Ice picks: Tuesday's best NHL bets
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edmonton Oilers at Columbus Blue Jackets (-120, 5.5)
The Edmonton Oilers have been struggling with consistency and injuries for the better part of this season. There was no excuse for Saturday’s 5-0 home loss to Anaheim though.
Edmonton bounced back with a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings Sunday and now has a chance to build some momentum in Columbus.
"(Anaheim) wasn't our best effort, the guys know that, and we really wanted to respond in a good way, for (head coach) Tom (Renney) and for our whole organization," Taylor Hall told reporters. "Because that's not the way we want to play. For us to play like we did against a really good team, that's been playing well, is good. We need to keep that going on the road."
The Blue Jackets have shown a little more fight recently with interim coach Todd Richards behind the bench, but they’re already playing for next year.
Pick: Oilers
New York Islanders at Washington Capitals (-200, 5.5)
The Washington Capitals have a long way to go yet, but they have won three in a row and seven of their last nine heading into Tuesday’s game against the Islanders.
Goaltender Tomas Vokoun turned aside 43 shots to help the Capitals to a 2-1 win over the Hurricanes in his ninth consecutive start.
“We didn’t have our best game today,” Vokoun told reporters. “I feel like they were a little more hungrier, but saying that, we play good enough and we battle hard we get the two points. That’s the most important part.”
The win pulled Washington into a tie for top spot in the weak Southeast Division, so the Caps are in good shape despite their inconsistent first half.
No value on the home team but we’ll take a shot with the over.
Pick: Over
