournament bid. The Wolfpack are nearly as gifted offensively as the Tar Heels. Point guard Lorenzo Brown ranks second in the ACC in assists (6.4). Forward Scott Wood has buried 15 of his 32 last 3-pointers and leads the conference in 3-point percentage (41.9).

SEC tournament: Semifinals preview and picks
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Florida Gators vs. Kentucky Wildcats (-9.5, N/A)

THE STORY: No. 19 Florida and No. 1 Kentucky are more accustomed to playing in the final of the SEC tournament, but meet this time in the semifinals. Their last three meetings in the tournament have come in the title game, with Kentucky winning in 2004 and 2011 and Florida prevailing in 2005. Kentucky handily dispatched the Gators twice during the regular season, winning by 20 in Lexington and by 15 in Gainesville in the regular season finale. Kentucky’s defense will be tested by Florida’s explosive offense, which leads the league in 3-point shooting.

              TV: 1 p.m. ET, ABC

ABOUT KENTUCKY (31-1): The Wildcats had their hands full in the first game of the tournament, but placed four in double figures and beat LSU with a strong second half. Kentucky won despite getting no points from Darius Miller and only two from Marquis Teague. Their ineffectiveness was offset by a pair of double-doubles from Terrence Jones and Anthony Davis, who sat much of the first half with foul trouble. Davis averaged 19 points and 9.0 rebounds in two games against Florida this year and Jones is averaging 13 points and 6.8 rebounds in five career games against the Gators.

ABOUT FLORIDA (23-9): Florida struggled to hold off Alabama in its quarterfinal, but used clutch free throw shooting (16 of 19) and 10 3-pointers to survive. The Gators broke a three-game losing streak, but were unable to get much traction against Alabama’s tough defense. Florida will need Patric Young to duplicate his effort in the season finale against Kentucky, where he had 21 points and nine rebounds against the Wildcats’ big guys. The Gators will need more production from Kenny Boynton, who had only seven points in the last meeting against Kentucky after getting 18 the first time around.

              TRENDS:

              - Kentucky is 3-0-1 against the spread in the last four meetings between the two teams.
              - Florida is 0-4 against the spread in its last four.
              - The over is 36-16 in Florida's last 52 overall.

              TIP-INS:

              1. Florida averages 10 3-pointers per game, but made only six in each game against Kentucky.

              2. Florida has made 19 of 23 free throws in two games with Kentucky; the Wildcats are 18 for 22.

              3. Florida reserve Casey Prather was available to play after returning from a lower back injury, but did not play against Alabama.

Hockey Night In Canada: NHL betting preview
                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philadelphia Flyers at Toronto Maple Leafs (+120, 5.5)

Short-handed on the back line and not exactly where they hoped to be in March, the Flyers are still firmly entrenched in the Eastern Conference playoff mix and will be looking to make quick work of the downtrodden Maple Leafs on Canada's primetime stage.

                      Backing the Bryz

Philadelphia fans are a fickle lot, and it's tough to impress them when there's not a large body of work to draw from. It took them two years, for instance, to fall in love with Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. And though he's in midst of his second year, they're still not crazy about Sixers guard Evan Turner yet.

Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov was headed down the same path in his first Philadelphia season, mainly because he wasn't playing all that well. But just as the year has hit the homestretch, the enigmatic netminder has settled into the role. He’s making the saves Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren always thought he would, when he traded for and signed him in the summer.

In fact, Bryzgalov, a former Phoenix Coyote, is undefeated (4-0) in March, has two shutouts and has allowed just five total goals in that span. He's been a prime factor in the Flyers easing into the No. 4 and No. 5 mix for Eastern Conference, and it appears his best days are still ahead.

                      From bad to worse

Much more went wrong for Toronto Tuesday than their 5-4 loss to the Bruins. In the road defeat, they lost left wing Joffrey Lupul to a separated shoulder. He will be sidelined for three to four weeks. Lupul was having a tremendous season, with 25 goals and 67 points. He wasn't been afraid to mix it up either, racking up 48 minutes in penalties.

How important is he? Consider the next night, without him and in virtual must-win mode, the Leafs were listless in a 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh. Lupul was injured on a hit from behind into the boards by Boston's David Krejci, and though he could be back in time for the final week of the schedule, it's also possible he won't take the ice again this season.

New Toronto coach Randy Carlyle's job was already tough enough. Without Lupul it sinks to a new level of difficulty.

                      Danny not delivering

Though things are well in Philadelphia right now - the Flyers are scoring goals, the patchwork defense is getting by and there's stability in goal - imagine how much better they'd be if forward Danny Briere was actually producing.

Briere, playing in his 800th game Thursday, didn’t score a goal for the 21st consecutive contest in a 5-0 decision over Florida at home. In fact, in 57 games this season, he has just 13 goals and 36 points. Keep in mind, this is a player who has topped 30 goals four times in his career and 20 goals six times.

For now, Philadelphia is not suffering through this slump along with Briere. But if this keeps up, the Flyers' stay in the postseason might be a short one.

                      History

The Flyers have won both games in this series, including a 4-3 decision on Feb. 9 in Philadelphia. Both games, including the Flyers' 4-2 win on Oct. 24 at home, have gone over. But beware of Philadelphia on Saturdays. They have lost three of the last four Saturday contests overall.

Montreal Canadiens at Vancouver Canucks (-230, 5.5)

Two Canadian teams on the opposite end of the playoff spectrum collide in Vancouver. The Canucks have a battle on their hands for the No. 1 seed in the West. But for them, it's simply a matter of staying healthy and getting ready for the second season, regardless of seed, as they try to undo last year's runner-up finish.

                      Team USA

Vancouver’s radio team was calling them the All Americans. They’ve also been tabbed the American Express Line. But call them what you will but when head coach Alain Vigneault teams up American forwards Ryan Kesler, Chris Higgins and David Booth, good things happen. And that’s all that matters for the Canucks.

The Canucks outlasted Winnipeg, 3-2, to snap a modest two-game skid Thursday. In the win, Kesler scored his 20th goal of the season, Higgins notched his 22nd assist and together, the trio combined for 16 shots on net.

They’ve all been good, but the key is Kesler, who has battled back from injury. And though he won’t get to the 41 goals he notched last season in his breakout campaign, he is rounding into form at the right time.

                      Scott on the spot

After missing two games with a right eye injury, embattled Montreal veteran forward Scott Gomez returned to the lineup Thursday, as the Canadiens defeated Edmonton, 5-3.

It is still hard to believe that Gomez, who won two Stanley Cups with New Jersey in 2000 and 2003, has just two goals on the season. But perhaps his brief respite will get him refocused. He didn’t have a shot against the Oilers, but finished with an assist - his ninth of the year - and was a plus-1.

In a campaign where nothing has gone right for the Alaska native, he’ll take anything he can get and that was a good start.

                      Alexander the Great

Lot of critics questioned whether letting skilled defenseman Christian Ehrhoff go at the end of last season's disappointing finish in Vancouver was the right thing to do. After all, Ehrhoff was a big part of a team that did stretch the Stanley Cup final to seven games.

But Alexander Edler has made fans forget about Ehrhoff, now with the Sabres. In fact, Edler scored the winner against Winnipeg Thursday and now has 10 goals for just the second time in his career. He also has 33 assists for a career-high 43 points.

The 6-foot-3, 217-pound left-handed shot never had more than 161 shots on net in a given season before this one. This year, with his total of seven from Thursday night, he now has 193.

                      History

The Canadiens are going nowhere fast, and have a ton of questions to answer before they start playing meaningful games again, but don't sleep on them versus Vancouver. In fact, in the last three meetings against the Canucks, dating back to Nov. 9, 2010, Montreal has won two of the three against the defending Western Conference champions. Two of those three games have gone under.

                        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Jersey Devils at New York Islanders (+115, 5)

When Ilya Kovalchuk is on a hot streak, there may not be a more dominant player in the league.

He scored three times on four shots against the Islanders Thursday, helping the Devils to a 5-1 win. He now has five points in his last two games and leads the team with 29 goals and 67 points in 62 games.

"He is definitely the most-skilled player I've played with," goalie Martin Brodeur said. "Not to take away from some of the guys I've played with throughout the years, but this guy is special. It's how explosive he is on his skates, how strong he is with his legs that makes him such a tough player to defend.”

The Islanders know how dangerous he is, but there just isn’t much they can do to contain Kovalchuk when he’s flying like this.

New York has won just three of its last nine and only two of its last eight meetings with the Devils.

                        Pick: Devils

San Jose Sharks at Phoenix Coyotes (-105, 5)

Both the Sharks and Coyotes are desperate to put an end to their respective losing streaks.

Phoenix has lost five straight and has dropped to seventh place in the West, while San Jose has lost four in a row and sits just a point behind the Coyotes.

San Jose dropped a 4-3 shootout decision at Dallas on Thursday, but did pick up a point for the second straight game.

"For a team that has struggled to score lately, for a team that has struggled to put up any offensive opportunities, we had a number of really good looks at the net," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "We had at times real good traffic. ... There will be some nights coming up when those will go in and we'll have plenty of it (goal scoring) to win.”

The Sharks also had 48 shots on goal in that loss, so they may be on the verge of snapping this skid. It’s hard to say the same about the Coyotes, who just dropped consecutive games to the Blue Jackets and Wild.

                        Pick: Sharks
