          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ice picks: Tuesday's best NHL bets
          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vancouver Canucks at Nashville Predators (-120, 5.5)

Something has to give when two of the Western Conference’s hottest teams collide Tuesday.

The Canucks have nine points in their last five games and are the conference’s best road team at 17-9-1. Defenseman Kevin Bieksa played a big role in their 3-2 shootout win over Colorado on Saturday.

After coughing up a puck that ended up in the Vancouver goal earlier in the game, he made a diving save to prevent an empty net goal late in regulation and then scored the tying marker with 34.1 seconds remaining in the third.

That doesn't mean he was satisfied with the effort.

"We're giving up a few chances, but we're just not quite there in our zone right now," Bieksa told the team's official website. "We're not sharp enough, we're trying to place a little bit more of an effort on that and coming out from there. We were a little bit better (Saturday), but obviously we can be better."

The Preds have won six of their last seven, but the Canucks are rounding into form.

          Pick: Canucks

St. Louis Blues at Ottawa Senators (+110, 5)

At this point, the Ottawa Senators are just hoping that they finally reached rock-bottom with Saturday’s embarrassing 5-0 loss to rival Toronto.

That defeat triggered alarm bells as it was the club’s sixth straight loss, dropping the Sens to seventh place in the Eastern Conference ahead of Monday’s action. However, the team is trying to stay calm

“You’ve got to look at the whole picture,” Jason Spezza told reporters Saturday. “Our last two weeks have been really bad and we’ve lost games that we shouldn’t have lost and we’ve blown some leads that we shouldn’t have blown.

“You have to look at the season as a whole. We’re happy to be in this position and now we’ve got some important games down the stretch. We’ve put ourselves in a position to play some important games.”

St. Louis is struggling a bit too with just one win in its last four, while scoring just nine goals in its last 11 games.

Expect a tight-checking game as both teams try to grind their way out of their respective slumps.

          Pick: Under
