Bruins look to keep Canes winless on season

The Bruins look to snap out of an early Stanley Cup hangover when they travel to Raleigh to face the winless Hurricanes on Tuesday night.
Boston has dominated this rivalry, going 10-2 against Carolina over the past three regular seasons, which includes three straight wins at RBC Center. The Canes did, however, get the best of the Bruins in the 2009 postseason—upsetting the top-seeded B’s in a thrilling seven games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas posted ridiculous numbers against the Hurricanes last season (3-1, 1.75 GAA, .943 SV Pct.), including a shutout in January. And despite a 1-0 loss to the Avalanche on Monday, this works to Boston’s advantage, as the Bruins were 5-1 following a shutout loss last season. Both teams should be hungry to get back on the right track, but expect BOSTON to use steady defense and stellar goaltending to pick up the win on the road.

Calder Trophy winner Jeff Skinner wasted no time lighting up the score sheet in his sophomore season, posting one goal and four assists in his first three games. Carolina captain Eric Staal has also chipped in two goals and an assist.
Normally steady goaltender Cam Ward (.923 SV Pct. in 2010-11) is off to a rough start so far, allowing eight goals in his first two starts. The Canes will need Ward to play much better if they have any hopes of competing for a playoff spot this season.
