Monday's betting tips: Saint Mary's in ATS slump

    Who’s hot

NBA: The Hornets are 6-0 ATS in their last six road games.

NBA: The Raptors are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven home games.

NHL: The Penguins are 9-1 in their last 10 home games.

NHL: The Sabres are 6-2 in their last eight road games.

NCAAB: Bowling Green is 12-0 ATS in its last 12 games following a SU loss.

NCAAB: The under is 6-2 in the last eight Miami (Ohio)-Toledo games.

    Who’s not

NBA: The 76ers are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games.

NBA: The Nuggets are 2-7 ATS in their last nine home games.

NHL: The under is 2-7 in the Penguins’ last nine home games.

NHL: The home team is 3-12 in the last 15 Oilers-Ducks games.

NCAAB: Ball State is 2-8 ATS in its last 10 games.

NCAAB: St. Mary’s is 2-6 ATS in its last eight games.

    Key stat

38.2 percent – That’s what Gonzaga shoots from beyond the arc, best in the West Coast Conference. Saint Mary’s ranks eighth of nine WCC teams in defending the 3-pointer, allowing opponents to shoot 36.7 percent. The rivals play Monday night in Las Vegas for the conference championship.

    Injuries that shouldn’t be overlooked

The Hornets’ Trevor Ariza (11.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.4 apg) is expected to return for Monday’s game against the Trail Blazers after missing two straight with an illness. Portland’s Marcus Camby (9.1 rpg, 1.5 bpg) also is expected to play despite suffering a chin laceration and sprained neck while diving for a loose ball in Saturday’s loss to Minnesota.

    Game of the day

Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder (-7. 195)

    Notable quotable

"We have a chance to be better than we were last year, but we’re going to be a little different kind of team. Last year I feel like especially early on we were having to win games, 6-4, 7-5, and things like that. Whereas this year, I feel like we’re going to win a lot of games, 4-2, 3-2. We’re going to rely a little more on our starting rotation and our bullpen and the games are going to be a little more National League. I still feel like our offense is great. I think it’s solid. But I don’t think we’re going to have to out-slug other teams.” – Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman.

    Notes and tips

Michigan State freshman Branden Dawson tore his ACL in Sunday's 72-70 loss and is done for the season. Dawson, averaging 8.5 points and 4.6 rebounds, was guarding Ohio State's William Buford in the first half when he fell in the lane and grabbed his left knee. The Spartans next play Friday in the Big Ten tournament.

After completing a perfect regular season in the SEC, Kentucky coach John Calipari thanked ESPN for its commercial showing Indiana’s buzzer-beating shot to beat the Wildcats. “Every time they show it, our players get mad,” Calipari said. “They’ve done one of the greatest services for our program by having that advertisement.” The 30-1 Wildcats, whose only blemish came at Indiana, are heavy favorites to win the SEC tournament that starts Thursday.

Clemson senior swingman Tanner Smith suffered a concussion in Sunday’s 80-72 loss at Florida State. His status for Thursday’s ACC tournament opener was not immediately known. Perhaps the Tigers’ best all-around player, Smith averages 11.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews missed Sunday’s game against the Red Wings, his seventh straight, and has been ruled out for Tuesday’s contest in St. Louis. A source told ESPN.com that Toews has a concussion and continues to work out off the ice in Chicago.

      Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

Mets' top draft picks from 2002-7, guys who should be helping the big league club right about now......

2002-- Scott Kazmir, P-- Helped Rays get to World Series in

2008, is now looking for work after having ton of control problems.

2003-- Lastings Milledge, OF-- Overrated player got chance with three different big league clubs, has pretty much been a bust.

2004-- Philip Humber, P-- Like most pitchers from Rice, a disaster at the pro level.

2005-- Mike Pelfrey, P-- Still with Mets, should do better this year as the #3 or #4 starters. With Santana out, he was the ace-- yikes.

2006-- Kevin Mulvey, P-- Was in Arizona system last season.

2007-- Eddie Kunz, P-- Was in San Diego system last season.

      *****************

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Sunday.......

      13) Holding the franchise scoring record for the Nets carries some weight, since Julius Erving played there; well, Deron Williams lit up the pathetic Bobcats for 57 points in New Jersey's 104-101 win Sunday in Charlotte, as Bobcats refused to double him on pick and roll, so he went nuts.

      12) Rajan Rondo had 18 points, 17 rebounds, 20 assists, only the second guy in NBA history with a 15-15-15 triple double (Jason Kidd did it two times) as Boston beat the Knicks in overtime, 115-111.

      11) Bad idea to go to Jiffy Lube on a Sunday; crying babies, old couples with hearing problems yelling at each other, pretty much total chaos.

      10) Rhode Island fired basketball coach Jim Baron, who was 184-167 in 11 seasons at URI, 20-14 LY, 7-24 this year. Baron has to be paid for the last two years of his contract, but supposedly a private source is going to be used to pay off Baron's contract, which tells me the private source is who wanted Baron fired. Pretty sad; he's a good coach.

      9) Golfer Tom Gillis is 43; he's had quite a career, playing professionally in 26 different countries. 26. Guy should write a book. When he birdied the 18th Sunday, he made himself an extra $160,000 by tying for second.

      8) They said on the NASCAR race Sunday that the average car gets about 4.25 laps per gallon at the Phoenix Speedway, which is 1.6 miles long, so thats roughly 6.81 miles per gallon.

      7) Speaking of gas, the price of gas at the corner of Fuller/Central near the world headquarters of ***************.com was $4.09 today; half a mile away, at corner of Wolf/Sand Creek, it was $3.95, down from the $4.05 it was at one point last week. 10 miles north on route 9 in Clifton Park, it is $3.81-- their gas musn't be as good as gas in Colonie. Greedy bastards.

      6) Middle Tennessee won 25 games this year, was clearly the best team in the Sun Belt Conference, but they got beat in first game of the conference tournament, so that bracket is totally wide open, especially after UALR got beat by Western Kentucky. Tourney is now Denver's to lose. Very disappointing loss for a good Middle Tennessee team.

      5) Guess the Georgia State win Saturday took lot out of George Mason-- they fell behind VCU 22-2, then 41-13, before making the final score little more respectable, losing by 10. You don't see lot of 22-2 scores in these conference tournaments, especially with a good team on short end.

      4) Michigan State was up 24-9 on Ohio State, then up nine at half, before Buckeyes rallied in second half and ruined Spartans' Senior Day, 72-70.

      3) Pac-12 is a mess; Stanford beat Cal, making Washington regular season champ; highest-rated Pac-12 team, heading into the conference tourney, is Cal, too high at #22, then strangely enough, UCLA at #43.

      2) Golf announcers damn near swallowed their mikes as Eldrick Woods shot 62 Sunday; the whole sport needs Woods to be successful, so even opposing players should be rooting for him, to a degree. Just have feeling that he played well Sunday because he thought he had no shot to win, so he relaxed and did better. We'll see how he does this weekend at Doral.

      1) So Tim Tebow was a guest preacher Sunday at the church in Las Vegas where the Tarkanians attend; you can't make this stuff up.

          Armadillo's Write-Up

          Monday, March 5

Eastern Michigan beat Northern Illinois twice this season, 47-40 (-2) in DeKalb Jan 7, then 48-45 (-8.5) at home Feb 22; hard to lay points in this game, since Eagles shoot just 40.7% inside arc, 6th-worst mark in country. Eastern is 3-2 in this round last five years, with wins by 3-4-6 points. Huskies haven't won conference tourney game since 2003, with four of last six losses by 6 or less points. Northern lost six of last seven games, with four of the six losses by 10+ points.

Over last seven years, Ball State is 0-5 in this round of MAC tourney, with last three losses all by 4 or less points, or in OT; Cardinals split its games with Western Michigan this year, with home side winning both. Ball State (-6.5) won 78-69 Jan 7 in Muncie, then lost 78-61 (+3.5) Feb 22 in Kalamazoo. Ball snapped out of 1-9 funk by winning last couple games, allowing 52-51 points. Broncos are 11-8 in this event last nine years, 4-1 in this round- they lost eight of their last 10 games overall.

Toledo won five of last six games overall and four in row at home, but it also had awful loss at Northern Illinois; Rockets (+8.5) won 63-61 Jan 25 at Miami, in only meeting this season. Toledo is 0-3 in this tourney last three years, allowing average of 79.7 ppg, but at 7-8 this year, this is best Rockets have done in MAC since '08. This is only second time in decade Miami hasn't gotten tourney bye; Redhawks lost last four games on foreign soil, by 3-15-10-5 points.

Central Michigan (+8.5) lost 71-58 at Bowling Green Jan 25, as Central players other than Ziegler shot just 30.6% for night, while Falcons shot 51% for game. Chippewas lost first MAC tourney game last two years, by 9-14 points; they're 3-1 in this round last five years, and are getting better slowly, splitting last six games overall-- four of last six losses are by seven or less points. Over last six years, more experienced Falcons are 1-4 in this round of tourney.

          CAA tournament
Drexel won its last 19 games, VCU won 16 of last 17; Rams lost 64-58 at Drexel Jan 8, in only series meeting this year. Dragons played seven guys in Saturday's win, really six Sunday (7th guy played 3:00), with three starters playing 34+ minutes in both games last two nights. Drexel won 19 games in row, last losing January 2 at Georgia State. VCU got off to a 41-13 start over rival George Mason Sunday, led by 16 at half, coasted home. Richmond site means Rams will have crowd advantage.

          MAAC tournament
Fairfield underachieved during regular season, finishing T3 in league they were picked to win. Stags don't go to their bench a lot, playing three of their starters 36+ minutes Sunday, after they used those same guys 32+ minutes Saturday. Loyola caught break when Siena upset Manhattan Saturday- they won first two tourney games by 13-10, shooting 63/51% from floor in those wins. Road team won both series meetings this year, as Stags won 68-51 at Loyola, after Greyhounds won 66-63 at Fairfield.

          Summit tournament
#1 seed Oral Roberts/#2 seed South Dakota State played Saturday, their opponents played last night, so they have that advantage.

#1 seed has gotten to Summit League final last nine years; Oral Roberts beat Western Illinois twice this season, 71-70 (-4.5) in Macomb Jan 12, in double OT, then 61-51 (-12) at home Feb 11. Eagles won seven in a row, 20 of last 21 games; since 2005, they're 5-1 in this round of Summit tourney, winning semifinal games by 11-19-21-16-6 points. WIU played all five starters 31+ minutes last night; none of four subs they used got more than seven minutes on floor.

Southern Utah was down 11 with 2:40 left before rallying to pull off an unlikely 84-82 upset over Oakland last night; Thunderbirds shot 58% for night, surviving Oakland's 15-27 onslaught behind arc in game where defense wasn't a priority. South Dakota State beat SUU twice this year, 75-68 (-5) on road Jan 5, then 66-56 (-15) at home Feb 4. Jackrabbits are team with four guys who make 40%+ behind arc (39.6% as team, #4 in country protecting ball). SUU'swin last night was tough game.

          Sun Belt tournament
North Texas is 14-3 in this tournament last five years, losing in final LY after winning it year before; Mean Green won Sunday night, despite star Mitchell being held to 5 points- home team won both their games with . Arkansas State this season. ASU upset top-seed Middle Tennessee last night, thanks to Blue Raiders going 0-5 from foul line in last minute; ASU's bench played a total of only 63 minutes in last two games, with all five starters going 30+ minutes both games last two nights.

Western Kentucky covered 11 of their last 13 games, winning SU as the underdog last two nights; they've won last four games overall, but lost 78-65 (+15) at Denver Jan 15, with Pioneers making 10-17 behind arc in game they led 43-16 at half. Denver won its last five games, all by 11+ points covering four, and non-cover was win by 19 over UL-Monroe in game they laid 20.5. Denver's Princeton offense tough to prep for in a day, tough to guard when playing third day in row.

          WCC tournament
WCC finalists had Sunday off, so this should be higher quality game, as Gonzaga-St Mary's meet in WCC final for fourth year in row, Bulldogs won two of previous three, all decided by 12+ points- they've won six of last eight WCC tourneys overall. Home side won both Gonzaga-St Mary's games this season; Gaels (-4) won 83-62 in first meeting Jan 12, then lost rematch 73-59 (+3.5) Feb 9 in Spokane. Defensive ace Holt is still out for St Mary's. Both teams are in NCAAs, no pressure here.

Conference tourneys: Coaches who care and others who don't
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roy Williams doesn't care about the ACC tourney and he doesn't care if you know.

"It's what it is," Williams told reporters in March 2009. "I said it's for money, said it's the biggest cocktail party. It's still a party, I don't care what anybody says. It's a party to make money. ... I loved it as a fan, I don't love it as much as a coach with the attention the other tournament gets and the emphasis we try and put on it.”

The North Carolina Tar Heels have won or shared the regular season ACC crown five times since Williams took over the program in 2003, but they’ve only won the ACC tourney twice under Williams.

The Heels are 0-8-1 against the spread in the last four seasons and 2-13-2 ATS overall in conference tournament games since Williams returned to Chapel Hill. This is normally the part where we make a judgment call and guess that Williams doesn’t care too much for conference tournaments but thankfully Williams doesn’t hide his feelings for pre-Tournament tournaments.

That’s why we love conference tournament time so much. Everyone’s motivated for the Big Dance; that’s not the case for conference tournaments.

Here’s a look at a few other big-name coaches and how they fare in conference tournaments.

              ANOTHER TO FADE

              Tom Izzo, Michigan State

You think Big Ten basketball and Michigan State is the first program that comes to mind. The Spartans have made it to the Final Four six times since 1999 and, if they beat Ohio State Sunday, will have seven Big Ten championships since 1998.

Izzo is a master motivator and always gets the most out of his teams, but not in the Big Ten tournament. MSU hasn’t won one since 2000 and is 8-11 ATS with four one-and-dones since.

              TWO TO BACK

              Mike Krzyzewski, Duke

Coach K is OK with conference tourneys. The Blue Devils have won 10 of the last 13 ACC tournaments. Duke is 19-19 ATS in ACC tourney games since 1998 but went 3-0 last year.

              John Calipari, Kentucky

Dating back to his days at Memphis, Calipari has won six straight conference tournaments. Sure, only two of those came at Kentucky and the competition in C-USA isn’t the same, but at least we can tell Coach Cal isn’t holding anything back for conference tournaments.

              FROM THE DATABASE

Here are a few numbers to remember courtesy of Covers Expert Marc Lawrence:

Roy Williams, at UNC, is 7-0 SU and ATS in ACC conference tourney games versus .500 or worse opponents, and 0-6 SU and ATS versus .800 or greater foes.

More diddies from Lawrence’s DB (since 1990):

Jim Boeheim 27-18 SU and ATS / 12-5 ATS L17 / 13-2 ATS as dog of 6 or less
John Calipari 39-7 SU and 28-18 ATS / 20-5 SU and 19-6 ATS vs. opponents with .600 or better winning percentage
Billy Donovan 20-12 SU and 17-13-2 ATS / 1-5 ATS as dog
Bob Huggins 34-11 SU and 23-21-1 ATS / 0-5 ATS vs. No. 11 or lower seed
Tom Izzo 15-12 SU and 12-15 ATS / 1-5 ATS as double-digit fave
Rick Pitino 31-8 SU and 23-15-1 ATS / 5-0 ATS as favorite larger than 16
Bill Self 22-5 SU and 13-14 ATS / 4-8 ATS L12 / 4-0 SU and ATS vs .800 or better opponents

Miami RedHawks at Toledo Rockets (-2, 127.5)

Toledo gets to play at home in the first round of the MAC tournament, and the Rockets enter this 7 vs. 10 matchup on a high note.

In Saturday’s 76-51 win over Eastern Michigan, Rian Pearson had 27 points and 11 rebounds, his eighth double-double this season. Curtis Dennis added a career-high 21 points.

Toledo has gone 6-2 SU and ATS in its last eight games, and is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 home games.

In the earlier meeting between these teams, the Rockets won 63-61 on Jan. 25. They’re playing better ball now. Miami, meanwhile, has dropped three straight.

                Pick: Rockets

Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. Saint Mary’s Gaels (1.5, 133.5)

Gonzaga guard Kevin Pangos torched the Gaels for 27 points when they met in Spokane on Feb. 9, a 14-point Bulldogs win.

On Saturday, Pangos poured in 30 points as Gonzaga dismantled BYU. Now it's up to the Gaels to stop him in the WCC championship game in Vegas.

"Every way you can get a shot, he knows how to get it," Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett said. "But he's more than that. He's a good penetrator. I think he's become the head of the monster up there. He's what makes them go."

The Bulldogs won’t even have defensive stopper Stephen Holt to try to defend Pangos. He is rehabbing an injured knee.

Gonzaga is 4-0 ATS in its last four neutral-site games.

                Pick: Bulldogs

Pucking the trends: This week's best NHL bets
                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every week, we update you on who's hot, who's not and situational betting spots in the National Hockey League.

                  HOT TEAM: Pittsburgh Penguins

No one is about to say they don’t need him, or that it doesn’t matter when he returns, but Pittsburgh is doing fine these days without Sidney Crosby. The Penguins hammered Colorado 5-1 on Saturday and take a five-game win streak into Monday’s date with the Coyotes.

Catching the Rangers for the Atlantic Division lead, and the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, might be a bit of a stretch, but Evgeni Malkin and Co. have a shot. Monday's tilt begins a four-game homestand that features three other winnable games: Toronto, Florida and Boston.

Malkin, through Saturday, had 38 goals and 80 points. James Neal and Jordan Staal have also come up big in Crosby's absence, combining for 51 goals.

They are good, they are hot, and Crosby or not, the Penguins will be one of those playoff teams that no one wants to face.

                  COLD TEAM: Montreal Canadiens

A bit of an easy target, for sure, but when you lose to Toronto, 3-1, on Hockey Night in Canada, with all that's hovering over the Maple Leafs these days, you're going to end up in this space more times than not.

The Canadiens have lost six of their last seven, and the defeats weren't exactly to Murderers’ Row. Montreal has dropped decisions to New Jersey, Dallas, Washington, Florida and Tampa Bay during this skid, and the setback to the Maple Leafs was demoralizing, even for the Eastern Conference's worst team.

                  OVER PLAY: Tampa Bay Lightning

Don't tell Steven Stamkos the Lightning are out of the jumbled Eastern Conference playoff race. Several teams at the bottom of the totem pole have struggled through the late winter, but Tampa Bay is sizzling at the right time, and may even rally to win the division.

Stamkos scored two goals on Saturday night, leading the Lightning to a 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. He now has 47 goals, which leads the league, and Tampa Bay was just four points out of the Southeast Division lead Sunday morning, and two points out of the eighth playoff berth in the East.

The Lightning have won seven of their last 10 headed into Tuesday's date with Ottawa, and they are clearly back to playing up-and-down hockey along the way. That is music to totals players, of course, because Tampa Bay has gone over in five of the last six games, and is now 41-23-1 over for the season.

                  UNDER PLAY: Anaheim Ducks

Though the Capitals may not want to admit it, Bruce Boudreau can coach a little bit. And though Anaheim likely won’t mount a furious rally and snare the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference, the Ducks have stemmed the tide, thanks to their new coach.

They lost to rival Los Angeles, 4-2, on Saturday night, but despite their awful start the Ducks are 28-28-10 headed into Monday’s game vs. Edmonton. Not bad, considering where they came from. Right wing Corey Perry has 31 goals and 52 points.

But the biggest difference in the Boudreau Era is on the back line, as the Ducks have combined solid goaltending with smart defense. And that has translated to unders. Tons of them.

Saturday’s over versus the Kings snapped a 10-game under streak, including four games where they allowed one goal or less. And for the season, Anaheim is a stunning 25-39-2 over, a delight to under bettors.

                  SURVEYING THE SCHEDULE:

** March came in like a lion for the Bruins, who will seven games in the first 11 days. Not easy opponents, either, for the Stanley Cup champions. This run, when it's said and done, will have featured dates with the Rangers, Penguins and surging Sabres.

** Detroit can take a bit of a breath this week, so expect some fresh legs from the Red Wings moving forward. After Sunday’s meeting with the Blackhawks, Detroit plays just one game in the next four days -- a rare visit to Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Ice picks: Monday's best NHL bets
                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phoenix Coyotes at Pittsburgh Penguins (-165, 5.5)

Pittsburgh has averaged 4.6 goals during its five game win streak.

Phoenix knows firsthand how dangerous the Pens can be. It’s allowed 10 goals in its last two meetings with Pittsburgh – both losses – and has given up a total of nine goals in its last two outings overall – both losses.

The Coyotes have been slow out of the blocks in recent games, getting outscored 10-2 in the first period over the past six outings. That includes a 4-0 count in those last two defeats.

The over is 7-2 in Pittsburgh's last nine home games, and 13-3-2 in the Pens' last 18 games following a win.

                  Pick: Over

Buffalo Sabres at Winnipeg Jets (-130, 5)

Ryan Miller is peaking at just the right time. After a dismal start to the season, the former Vezina Trophy winner has righted the ship by helping the Buffalo Sabres collect 13 of a possible 14 points (6-0-1) in their last seven games.

After Miller posted back-to-back shutouts, coach Lindy Ruff's club continued its winning ways by posting a 5-3 triumph win at Vancouver on Saturday.

Winnipeg made a statement in its bid to win the Southeast Division by cruising to a 7-0 victory over Florida on Thursday. Evander Kane collected his first four-point performance of his career by scoring twice and setting up a pair of goals. Kane is now riding a career-best eight-game point streak.

With both teams playing superbly, the edge goes to the home squad. The home team is 5-1 in the last six meetings, and the favorite is 6-1 in the last seven meetings.

                  Pick: Jets

You have to feel good if you believed in Ricky Rubio and Kyrie Irving. Just as you probably feel sick if you backed Michael Jordan’s Bobcats.

Here are two teams that are locks to go over, two that are locks to go under, and two that could go either way:

Win totals courtesy of Cantor Gaming.

                          GOING OVER

                          Minnesota Timberwolves: 23.5

The T-Wolves have won six of nine and are 19-19 heading into Monday’s game at the Clippers. In Saturday’s 122-110 win in Portland, Minnesota’s first victory over the Trail Blazers since 2007, Kevin Love exploded for 42 points on 15-of-27 shooting. The entertaining Rubio ranks fifth in the league in assists (8.3) and second in steals (2.3).

                          Cleveland Cavaliers: 17.5

Hard to believe, but Irving is making a lot of Cavs fans forget about LeBron. The No. 1 overall pick is averaging 18.5 points while shooting over 48 percent. Cleveland has lost five straight entering Monday’s home game vs. Utah, but the 13-22 Cavs only need five more wins to go over.

                          GOING UNDER

                          Charlotte Bobcats: 17.5

Charlotte has won once since Jan. 14 and is 4-31 after watching Deron Williams explode for 57 points on Sunday. In a season in which offense has been a struggle, it’s been doubly tough for the Bobcats. They average a league-worst 86.7 points.

                          Milwaukee Bucks: 32.5

Milwaukee has won two of its last 12, putting the team at 14-23 heading into Monday’s home game against Philly. The Bucks would need to finish 19-10 to go over, and it’s not going to happen. Center Andrew Bogut (fractured ankle) doesn’t appear likely to return this season. He was averaging 11.3 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks.

                          UP IN THE AIR

                          Los Angeles Clippers: 42.5

At 21-13 heading into Sunday night’s game in Houston, the Clips need to go 22-10 the rest of the way to go over. The Houston game is the third on a difficult six-game trip that also includes visits to Minnesota and San Antonio. But then L.A. plays a six-game homestand, with no elite teams on the docket.

                          Miami Heat: 51.5

The King's team has lost two straight to fall to 28-9. The Heat needs to finish 24-5, a small margin for error, to go over. The good news is that Chris Bosh should return for Tuesday’s game against the Nets. He missed three games due to his grandmother’s death.

Golden State Warriors at Washington Wizards (NA)

The end of the Warriors’ five-game road trip can’t come soon enough. The Warriors have been without guard Stephen Curry due to a foot injury in the last four and have had trouble putting points on the board. Usually one of the highest-scoring teams in the NBA, the Warriors have been held to 80.3 over the past four. The low point came on Sunday, when Golden State shot 36 percent in an 83-75 loss at Toronto.

The Washington Wizards represent the last stop on the trip. The Wizards rank 29th in the NBA in scoring defense and have surrendered at least 98 points in each of their last eight games. But Washington snapped a six-game slide with a 101-98 victory over Cleveland on Saturday.

Washington has played hard recently, coming up just short in losses to Sacramento, Milwaukee and Orlando sandwiched around the All-Star Break. The Wizards finally broke through on Saturday, grabbing a fourth-quarter lead and hanging on until the finish. The backcourt duo of John Wall and Jordan Crawford handled the bulk of the scoring against the Cavaliers. Wall is averaging 24.3 points over the last four games and has cut his turnovers down in the last two as well.

Andray Blatche returned to the lineup for the first time since Jan. 28 on Saturday and chipped in nine rebounds.

Washington is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings.

                          Pick: Wizards

Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder (-7, 195)

If the Thunder are going to become the best in the West, they’ll need to go through the reigning NBA champion first. Oklahoma City has gone 2-1 in its three meetings with Dallas this season, most recently taking a 95-86 road victory on Feb. 1.

Dallas' ongoing drama with reserve forward Lamar Odom is over – for now. After leaving the team for undisclosed personal reasons on Feb. 22 and being threatened with a demotion to the D-League, Odom returned to the team Saturday and issued an apology for his abrupt departure.

The best news for the Mavs was the eruption by Dirk Nowitzki, who scored a season-high 40 points in Saturday's win over Utah.

OKC point guard Russell Westbrook looked mostly healthy in the team's loss to Atlanta, scoring 25 points despite an ankle injury. But he grabbed no rebounds and had just four assists. The Thunder could not overcome 21 turnovers.

Dallas is 12-3-1 in its last 16 visits to Oklahoma City.

                          Pick: Mavericks

St. Mary's is the pick (+3) according to Dunkel, which has the game Even. Dunkel Pick: St. Mary's (+3). Here are all of today's picks.
